Just for reference...at 5:00 , Cole is still speaking (and referencing his setup) to a high-pressure fuel pump vs a low pressure or standard OE mechanical pump. That glass filter/regulator will not damage anything on a stock car with standard engine, or higher compression engine with a fuel pump below 10psi (I dont have my glass filter/reg manual in front of me). Mines been running at 3psi now for over 2 years and really solid piece of kit.

Thanks for adding this its a great point. Listening back I wasnt super clear about that. The reason that regulator does not work for my setup is solely due to my high pressure pump in the SPI tank.

In carb setups, fuel does not get into engine via pressure coming from any pump. It is drawn into the carb throat only by the vacuum produced at air is sucked into engine by the pistons on intake stroke. Fuel pump pressure is used only to deliver fuel to the carb's float bowl, and is only needed where the tank's fuel pick point sits below the carb float bowl height, since gravity alone cannot get fuel to the bowl. Assuming the float bowl 's fuel level shut off valve is in good condition and is able to prevent bowl from over filling, then pressure on the pump side of the fuel supply is not going to reach the carb jet system. if it did, the engine would quickly flood with fuel. The only benefit I can see for having a pressure regulator to to better control a poorly operating pump from putting excess pressure to the bowl.

Hi, why not run the FPR after the carb's fuel inlet? And use the return line to return excessed fuel? This can also benefited by taking extra heat out of engine

The last regulator you showed (red) cab be fitting on a large SU without return to tank?
@ah1472-u5h2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this. Around the 5 minute mark you warn against simply putting a deadhead type regulator between the pump and carb, suggesting that it would likely burn out your pump. Did you mean that for any pump type or just the higher volume ones meant for bypass systems? I have an 850 Mini with the original HS2 carb. My pump puts out 4.5 psi and I have been having trouble for years keeping my float chamber valves from leaking. I was thinking of adding a Filter King like yours just after my existing pump, after hearing your caution, I am not so sure. Please advise! (Nevermind - I just saw the comment from theblue0at0 and your reply which addresses my confusion!)

Curious if by having the regulator close to the fuel tank and only running a feed line to the carb, you essentially are running a dead head system. Yes the pump doesn’t have to work as hard but what about the fuel sitting in the engine bay for extended amounts of time. From my limited understanding, there’s a risk of the fuel boiling and causing vapor lock. I call on you experts to clarify.

Hi , great video, thanks !! question, can i go from 60 psi to 3 psi with this aeromotive pressure regulator ?
@classicminidiy Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks! So technically you could but by doing that you are putting a ton of strain on the high pressure pump even if it has a return. It would be better to buy a low pressure fuel pump if you only need 3psi.

It’s just a simple fuel safe PTFE tape. Like plumbers tape. If you get some just make sure it’s fuel safe.

Friend of mine is about to set an Weber on his MK1 mini (which I found pointless) here in Japan is quite popular to fitting webers in minis , but is it alright for an so small capacity 848cc!???
@classicminidiy3 жыл бұрын
Hey Diego! Weber's can be awesome upgrades for the larger displacement A-Series engines when done properly, however a Weber (assuming DCOE40 or 45) on an 850 will never run correctly. It's way way too much carb for the small engine and it will likely be underivable. It's a much better idea to focus on getting a larger engine or tuning the single HS2 dialed in perfectly.

I'm sorry to say here that there is absolutely no need of any pressure regulator on Minis with SU type carbs, as the bowl of the carb itself it there to do the job.
@classicminidiy4 жыл бұрын
I disagree. As people replace their mechanical or electric pumps with units pumper greater than 3psi if you don’t regulate the fuel prior to it arriving at the bowl it’s going to blow out the float bowl seals or you’re going to have flooding problems. Every mini with an SU carb can benefit from a properly regulated pump like the simple filter king style pump. I agree not everyone needs a bypass style pump though. In the majority of applications that’s going to be overkill.
@martinfidel70863 жыл бұрын
so a turbo mini doesn't need a regulator ?
