I'm so sorry people leaving hateful comments. You are such a lovely person, only informing and helping clients who prefer to color their hair at home. I go to stylist- but I remember times when I was a poor student who couldn't effort a professional doing my hair. I would've been so thankful for video content that didn't exist back then. Keep-up the good work ♥♥♥

This is just my opinion - only an opinion but I think stylists' are shortchanging themselves by saying that the quality is just about the actual product...salon vs drugstore...when really going to the salon is about the artist who is applying the color. Also thank you for mentioning things I havent thought of (how to shake the color). So sorry you had hurtful comments on the last video. I really enjoyed this series.

Sorry Craig that you have to endure the nasty trolls that invade the internet like a swarm of creepy nasty bugs. I am a retired hairdresser of over fifty years of experience, but and I am still learning. You are bringing me such joy and fulfilling the time I miss being away from the salon, my co-workers and the wonderful clients. I am immune compromised because of cancer, and since the Covid hit us hard I am still susceptible to what is floating around out there, so I am homebound a lot of the time now. Thank you and stick to what you are doing on KZbin, you are so appreciated by so many. ❤️ from the U.S.

I am an ex hairdresser, a hair cutter mostly 😊 when i hear a colorist say NEVER use Home hair color, i tell them I’ve used both, if done correctly there’s very little difference, it’s still got the same or similar ingredients! I always said it’s a MYTH. No point arguing you get nowhere.😂 There’s also home hair kits, by companies, that will mix the perfect color for you supposedly ? they got it wrong 3 times, i just ended up using the peroxide and conditioner, its always liquid color. My mum used to use nice and easy! Her hair always looked good. I find liquid color, harder control. it drips everywhere! The ones that come in a tube that you mix together with the peroxide are far better, with a bowl and brush. You could always buy 2 colors, of similar shades, and mix a little of one into the other to get a lighter or deeper color. depending on the levels and what you like. I’ve helped many women, get the right one. They see the color on the box and think they’re going to get that!😊 perhaps? Color doesn’t lift color. Unless it’s a lightener one that will lift a couple levels. Ive had some lovely results with box color, especially auburn red shades, as you mentioned use a lighter one first? Even with salon color I’ve used a level 3 -4 and ended up, Darker than I wanted i use Demi permanent. which on me doesn’t fade! It also😢 may be less damaging as it has a lower peroxide. If you’re re- coloring, with the same color apply to the ends last, otherwise you’re overlapping the previous color, possibly damaging your hair, it may turn out too dark! I would like to ask you about shampoos,? Hairdressers say never use Pantene! do you think that’s a MYTH too? some of the really expensive branded ones in the salon, Sometimes aren’t much better than shop ones? I’ve tried several, pretty much the same, besides the cost! I buy Pro color at say TJMaxx TK Max in UK . You can get some great deals! Anyway I don’t want to take over your KZbin😅 As you said nasty comments Are not needed! Some people just like to be nasty. I’ve had them! I cancel them! I just found your you tube thanks!❤

Thank you so much. I choose to colour my hair at home because I have autism and struggle with other people touching my head. I get a wet cut or a dry cut so that my stylist is touching my head for as little time as possible. She doesn’t wash, dry or style my hair - and she is amazing. I even have long hair despite preferring short hair just so as my head is touched less during my haircuts. For people like me (and others with their own wonderfully weird reasons 😉), people like you are doing a MASSIVE service. Those who judge because they don’t understand should just be quietly grateful that they don’t have to understand. There are very many of us who will greatly appreciate your help and advice - those who videos like this are actually FOR. If a video isn’t useful to a person, then that person absolutely does not have to watch it. It really is that simple. Again, thank you - so much ❤

There is a point you made about shampooing after color. I use a loreal extra light blonde hi lift. You leave it on 40 minutes rinse snd apply conditioner. I always thought it was strange not to shampoo the residue out. Sometimes after it would feel almost wet even after i dried it as I didn't get all dye out. Your point is interesting and I will try a mild professional shampoo next time, not too much but enough to emulsify and remove residue b4 condition.

Yes, even though the “base” of most hair colours contain surfactants to aid removal, it’s best to shampoo to make sure it’s all removed and stop the process of oxidation. Glad the video helped, thanks for watching.

for anybody who is thinking to try it: I am a level 3-2 dark brown and use 550 Mahogany in the L'Oréal Casting Cream Gloss demi-permanent colour. It looks like my hair colour, but with a reddish tint, perfect for me as I only use this to cover up the greys and my natural eyebrows look like as if they were black anyways so I do not want to change my hair colour much. It is perfect - I will say though, to me the colouring feels like permanent as no matter how strong of a shampoo I use how many times the colour has never faded back to my original hair colour. but I don't mind, it is okay, not too different from my original hair colour.

Thanks for sharing and watching. Worth adding that if you have a higher % of grey hair the result could be quite vibrant.

