Saved my ass. Door was already messed up and they asked me (the locksmith) to look at it while changing door code. Sure enough it hit the bolt and got stuck. You’re doing gods work

Just moved into the place and try the opener and ya, like a grinding noise and no movement. Code blinks motor overheat but closer look and the trolly is jammed into the unit, there was no stop bolt. Will be jumping into this later today using what I learned here. Thanks for the video!!

My only question is when testing this to determine whether any additional adjustments to the up/down travel are needed to avoid another collision with the bolt 💥 should I let the trolly run a full cycle before allowing it to reengage with the door? Thanks in advance!! -Mike If it helps, this is an older model (nonWIFI) Chamberlain. And since the trolly is stuck up top, the door had to be disengaged and manually closed/locked.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the feedback. You can operate it without the door sure but probably safer to first look at where your limits are set on motor before adjusting the trolley. QUESTION: Is there a guide/pictures/videos on how to check (and maybe completely reset) the internal limiter plastic stuff on the inside of the opener- so it's set as if it were new? I wasn't sure if resetting the actual opener itself would reset the travel stuff... since it seems more like a physical change on the inside. I could be wrong.... not sure. CONTEXT: So our Trolley seems stuck on the opposite end- and pushed in enough to bring the chain down low (not off, but low.) We have almost the exact opener you worked on in your video here. This stuck trolley of ours happened after making travel adjustments, but it was odd- because we DECREASED the down travel quite a bit... and it seems to work initially... but after a few changes, it seemed to have adjusted it the opposite way leading to this. (Btw.. it's -20 degrees F here... so super cold out and the garage door was starting to open back up after closing- which lead us to make down travel adjustments.) It's like something is wrong with the travel adjustment stuff... as if things are getting reset or something after we make a certain number of travel changes. Hi , Thank you for the feedback. So after reading your post I bet your gear is going out. Good way to check this is look at the top of the motor and see if there’s black powder built up under the chain sprocket … also if you open the shell unit you can see the white plastic gear is shredded with what looks like snow ❄️. Look at one of my videos on how to change a gear and see if the failure looks the same. I’m almost confident that’s why your limits are off … when the motor operates , the gear inside the unit turns and rotates the sprocket which rotates the chain …. When the plastic gear is shredding off, the threads on the wheels become flat and it will spin but won’t grip in order to turn the sprocket. This will cause your limits to keep moving inside the unit but the chain won’t be calibrated with it. Hope this helps , I know it’s a lot of information but try it out, watch one of my other videos and let me know if that’s the issue. Thanks again

Hello Christopherradice, Yes it does have a humming sound when you try to use the motor. If it’s humming when pressed just make sure you look at the trolley and see if it’s jammed up against the stop bolt. If it is then that’s the problem and can fixed by watching the video. If the trolley isn’t jammed against the bolt then you may have a bad logic board or a bad capacitor or a bad rpm sensor. All of those are easy replacements

What if the trolley is stuck at the front of the rail?

Go to the front of the rail and release the nut from the shaft completely so that the chain or belt is hanging then pull the trolley back off of the bolt if it’s stuck. If it won’t move , you may need to lightly tap it with a hammer to release it. Once you do that then you can set it back where you the limits are set. What power tool did you use to open and tighten the nut.

Just a 13mm wrench or 13mm socket and a vice grip. If you can’t reach the socket through bc the shaft, then use the 13 mm wrench and it should work just fine. I hope that helps. Let me know. Thanks for watching 🙏

@@GARAGEMANTEDDY I tried 13 mm socket. It worked to tighten the nut. But looks like carriage and trolley assembly is broken. So getting the whole thing replaced.
