Alyssa, you've given me a really great styling idea! I'm lucky to have been gifted a handful of amazing pearl necklaces that I used to wear a lot in my younger years, when one of my goals for creating an outfit was to look more mature and "seasoned" at work. But now that I'm unequivocally, undeniably, indisputably...ahem, "experienced"--and in no need to prove that I have an abundance of skills and wisdom to bank on--I feel my pearls make me look [sigh!] matronly. I haven't been wearing them much because of that. But, I saw the way you paired your pearl string with the gold pendant necklace and shorter, layered pieces and ran to my jewelry cabinet to pull similar things. I tried them together and loved them! Now I can wear my beloved pearls again without feeling I look like Queen Elizabeth (whom I respect, but do not wish to use as my fashion icon...someday, perhaps, if I'm lucky to live as long...but I'm not there quite yet!) I'm building tomorrow's work outfit around these necklaces. Molte grazie!

Congratulations on launching your necklace!! It is a credit to you. I am fine-boned and found that I suit small pieces and only a select few - earrings, watch and ring. Necklace is usually the one thing I take off (following the advice of Coco Chanel). I have noticed over the years that whenever I branch out with any of my jewellery, that is when the compliments disappear and I get weird looks from people. True story. So I have a very small selection of jewellery and wear a lot of the same things over and over. I think when they fit in the background more, I can be more front and centre. When they are more out there, I fade into the background.

Thank you so much for this video! The idea of curating one's jewelry collection is something I'd never thought of before - brilliant :D. I have been a jewelry fanatic pretty much all my life (begged my mother to let me get my ears pierced when I was probably in 1st or 2nd grade...I now have 7 ear piercings and love them), and my personal style has tended to favor chunky statement type necklaces rather than dainty chains - I live in the southwestern US, love Native American jewelry, and have an extensive collection of both contemporary and vintage silver and turquoise Navajo jewelry, as well as some Hopi overlay silver and some Zuni petit point pieces. I also love pearls, sparkly rhinestone/crystal statement pieces and have started collecting more gold jewelry from thrift stores. I also like to make my own jewelry, including a recent pendant featuring a 65 million year oyster shell fossil I found on a hike. I like to mix and layer/stack bracelets and necklaces, similar to what you've described, but your suggestions are going to be incredibly useful to me. I was looking forward to watching your video all morning before I finally turned on my computer and sat with my second cup of coffee :D. Stay warm, and enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Your necklace is lovely and looks great layered :) My tip: I mix metals, and I found that I like it better when I wear at least one piece that has both gold and silver elements, it makes the whole jewelry combination look more intentional. I also have a silver ring with a (golden) citrin stone, and a gold ring with a white/silver stone, they do the job as well and I can even wear them together as they are identical except for colors. These mixed pieces really help the whole looking harmonious.
@pamelaatkinsonscats28734 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your tips. I do need to consciously make sure I swap around my jewellery. I have a tendency to grab what comes to hand rather than use all I have regularly. It means some pieces languish until I suddenly come across them again. Your design is absolutely beautiful.

Are you left handed? I love the layered look with pearls! All the looks are so chic! I sometimes wear one piece of two toned and that way I can mix metals easily. I separate silver and gold but have so much jewelry I seriously need to edit! There's a separate section just for turquoise (my birthstone.) I am 67 and still have pieces from high school. Some people have photo albums, I have my history in jewelry.... P.S. I love that copper plant container!!

Thanks for this video. I usually wear only one necklace due to tangling issues. I have bought jewelry on vacations as a easy to carry momento... current fave is a coin/signet ring with Athena from Greece. Love the uniqueness of each piece. Switching over to more white gold and silver because it suits my skin tone better. Another vote for your new co-creation in white gold +/or silver. Tip I heard ages ago, but forgot the source, is never wear faux diamonds close to your face. So if you are going to splurge on one item, make it earrings.

My mix-and-match tip is not to mix and match, honestly. I really tried to like the trend of putting 6 rings on every hand or 3 necklaces at once, because everyone does it these days, but wherever I see it, I keep thinking of a crow that just robbed a jewellery shop. I really like the jewellery collection that my grandmother and mother left me. Back then, owning solid gold pieces (rather than vermeil) was a point of pride and a sign of financial stability, so people bought very few pieces that they really loved and could pass on to their (great) grandchildren. The oldest piece I have is about 80 years old and does not have a scratch on it. Besides, wearing only a few pieces improves the look without drawing all the attention away from the person wearing it.

?!?!?!?!? Somehow, I think there's been a breakdown in communication...however, I listened to that portion of the video several times. You cannot possibly be suggesting that a "maximalist" limit themselves to 5-10 pieces of jewelry. That barely covers daily essentials of a ring on both hands, one necklace--let along several stacked, a bracelet, a watch, and earrings...IF they are all in the same metal. Essentials does not comprise a "collection" nor a need to "curate". While I agree on quality over quantity when it comes to clothing basics, accessories are what allow us lots of variety with our clothing pieces...which include not only jewelry, but scarves, gloves, handbags, hats, and shoes. They also take up the least amount of closet "real estate". Surely I misunderstood what you intended to say...or that our definitions don't sync up.
