Today we are talking about getting the best possible picture from your unit by leveling the transducer. If the transducer is not sitting level with the boat when it is in the water, you will not have a great picture when using SI, DI or 2D. Using these simple steps you can find the perfect angle for your transducer! #ACCCrappieStix #BoneHead #Asleepatthereel #Thumpgel #SniperMarine #CrappieCove

Once you have it level and image is where you want it to be, take the very tip of a knife and make two slight scratch marks directly in line as reference points. One mark at pivot point and one on the transducer. Or, use a white permanent marker if scratch mark would bother you. Then, you’ll always have a means to visually confirm angle has not changed.

I am so glad to hear that. Thank you for letting me know. I know it worked for me, but not many people let me know afterwards if the information on the video helped them. So glad it helped and also one thing that I did not say on there is this is something you might want to do every 6 months to a year, especially if you are fishing areas like I am in where you get a lot of standing timber. One jolt can mess it up, so not a bad idea to check it. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Awesome video, learning so much. In the instructions it says mount the trancducer next to the motor but I see you have your right under it?
@AsleepAtTheReel
@AsleepAtTheReel Ай бұрын
Thank you. Yeah honestly I did not read the instructions when before I did it. Technically it should be on the side. The reason for this is so the motor does not create static or fuzz on the screen. In my case it worked. What ever you do, make sure that you measure it and keep the thing straight. That is why I did it there because I could measure from the bottom, instead of from an angle. I hope that helps. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave a comment. Sorry it took so long, been on the road and came home to a dead computer. More videos coming soon as i finish building this one. Have a blessed Day!

I did not hear a thing for about a month, then one day I get a package with every Petra CD and a personal note from John. Fast forward to about 4 years ago, I found that card and contacted him. We talked on the phone for about an hour. He has become a good friend now. Check out www.johnwschlitt.com and then check out the Jay Sekulow Band. Here is a link to one of the songs. Has him, John Elefante (from Kansas), white Heart and more. They do cover songs that are simply amazing. yes to get the right angle, the boat needs to be moving. I tried to demonstrate that, but the bubble was all the way back to the top and did not move much. It makes a huge difference. Basically level it when the bat is at the speed that you are going to use your graphs. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Not only important to put the level in the same place on the boat but also to place the change on the exact place on the level. On a short level it could change the whole angle if you put the change 3/4 back on the level on the water and all the way to the end of the level on land.

Very informative video of transducer's angle placement. Only one question about this method. Is that only for transom mounted transducers? What about "in hull" transducers in some "smaller" boat counterparts like a kayak, Jon boats and similar watercrafts.

Great video, thanks. Say, I noticed that in viewing your side imaging, that you had a series of vertical lines in the starboard side of the water column while side imaging. I have the same situation in the port side of the water column in my side imaging returns. Do you or does anyone else know what is causing this interference? I don't believe it's the jackplate in my setup, but not sure. Any ideas, bad transducer, bad transducer cable? I'm at a loss. Anyway, love the prayer to begin and thank you very much for your service.

Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. that is a great question and one that I do not know the answer to. I would have to go back and look, but the lines that I normally see are lines from going faster than the unit is set for. You can set a speed in the unit itself. If it is set for 2mph and you are going 3 you can get lines. I will rewatch this video and see if I can see what you are talking about and maybe get an idea. Thanks again, great question and have a great Thanksgiving!

I'm mostly trolling for Salmon and Walleye in river current, will this technique still work for leveling at say 1.8- 2.6 mph. up stream or down? I'd like to have crisper image's while trolling so I assume I just need to match the speed to duplicate the fishing situation right? Although on windy day's this all goes out the window, so to speak? Thank You for this info it gives me something to think about and try! Just bought the HDS12 Live by Lowrance and want it as accurate as possible. Thanks again and for your Service!! God Bless.
@AsleepAtTheReel
@AsleepAtTheReel 7 күн бұрын
Yes. The slower you go usually the better image you have. My when put into gear goes 3.5 mph. If on a trolling motor instead I go slower. I have the speed set for 3.5 on the graph so as long as I am not going faster the image should be much better. Although this is a totally different type of fishing that I do you should get the same results. Thank You for watching and taking time to leave a comment. Great question.

Great video. One question, does this affect the transducer returns at anchor since it will now be angled up?
@AsleepAtTheReel
@AsleepAtTheReel Жыл бұрын
thanks and good question. It should not affect that, but at the same time I do not use an anchor. It is not really angling up though, it should be flat with the water. Your boat will angle, but the point to this is to figure out the boat angle and make the transducer flat with the water giving a better return. Thanks for watching and great question.

i am not getting a good picture on the left side but the right side is good . do you have to trim your motor a bit so the left side can get a good picture. because i find the motor is blocking the view?
@AsleepAtTheReel
@AsleepAtTheReel 24 күн бұрын
if the motor is blocking the view yes, you will need to trim it. If at all possible, I would move the transducer. Mine is below the motor, so it will not interfere.
@timdare0831
@timdare0831 3 ай бұрын
So you have to be going the same speed as you were going when you was leveling it before or it will be off again right ?
@AsleepAtTheReel
@AsleepAtTheReel 3 ай бұрын
For the most part. Basically put the boat in gear and use that speed. I like to go a little faster, say 4 mph, so that is the speed that I will use. Where speed is important is two things. First it will change the pitch of the boat causing fewer or more coins to level it. Second is there is a setting to determine your speed in the settings on the map. I have mine set for about 4 mph. What that does is tells the computer to send out more sonar waves or less If I am set on the graph to go 2 mps, but I end up going 6, my picture will be terrible. Hope that helps.

@AsleepAtTheReel
@AsleepAtTheReel 8 ай бұрын
No as that should have been done when installed. Your left and right is going to change depending on if you are alone in the boat or if you have a passenger. The biggest thing is front to back.

Shouldnt you use the coins on the transducer as well. Just wondering why, i havn't a clue. thank you. Craig
@AsleepAtTheReel
@AsleepAtTheReel 8 ай бұрын
You can but really not needed. If you put the level back on the boat, in the same place and make it level by raising or lowering the tongue, that puts the boat in the position of how it would be while driving. After that you simply need to put a level on the transducer, do not need the coins at that point because the boat is in the position of driving so all you are doing at that point is making sure the transducer is level with the bottom. Great question. I guess you could put the coins on the transducer with out lowering or raising the tongue, but I have not tried that to see if it gives a true level.
@skipro3
@skipro3 5 ай бұрын
what makes you think your side rail is level to the lake water surface? It isn't on my boat. I use the scum line on the boat left after a day on the water. I then proceed like you and level that scum line with a level and my trailer jack. Then level the transducer and lock it down.
@AsleepAtTheReel
@AsleepAtTheReel 5 ай бұрын
Nothing makes me think it is level, it is not especially when moving. That is why I use the coins. This is the flattest surface I have. If you get the coat level using the jack plate, you have failed to add in the factor of the degrees that the motor pushing adds. Yes, you will be close, but it does make a difference. When I do that same thing, putting the coins under to make it level and take the boat out of gear the level shows that I am off. If you want to view downscan and side scan not moving then ignore what I showed. Thanks for watching and the comment. Happy New Year!
@skipro3
@skipro3 5 ай бұрын
When moving, can you adjust trim and get the same effect as coins under the level? Maybe permenantly mount a bubble in the rail area and use trim to set up for level at any (reasonable) speed. Maybe not fuel efficient, but would keep the transducer level to the water surface. @@AsleepAtTheReel