Hiya Craig 👋. I only discovered your fabulous channel today and I must say I very quickly warmed to your kind, welcoming & genuine personality . The patient and clear way in which you teach (and not preach) is wonderful & leaves people wanting to learn more from your vast knowledge and experience ❤ . I’m now 60 & like many others , allowed my salt & pepper to grow out during lockdown ( I had blonde toner and highlights for years) . I’m getting a bit fed up of looking aged & feeling drab and have decided to have a go at giving my hair & myself a lift at home. Would you please be a darling and point me towards any links you may have that will help me sift through the many confusing choices of suitable, easy demi box dyes out there for novices like myself ? Many thanks handsome 🙏 xx

Hellooo, Jannie! Goodness me, thank you for your kindness, I appreciate you. So my “shop up” series are quite a new thing on my channel, I don’t have one that recommends specific home colour products…I’m sure it’s only a matter of time. I would say, from my research, is that Natural Instincts is a great “starter” line. That said, perhaps a golden blonde colour conditioner mask would be a great start - I like the Wella one and that way there’s no chemical reaction, so no grow out! I have actually used Casting before and enjoyed that, it’s a very similar formulas to a salon brand. It is more of a demi though, so would most likely give you a regrowth. 👨🏻🙏🏻✨

I would also say, if you're not sure how a colour will come out on your hair, it's soooooo beneficial to do a strand test first, I've learned the hard way lol 😂 so sometimes when I'm unsure it's been so beneficial to me to do a strand test x

I think it would be great for you to talk about pre-coloring in the sense of the ol debate. What is the best state to color your hair? Clean? Dirty? Wait a day? Can you color over brushed through products and how will the pre-color state of your hair affect the color if at all. Thank you!

I recently found your channel and love and appreciate your videos on home hair color. I have been coloring my hair at home for years. My natural color is black and never lightened or bleached and have always used black with an midnight blue or indigo tint. I have always had a great experience IGK Moon Dance. The past year my Gray around my face hair line and middle part are more persistent and harder to color and lasting color. Do you have any recommendations that could help this process? I wash my hair 2-3 times a week and use color care shampoo and conditioner and also use Bleach London Reincarnation Mask. Thank you again and I am looking forward to further content on your channel.

Hello there! Thanks for watching and for your kind words, much appreciated. That sounds like a gorgeous result, really cool. For the grey I would suggest a couple of things - apply to the grey first, then once the rest is on, go back and reapply a little more - saturation is key for coverage. You could also loosely cover the front area with plastic wrap - I do this in salon a lot - this will utilise body heat to aid with coverage. Please let me know how you get on.

Just discovered your amazing channel and your explanations are the easiest to understand. Question...do you recommend using a toner shampoo when going through the rinsing process instead of what the box provides? I'm very new to understanding the differences between coloring and lifting and think I am a natural 5 ...covering some gray at the hairline...with warm tone from not understanding why my hair turned reddish from a blonde ash box lol...I do now. I used a blue shampoo to help lessen the reddish effect and it has helped. Thank you for your channel and have no interest in negative comments...love your energy!!!!!
@theworldofcraig3 ай бұрын
Awww, thanks for watching and for your kindness, glad it’s helpful. Every head of hair is different, so it depends - if the result is very warm I would suggest a toner as the results will be more predictable. 👨🏼🙏🏻✨

Thank you so much! Lovely videos. Please help me understand something …. Why do salons never patch test their products? I always patch test, but when I go to different salons, they just go straight to applying the colour 🤔. Is salon stuff always non-allergenic? 🧐. Thanks again 🩷🩷🩷

Hi Ashley, thank you, that’s very kinds. Oh goodness, they really should, we patch test everyone, even if they are an existing client that hasn’t had colour for over a year. All hair colour brands recommend it.

It is possible to get Amanda seyfried hair color(her natural hair color) on a salon or alone? Everyone says to me they will do it and I end up with shadow roots and high lights 😂 I see that her hair is one solid color throughout the whole head and with no shadow roots at all! I don’t mind if I have to bleach every week to keep it up with the roots and I don’t mind if I have to bleach all of it to then get the color(I suppose this is how should be done right?) I’m asking bc when I tell them this no one wants to do it so I guess I will have to do it myself and I was wondering if u could tell me the best way to do it alone or to what type or hair dresser should I look to get it done? My mom has her exact hair color and I got my dads hair (dark brown) so I always wanted that hair color and they always gave me like a Margot Robbie type of blonde with shadow root and dark pieces instead of a solid global blonde… at least something close to Amanda’s hair would make me happy I know identical is not possible… what I like abt her hair is that is one solid color no shadow roots and no dark lights and the tone of it
@theworldofcraig2 ай бұрын
I think Amanda’s hair is a very light natural base, I can’t be certain but her eyes are very blue - she has a full head tint but it wouldn’t take much “energy” to lift her hair. As you’re naturally darker it would be a MUCH bigger process - I would suggest seeking consultations at salons that you’re recommended to if possible. Good luck!
@sararitchie-brown9881Ай бұрын
If I want a semi permanent I’m using to be more vibrant, and want to bleach it out to an orange ish colour (going for a red end result) would a 10vol be enough to lighten my hair from around a level 3/4 brown, I was a red head naturally but it’s gone darker as I’ve gotten older. Or would I be better off doing a 20vol.
@theworldofcraigАй бұрын
You’d probably need to use 20vol as your hair is already coloured - I would suggest doing a strand test underneath to see how it lifts.

Should you shampoo and condition your hair before dying?
@theworldofcraig4 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t, you’re going to shampoo the colour after rinsing - unless your hair has lots of oil/product in it…and I mean lots. I would never advise to use a conditioner before a colour - generally, they close the cuticle and could stop the colour from penetrating properly. Thanks for watching.
@missjuliawinston4 ай бұрын
