@EclipseSeth2 жыл бұрын
They think we learn to speak through their genes. This almost happened to me, but in my case my mom didn't want me to learn Polish since she thought it was shameful and useless for me to know it. Luckily we went to Poland when I was six years old for half a year and I learnt some. My grandma worked really hard for me to understand the language and everyone spoke really slow and clear around me, so sometimes I would say Polish in the most polite way to talk. People kept praising how beautiful I talked it.

Racism pure and simple sometimes. They don't want their children ridiculed and targeted for being any more different than they already are. It's a preventative measure to assimilate and not be othered in more ways than necessary. Unfortunate circumstance of some immigrant parents doing their best so their kids don't suffer the way they did. I get it, but I think it's even more unfortunate when people lose out on their cultures as part of it. It's a shitty situation all the way around and I blame the racists for making such an environment in the first place rather than the parents who chose a way and hoped for the best.
