Bought a couple hundred of these for my roof this year. I have done the ridges for years with the "cold day" scraper and couple of taps to separate the roofing shingles. This was typically a two-three day process. As I got older I have been dis-inclined more and more to do this. With these clips 3-4 hours max. I am cutting and adjusting my lines this year. I have been slowly converting my existing strings to LED. About half way there at this point. Love these clips.
@TheLawnCareNut Жыл бұрын
That's cool that you can keep the same strings and just change out the bulbs. Another advantage to the commercial strings.

Big investment up front. But the LED’s will payoff in electricity savings in no time! Great work and explanations. Thanks

After getting a couple crazy quotes from pros last year, I decided to DIY my house lights this year. The main challenge has been the fact that I have a metal roof. I got magnetic clips which work amazingly well but I don't know how to get up to the ridgeline without damaging the roof. Maybe you can address this in a video? It would be very helpful. Appreciate you, Alyn. Your lawn videos have really helped me turn my fixer-upper into a beautiful house I am proud of.
@TheLawnCareNut11 ай бұрын
That's awesome that you are doing your own Rachel! As far as walking to the ridge/peak - there must be trusses below so you can walk on the ribs all the way up. I'm no expert with metal roofs but i know people do have to go on them for maintenance and they balance on the ribs.

Another solution for the power on/off is Kasa Smart Plugs by TP Link. They have indoor outdoor ones. We use them for all of our Christmas lights and some of them even monitor energy consumption. You can schedule them with a timer, have them turn on/off sunset/sunrise. No "bridge" needed, they connect direct to WiFi and controller with their app on a smart phone.

Actually in the middle of doing this myself. Just a correction to your video though. The reason the store bought ones are dimmer is because of the wattage/lumen output of each bulb. Your bulbs are 21.7 lumens and 1w each bulb. Cant find lumen rating on most big box options. But most sre 5w for an entire string of 50 lights. So like 0.1w per bulb? If you buy 1w strawberry (its what the checkered bulb type is called) c9's theyd be just as bright as your smooth ones.
@TheLawnCareNut Жыл бұрын
Thanks for this info! I'm learning as much as I can about the technical side. Been very interesting to study. You've given me some new keywords to research and understand. Thank you!

ring is pricey, why not using smart plugs which is a way cheaper alternative? Use smart plugs that are Homekit (siri, ios )compatible so you can turn those lights on a schedule. if not, most regular smart plugs are google assistant and alexa compatible and 99 percent of the time come with their own brand app also that allow to make schedule to turn on/off, which avoid also to buy an extra hub.. All my lights indoor/outdoor are on a smart plug, so you can group them too if you want indoor/outdoor to be in synch. 4 smart plugs run for $20-30 max
