Just a tip I wanted to mention for anyone going gluten-free, Watch out for White Vinegar, it is a common ingredient and normally it is made from wheat. I had to switch it out from quite a few of my recipes, now I like to use apple cider vinegar. 😊

My wife has Celiac Disease so I know how much of a pain it is to eat Gluten Free. I hate it's turned into this Fad diet because the places offering gluten free meals aren't as worried about cross contamination for ppl who actually have Celiac. The only good thing is more company's are offering more gluten free labeled foods that helps us a lot. If you go out to eat and you really want it to be gluten free.. tell the pace you are eating at it's for allergy reasons not diet preference. They take these a little more serious in most cases.
@AshleysConsciousLife8 жыл бұрын
+ISEE YOU I like to do that too, say it's an allergy, they get that much better! ( :
@Tish-996 жыл бұрын
ISEE YOU not really a fad gluten causes an unfavorable inflammatory response in everyone just more severe in celiac. Any foods causing an inflammatory response in your gut should be minimized. Even if you do ingest gluten it shouldn’t be frequently as we do on an American diet.
@Esther-sf1vc3 жыл бұрын
yeah it's astonishing that some restaurants don't take celiac disease seriously, which is also why I've told people it's an allergy cause somehow they do take that seriously

I'm starting a gluten free diet because I've got a hunch that I'm intolerant to it - I get super fatigued after meals, and have some skin and stomach issues as well. I'm super excited to get started, and just wanted to thank you for this video. It's real, practical advice, and I love that you suggested 'normal' foods like pizza and crackers that I can't see myself - or many other people - ever wanting to live without. Really approachable and makes the change seem a lot easier. Thank you, Ashley. :)

It is rather difficult to try and get people to realise that you can not eat all that gluten rubbish. Along with the expense of buying things that are gluten free. Though as you rightly state, it can be cheaper to bake some things at home. I enjoy buying the odd packet of biscuits as a treat. Having to have an already restrictive diet due to health problems, does not help when you have to go gluten free. I never look at it as what can not eat, but at all the lovely things I can eat. Lovely fruit and vegetables are naturally gluten free. You become an expert at reading food labels very quickly. Glad to hear that you husband has the sense to put butter and other spreads on his plate, to avoid contaminating the butter. My parents still do not understand the dangers, of contamination and my mother of all people does not believe the seriousness of the condition. Coming from a medical back ground she should be the one that understands and enforces the issue with food safety. The grand kids have more sense, I do love how understanding my wee nephew and niece are. My best friend is more understanding and supportive, she is a wee Angel.

I have celiac disease and have had it for almost 5 years. I cannot do corn...it is a grain and it is high in prolamines...the higher the prolamines, the greater the chance for a reaction. Rice is low in Prolamines, so I don't have a problem with rice. Also, with celiac disease, gluten can be in your hair color, shampoo, body wash, make up, tooth paste and vitamins...so please check your labels or go to gluten free websites and see which ones are safe to use.

I was tested for Celiac and didn't have it, but I'm increasingly certain I nonetheless have a sensitivity to gluten of some kind. I don't get drastically horrible symptoms and I think that's why I've ignored it fairly easily for so long. It's hard to put it into words, but when I'm paying attention, I can almost feel the difference in how my body reacts. It's not the same feeling as consuming High Fructose Corn Syrup, but it's the same type of awareness, where I can notice my body reacting negatively. I think for me, the symptoms are fairly mild... what you'd expect from a mild allergy. Sinus issues and the like. I used to wonder about going gluten-free and thought of it as some kind of health craze, but I think the reality is, a lot of people have food sensitivities due to how foods are being made. And since I can't control what the food manufacturers are doing, I can at least try to control my diet. I shouldn't feel worse after eating, unless I've way over-eaten... but there are way too many times when I do.
@AshleysConsciousLife7 жыл бұрын
I can relate a lot to what you are saying, not only in my body's reaction to gluten but other foods as well. For example I feel sensitive to straight sugar. It's been years since I cut it out of my diet and now only have things like stevia or Lakanto a monk fruit extract, and so when I do eat something even with a slight bit of cane sugar or something similar I instantly feel a headache coming on and really tired. When I feel these things with certain foods I write them on a "do no eat" list and try to stick to it. People think I'm crazy since some of the things on there aren't true allergies, but if it doesn't feel good in my body, why keep eating it? ( :
@addyrovirosa18006 жыл бұрын
I haven't been tested for it, but I feel like I have an intolerance towards gluten, dairy, high acid foods like oranges, tomatoes, and also to sugar. I went only 3 days without all that and the next day I tried those foods and I felt bloated, sick, and full of toxic-like acid. So I'll be taking those off my diet.

Great video! My husband was diagnosed with celiac disease about 3 years ago, so I know how daunting it is to make that change. Those with celiac disease also need to check labels to make sure the produce was not processed on machinery that also processes wheat so that makes it even harder. I accidentally glutened my husband with mustard one time - because mustard seeds are often processed on the same machinery was wheat. Ugh. Koops is a good gluten free brand, and I'm sure there are others. Anyway, I think it's great you posted this very thorough video and I'm sure it will be very helpful to anyone who wants or needs to make this change! :D

Thanks so much for this video. I can't have the oats either and, do like the quinoa flakes but find them pricey. Still I find plenty. My gluten problems finally showed up as a terrible skin problem called herpetiformis dermatitis. It I have been off gluten so long now that, in order to be tested, I'd have to load up on gluten and that would be too painful. The belly cramps I've experienced over all my adult life isn't worth it. I know I am better without it and that's good enough for me. I enjoy mostly a whole plant based food plan so the snack foods are only an occasional indulgence. Right now I am suffering from some weight gain from indulging in snacky foods so, I try to stick with whole foods in (mostly) close to their original state. Yum! Don't need no crazy gluten!

hi. i wanna try try being gluten free, it isnt easy since because of my work intravel and stay in hotels and eat in restaurants. What aboit products i see in the supermaerket such pasya, cokees, crakers whic says are glutten; are they trully glutten free? Not easy to eat out or even snacks out when being glutten free. I appreciate your insight. i live alone so i dont bake or so any crazy cooking.

Doc put me on a gluten free diet for sensitivity, been on it for several weeks, and I’ve seen very little difference :( I’m hoping I’m not gluten sensitive

Another thing that is safe to have is glucose syrup, even though it states is has wheat, it is only the sugar of the wheat and not actually the grain.

Love your videos, always super helpful and informative, and this one is no exception! Note to myself, to try the Braggs Liquid Aminos, I use tamari, but that is a bit more sour than salty.. Thanks for all the good work and please keep it up :) xo

Excellent video on living gluten free! ♡♡♡I heard cauliflower pizza crusts are delicious, but have not tried them yet. How much do you spend monthly on groceries? For my spouse and I, we spend $400 a month.
@AshleysConsciousLife6 жыл бұрын
Thanks~ Trader Joe's has a good cauliflower crust I like. My monthly grocery bill is probably about 2-3x that since I have kids and we only eat out once a month.

Can u explain me more about (TEFF; and Sorghum ) and I want to thank u for answering zis fast .
@AshleysConsciousLife7 жыл бұрын
I personally haven't cooked with teff, but I do have sorghum flour, some gluten-free recipes call for it. So the only way I've used those two would be in flour form.

I wish I had had this vídeo three years ago when I was diagnosed with celiac, I didn't know how to start and did all wrong for a year.I am also lactose and coffee intolerant and I am considering going vegetarian. The thing is that I am afraid of so many restrictions in the diet.
