I Iive in a rural area of North Carolina where we have Red Clay Soil. I looked up the price of Red Clay and found it to be $15.11 a pound. However I have seen the local families grow all types of Salad Greens for decades but never knew that mustard greens or any salad green could be grown without soil. I have mustards, collards, and kale growing in Red Clay. I am ordering more seeds as we speak and grow them in trays without soil. Thank You Very Much. and... Stay Safe from COVID 19.

Hi, thanks for the vid.. i appreciate you put the other link in your description.. more quickly to get to them.. another point i like is you said what taste the sprout as.. because some are more interesting then other.. and how to know at first to find what seed to buy ? so i will defenitely sprout Mustard for sure...As for the soil method, i saw another video where the person put a paper towel over the seeds, first it help to keep moisture.. but it also keep the harvest "cleaner" as we cut.. no soil get in the sprout... else then that.. great info.. @TFGFilmandTape

There are several things you can do to prevent or reduce mold and this goes for any smallish seed. First, grow hydrologically without using soil. Use a product like Biostrate, which is a natural hemp-based material made for growing microgreens. Using bleached paper towels is never a good idea due to the chemicals used in the manufacture and bleaching. Second, use 10x20 trays that have no holes but do have the raised tracks on the bottom of the tray. This allows water to flow back and forth under the hemp pads. Third, water from the bottom only. Watering from the top induces mold growth because the moisture gets trapped inside the greens and stays there. Water from each end of the tray, rock the tray back and forth slowly, then pour off the excess water. Only water once per day unless the pads feel dry. Fourth, always spray your cleaned trays with hydrogen-peroxide (purchased from the drug store in 3% solution) before reusing and spray liberally on any patches of mold that develop. It will kill it instantly and is safe for humans to ingest. Finally, mold grows on the top, not the bottom. Those white cotton-looking patches at base are part of the plant, they are not mold.

hi Khang. I've watched nearly all of your videos on sprouting and love your detailed easy methods. :-) I'm having trouble with my arugula seeds sticking together and making a "blanket" which prevents sprouting. Had to throw trays away. Maybe overwatering? (no holes) Question. Are there any seeds that you soak? I don't recall seeing you soak any seeds for sprouting. All my seed bags have directions for soaking except for the really tiny ones. Is it necessary? Sure is easier to spread dry seeds. Thanks again - Robin

Thank you for the speedy response. I had purchased a bag of "sprouting lentils" and then wondered if the bag of "dried lentils' I purchased to cook would sprout too. What would be the negatives of just using the dried ones?
@KhangStarr

The negatives to using the dried ones is that you may not know how long they have been on the shelves. Older seeds do not have good germination as the ones made for sprouting.

where are you at as far as geography? the reason I'm asking is I am near Seattle Washington USA. and they say that most things in are Asian and Indian stores have been irradiated or irritated however you say it. So that would stop them from sprouting. And asking the people there if they're raw wouldn't help any because they don't know. So I'm wondering where you live because the laws would be the same for you if you're not living and India or your Indian store is most things that come overseas have had this done to it from what I've been told by all of these videos so I'm just curious on what your take is on that. Very interested in your opinion! Thank you

(i put the more as i can arugula seeds until there no space in the container) (sorry for my bad english btw it isnt my native lang)
@KhangStarr
@KhangStarr 9 жыл бұрын
ysir ir Yes, those arugula at 1:30 is about a month old. When you grow them like that, they require alot of lights. Also, you'll need to give them some organic fertilizer. In a small container like that, nutrients will be depleted very quickly. So the trick is, less seeds, lots of lights, and feed them organic fertilizer for vegetables.
