There are now hundreds of videos on this topic but none of them show the one thing I need: That very first skip, how to "start" the rope. I'm trying to understand how you can feel precisely when to hop as the rope comes around. Not a single video shows this. If I can just get that first skip, I can develop the rhythm. I'm too early or too late.

At 3:22 you can see the first rotation requires you just kind of fling it over your head. The close up slo-mo in the upper left shows that you can initiate your jump as the rope is passing your waistline so that when the rope hits the ground you are up just high enough to clear it as it passes under you. It can take a few rotations to get into a rhythm after that first fling over you head to start. Another option to start the rope is to get the rope moving with a few side swings and then open yours hands up into your first jump. This helps get some momentum going and get a feel for the rope before you take that first jump.

Hope that helps a bit🤞

@@jennikajumps373 Yes, that actually helps a lot. I've been initiating the jump late, when I hear the rope slap the ground in front of me. I'll try jumping when the rope is passing my waist.

This is like one of those Total Gym trainer's videos where it seems they just set their phone down and hit record before walking 25 feet away so the audio quality and volume is non-existant. I guess selling jump ropes for $120 doesn't leave room in the budget for a $15 bluetooth microphone or a free app for post-processing?
