the hand and arms Lead the epaulement movement. There is a sense of proportion and subtlety to the arms. This creates the emotional impact and context for the movement. Great video! You are such a great resource Isabella!

This video is so helpful! It would nice to have a series of how-tos for small details that give the trained appearance. so far, my list are: - how to hold arms on the barre - how to nicely step in fifth position - during stretching on the barre, how to place legs on and off the barre elegantly

Hi Isabella, thank you so much. If possible tell us how to use the arms when you turn to other side on the barre within an exercise.

Was in classes for a while, with contemporary dancers who were required to take ballet. Their upper body, shoulder and arm movements were exactly as you showed as incorrect. Wide, twisting, flowery upper-body, arm and shoulder movements. You could tell as soon as they started plies that they were modern/contemporary dancers -- no corrections in a drop-in class, of course, unfortunately.

yes that's the sad thing about most drop in classes - no corrections. I try to do the opposite and go intro great detail with my drop in students. something I pride myself in. I feel it's my duty.

Thank you for this, I do have a question: I have a tendency to when in arabesque , if I focus on keeping my back up and arm back - I feel like I forget to pull in my stomach. If I think of pulling in my stomach, I forget my back and arm. Is it something probably corrected through practice? I have done some back exercises and feel like I have gotten better at paying attention to it. However, I still feel like I am either kind of leaning forward too much or not lifting my leg high enough in the back because I am more worried about my arm. Thanks! :)

Ooh I was really hoping you would discuss the arm in seconde. (Working arm) I’m often corrected on this arm. :( Helpful though! Thank you!
