So how do you check at the pc board if there is a call for heat? Set your meter to volts AC. Put 1 meter lead on the W1 terminal. Put other meter lead on the R terminal. If your meter reads 24 to 27 or so volts, the thermostat does not have a call for heat. If your meter reads 0 volts, then the thermostat has a call for heat. Is this correct? If not, please correct my error(s). Thanks in advance.

@WordofAdviceTV5 жыл бұрын
The easiest way to check that is to just pull the thermostat off the wall. If your furnace runs even with the thermostat off it's base, then it's a bad control board. If it turns off, then the thermostat is bad. But when you say the furnace continues to run, is it just the blower motor running or are the burners on as well? Maybe your thermostat fan setting is just set to ON instead of AUTO

hi my system is completly empty i will add 410a to suction line a little at a time what i want to know is unit running while im adding freon thank you jim
@WordofAdviceTV6 жыл бұрын
Do you have a scale? I would weigh in the factory charge with the unit turned off first. That way you can open up the low and high side on the gauges and let it fill up, wait for a while to let it equalize, and turn it on and add a bit more if needed. If the unit is completely empty, it will likely leak back out pretty quick though. That being said, let me answer your actual question now :) Yeah, you would add it through the suction side and the tank would be upside down since 410a has to be charged in liquid only if you are charging while the unit is running. And yes, a little at a time. The rule of thumb is that you cannot go over 10-15psi from the starting point otherwise you could slug the compressor. Hope that helps!

thank you for your time and advice i really appreciate it i have a scale and will do as you say again thank you jim

hi if i add 410a with system off i do not have to turn tank upside down is that correct using scale
@WordofAdviceTV6 жыл бұрын
I would still flip the tank upside down. R410a is a blended refrigerant which means it is a mix of a few refrigerants. So it should always go in as a liquid. If it goes in as a vapor, then the refrigerant mixture can be unbalanced which could cause problems.

@WordofAdviceTV6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joey! Sorry to hear about your problem. Do you have a multi meter with leads that you can check voltage with? That would help quite a bit. 1. Did you have that error code before you replaced the ignitor? 2. Are you sure you replaced the ignitor with the right replacement? They can vary in the amount voltage they are designed for. 3. Have you double checked and made sure the ignitor and flame sensor are not touching anything? Like the burners. 3. Does your furnace do anything at all when you turn on the heat? Does the inducer motor come on and can you hear the gas valve open for a few seconds? 4. If you have a meter, check if your ignitor is getting voltage by sticking both leads in on the back side of the plug. If your ignitor is getting 120v (usually it's 120v) but it is not glowing, then your ignitor is bad. 5. If you are not getting 120v going to the ignitor, then I would suspect the control board. Hope that helps man! Good luck!
@joeyjavier90106 жыл бұрын
@@WordofAdviceTV I checked the voltage of the ignitor and I'm getting only 105 volts then when the gas valve opened the voltage drops down to 25 volts.
@WordofAdviceTV6 жыл бұрын
Even with 105 volts, the igniter would start to glow. Have you tried checking the resistance/ohms of the new ignitor? It sounds like the new one could be bad. The voltage drop after the gas valve opens is normal operation though. The ignitor turns off after the burners light. If you have a long shaft lighter, you can stick it under the burner face where the ignitor is and when the gas valve opens, it will light the burners "manually". If you need to just heat up the house you can do that temporarily. (do it carefully of course)

Also, can I take the questionable tstat that is in my hand (not on the wall) to test it on the furnace board (sort of like a jumper wire), and set tstat to call for heat, and use wires from R on tstat, to R on furnace board, and wire from W on tsat to W on furnace board - to test to see if the tstat is working?

@@juancervantes8932 R to C. So the control board is not blinking any error codes? Yes, you can check most of the safety switches with continuity. But the pressure switch is actually a normally open switch. If it has continuity that means its stuck in a closed position and that would prevent the furnace from starting. If thats the case, watch my pressure switch videos for more on that. Now if all the switches seem to be okay and there's no LED error code blinking when thermostat is set to heat.. I would jumper R to W at the control board and if nothing starts, its likely that the control board is bad.

Word of Advice TV No problem thanks for your video. Minnesota wow, you sound like you have such a strong accent. My wife is Albanian and her brother sounds like you, LOL

I have something very odd happening. My Honeywell (battery powered) has C, R, W, G and Y. When Honeywell turns on A/C it seems to engage Y and G, and compressor kicks in. But if I try to achieve the same using hot wiring, I cannot get the compressor to engage. Trying to solve this first, because I am trying to switch thermostats and it isn’t turning on A/C, and I figure if I can’t even hotwire it, I should solve that first. But the Honeywell works!! It’s driving me nuts. Any tips are appreciated!

Can you jump these components live?
@WordofAdviceTV3 ай бұрын
Yes, as long as you don't jump anything to common (C) which would be a direct short.

Neither works for me the thermostat turns on the blower fan but doesn't turn on the AC I jumped the Y and R but it still don't turn on but when I push in the contactor it turns on and I don't think it's a circuit board cuz I pulled out the batteries from the thermostat and it's still stays on cuz it's connected to the common so why doesn't the cool go on and engage??

great video man been watching ur stuff for awhile now, hey I got a question on a friends furnace, it has a basic thermostat but it only kicks on the furnace almost around full blast but nothing lower been like that for while I guess, also same furnace the ladies blower motor has been replaced twice by another plumber, im just wondering if you had any ideas?im just 4 th year plumber and thought id ask you LOL still kinda learning by the way your videos helped my a lot on my studying man keep up the good work

I’ve been watching all of your videos trying to figure out my HVAC problem. I tried using a jumper from R to W to get my heat to run and it won’t turn on. Actually, the jumper didn’t turn on anything. Not the fan, not the AC and not the heat. When I used the meter I have 24 volts when I connect R-G, R-Y but nothing for R-W. Is my control board bad?
@MrDsqrd2222 жыл бұрын
You have 0 volts at RW because the tstat is working and there’s a call for heat. Your problem is elsewhere.
@timbrown93056 жыл бұрын
Your first comment about testing fan at furnace means you thermostat is bad... could also be your wiring and not the stat. I get calls on many rentals where the owner ran a wire in a very bad way. Furnace quits but isn't the thermostat. Is your hot water relief valve piped to within 6 inches of floor?
@WordofAdviceTV6 жыл бұрын
It's about 8 inches from the floor

it's not the voltage that kills, it's the Amps. Takes as little as 1/2 of an Amp across your heart to kill you. like if you have one hand on the grounded sheet metal and you touch a live wire with the other hand. Consider this, a static shock like taking a sweater off is probably around 2,000 volts, fortunately only in the pico Amp range. so half a volt at 1 amp could be potentially lethal. Good video

I’m thinking of wiring a smart relay in parallel with my thermostat to turn on and off my blower when a temperature difference between two areas is detected. Can someone tell me why I shouldn’t do this? (Anything I’m not thinking of?)

Why would the fan come on if you only jumped the red (power) wire and the yellow (compressor) wire and you didn't also jump the red (power) wire to the green (fan) wire?? It would seem to me that in your example, your outside AC compressor would come on, but your inside fan motor would not come on because it was not jumped.

Can you bypass if the board is bad?
@WordofAdviceTV6 жыл бұрын
Well it depends on what your board is doing. Sometimes bypassing it will not work. Do you know where you are losing your voltage?
@mauivang72836 жыл бұрын
Word of Advice TV I bypass and it works for furnace

So your saying that in an emergency situation and your thermostat is not working properly and you don't have any way to get another one you can just twist three wires together to turn it on
