First caller: could you create upsells or add ons? Create a even more luxury product. Maybe an extra 25 bucks to schedule a exact time? Free to schedule on a day but if you want a specific hour than you upcharge? Or maybe organic long-lasting smell things you set in the car? Reload all fluids in the car? What can you get more money for?

Yes, it's not just a recycling of the baby steps every episode of "get out of debt and invest the rest".

Completely different audience for the most part though. It’s not for personal finance questions and issues.

I wouldn’t mess with the 3 man crew- they are doing 6 cars a day- the owner is only doing 1-2 a week- he needs to bump up his $1,000 detail to 2-4 a week. Right now- his 3 man crew is making more money a day than he is on a $1,000 detail all week!

That's what I was thinking. Thinking maybe he needs to take one from the crew since he's wanting to get rid of one anyway. So if you took one from the crew and brought it to the shop to help him get the high ticket price stuff done quicker. Or completely start another crew with one of the guys from the beginning crew to start a second set. But I understand why it's taking him so long on those thousand-dollar cars. My daughter was doing detailing and it would take forever cuz you have to buff everything out before you can do anything. Then you got a sand everything it's a pain she said. It takes forever. So maybe a week is about approximately how long it's supposed to take. But if he brought one of the guys from the crew they can do double team on $1,000 cars. You will still have to wait for stuff to dry and everything else but it might only take 3 to 4 days instead of a week.

The 1st guy needs to be the 1st call emergency detailer at the local auto dealerships...live edit: why be kind to tio creepy? Send him packing to America. Rent, health insurance & food is free here for certain folks.

Jayden we have found that a 1-2 man crew is optimal for smaller jobs like you’re describing for your crew. Beyond that efficiency really goes down unless its a large job. We always shoot for our team to earn 32% of revenue on the labor portion charged. Also, look into a Pay for Performance pay model for your laborers. Hope this helps.

I'm loving this podcast. There is a drastic lack of moral and just leadership in business that cares about its business and its employees, and this podcast is a lighthouse in the storm. Thank you.

I would recommend changing the pay structure of his guys to a per car pay so that they are incentivized to finish every car quickly and it fixes your labor cost per car. Add the caveat that if there are quality issues with the customer, they have to go back to the car and fix it without any additional pay. This would align everyone’s best interests.

Does anyone else feel like all the callers on this show gross way too much? It makes me wonder what their actual net takehome is....seeing that the median small business net is about $50k

40 plus percent margins someone needs to tell him he's doing fine and needs to employ more labor.

Could he bring that extra guy to the shop to help him get his big ticket items done quicker? Or start another crew? Take one from the old crew and add two more people. I know you're going to increase the amount that you have to pay your people but your getting more cars out. Okay so these guys are only doing two cars a piece. So if they get rid of the third person they're going to be down to four cars a day. You can't force and push your people like that to do more than two apiece! Please don't become one of those employers that expects you to live at work and get paid jack! Two is great for each person I would expand by adding another team. Don't expect these people to say enough when they're told they need to do another car. They're making more of the money than you are in the shop. They might end up saying forget it and they start their own business because they feel shaded and to doing more work but not getting paid enough.

Dave, I'm curious if you agree with Mr. Wonderful, I think you should have him on your show because his view is that you have to be ruthless in business against the competition or you won't get to where you are at in certain industries with lower margins. The business you have is more or less a high margin business being real estate & finance, so I'm curious how the principles differ in other types of industries. Might somebody have to take on more debt to compete even at the larger scale?

Mr wonderful is just another reason this country has more mental health problems than not. Guys like him are worse than politicians, guys like him are the ones pulling the stings on the politicians. But if you hate your community... money!
