Jeff for siding penetrations for a cleaner look, use an exterior mounting block that matches your siding color, it eliminates the risk of leaks where you were shown caulking also stops relying on caulk to stop water intrusion, it mimics the blocks that they use on lap siding (without scribing) your siding butts up against it for a clean install. If I remember correctly, Electrical code requires all boxes to be secured.

As someone who has also recently bought a home, you probably don't understand the least of what you will be doing. I took two weeks off of work to replace the kitchen and bathroom cabinets and It has now been over a month of working and I still have not replaced the kitchen or bathroom cabinets. I have found everything from illegal wiring to massive damage to the insulation from rodents to old termite damage (without any live/active termites, luckily!) undocumented renovations (moving walls, etc.) done mostly wrong, structure cut out completely to run plumbing, hidden asbestos tile that only becomes visible once you start removing tiles, where you can no longer decide to just leave it alone.... I am about $20k in and have only just started working on adding in the cabinets to the kitchen. Cheap counter tops, sink, faucet, garbage disposal, etc are probably going to cost an additional $1k and I still have to do the bathrooms. Luckily I have a lot of time before I have to move out of my current rental!

Plastic flexi vent ducting. Don’t see how that’s code for grease here in USA. All installs I see are sheetmetal ducts and elbows. Maybe Canadia is more lenient because their houses don’t burn.

@@muzaaaaak I think the duct was provided by the manufacturer Zline which is USA made so it must have pass UL. Not all plastics are the same. I'd like to share my valuable experience. My hood came with some really nice metal screw-in type anchors. These normally work very well for me on a variety of applications, but when I got to the part where you install the cover above the hood they pulled right out of the wall, and down came the hood. My advice is to take any plastic or metal drywall anchors and throw them in the trash. Make a bigger hole and use some nice toggle bolts to save yourself some grief. Better still, for a real permanent, quality job, pick out your hood, measure it out on the wall, cut the wall open, and install a 2X4 across where the hood mounting screws go.
@danielconnolly63674 жыл бұрын
I am dealing with this now. I used the supplied anchors with my hood fan. Yep... was just about to mention ask about that as well. Here in the US, you have to use the galvanized steel duct work for those. It wont be an issue the first 2 years of use, but when the piping gets coated with grease, it will burn if fire goes thrue the fan, can you make a video about this? A lot of comments to see if someone already asked, but I'm looking to replace an undercabinet microwave that just filters and blow back into the kitchen. The stove is on an inside wall so there is no ducting. Good thing is the kitchen is on the 2nd floor and a crawl space attic right above. I want to replace it with an under cabinet range hood, but not sure the best way to install the venting? Straight up through the cabinet into the attic, right angle to the soffit? Or just straight up and drill through the roof? I know less angles are better, but I worry about drilling into the roof and creating a bigger problem. Also going into the wall is better to not take up the cabinet space above, but more angles, and seems like it would be tricky so manuver the ducting through the wall and limits space I would think. Is a video on what to do when installing a range hood on an inside wall a possibility?

Also, it's a good microwave, so thinking of mounting it on an open space on the wall in the kitchen since it is still needed, is there a way to make that look nice? Of course right now it's mounted to the typical bracket and held up by screws under the cabinet.

QUESTION: is it compliant to have the device plugged into a receptacle that is behind the vent decorative chimney? It is “accessible” by removing the two set screws I see. I am probably not alone installing one of these trendy wall mount style in an otherwise “as-built” kitchen by removing a crappy old recirculating vent hood and the 12” tall bitty wall cabinet above and replacing with one of these beaut’s. The receptacle (formerly in the cabinet and accessible by just opening the cabinet) will be…idk…sketchy now?

Why not use a 6' hole saw for a clean fast and professional cut??

I think that's the same hood I have. IIRC I paid 35 dollars for it. It was damaged in shipping but it still works. I can't say I approve of the exhaust flange on the vinyl siding or lose junction box... With a gas range/exhaust, furnace, hot water tank, bath fan etc it's important to make sure carbon monoxide isn't getting pulled back in.

still not sure where the problem is!

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY there is nothing wrong Jeff. Also, $35? what are you talking about those are $350 and up.
@Foche_T._Schitt4 жыл бұрын
@@DietBajaBlast "It was damaged" As in i purchased a damaged range hood. Also you shouldn't be relying on gobs of rtv to shed water. There are vinyl flanges specifically for vinyl siding.

Sir, Great video. What's the name of the flexible duct? where can I buy it?

I gave you a thumbs up, but the electrical is a little hanky. Option for a permanent connection to the hood? Some codes do require a plug but I think it needs to be accessible. What are the details in your region? In my town we wouldn’t be able to use plastic venting tubing. On the outside why not put in a piece of square mounting material - cut the outside a bigger square, mount a rectangular mount with a 6 inch hole, then mount the hood/damper on a flat surface and have a much nicer caulked finish look.

you didn't say how do you determine the height from the stove? looks like 8ft ceilings, so do you just install from the top? the height from the stove doesn't matter?

Thanks in advance

Would you just vent through the roof, for an interior walled fan? I really don’t believe mine is even vented. I see what looks like a vent at the soffit. Doesn’t make much sense. But I need to vent both bathrooms as well. Seems wild to have basically three vent hoods in close proximity on the back of my roof. Mine has the filters where the fan is. So it is designed to filter the air back into the kitchen?
