I was actually on the verge of a panic attack just 20 minutes ago, because something in my past hit me like a freight train tonight and I started to hyperventilate. I immediately opened my laptop and typed in Headspace and clicked this, closed my eyes, listened and focused on your words, and I was okay. *Thank You Andy!!! 🤟*

I'm Sorry For many years, I carried a deep sense of guilt with me. Which kept shifted, as soon as I apologized to a person for something. I carried the guilt with me and tortured myself for many years. Until I realized, the only person I really needed to apologize to, was myself. I have tortured myself the most. So every day, I apologize to myself, for what I did to myself. This is how I find my innocence; that I once lost, again. And by apologizing to myself, I release my guilt. And so I don't do anything to others either. Because I am at peace with myself and therefore, with the world. Therefore, if you carry guilt with you, apologize to yourself. Because you can't torture yourself and apologize to yourself at the same time. Tormenting inflicts sorrow and apologizing takes away sorrow.n

It's very difficult to get past the regret once you realise the thing you did was under your control and that you could have easily avoided that. It hurts to realise the goodness in others after we've lost them. And since I lost someone because of a decision I took based on how my mind perceived things at the time, the guilt and regret eats me up today. It gets difficult to not think you are a bad person when you did something like this knowingly.

I feel so much regret anxiety depression. The biggest being Guilt. I too did something horrible while I was married. Once but the person insisted on more + stalked me threatening he was gonna tell my husband we’ve had an affair for 2 years. This is untrue but who’s my husband gonna believe? I didn’t wait around to find out. So I left husband pup granddaughter (no blood relation). I rocked every one’s world but everything for his family worked well without me. The guilt + regret are unbearable

That's true, I smiled as you unfolded it. I tend to say to myself: "Manuel, you did what you did, you experienced the way you experienced because that was the person you were, that was the best thing to do for yourself as the person you were at that time. Whishing to have done differently means to do not accept we have to live in the present." A second ago I was a person, a second after another one. We are a continuum of change. A constant fluid of present.

"Anyway" The word "Anyway", is the pathway, to master guilt. Use it as a bridge, to become what you want to overcome. Because when you become, what you want to overcome, you overcome what you want to become. "Anyway" begins as being consciously unconscious and being unconsciously conscious. The simple, hard truth is that it's often difficult to integrate, when you have to carry the heavy burden of it. That's why it's good to go slowly with it. How to slowly go into cold water. You can even expand your comfort zone. Enter suffering willingly. If you willingly enter into suffering, you purify yourself of it. Because only if you can face the suffering, you can change it. The courage to be strong is the shield against the manipulative fears that attack you. Nevertheless, being strong and not letting yourself be manipulated, is the courage to be strong. A sacrifice for love, is a sacrifice worth dying for. We don't have to undo the things we do wrong or have done wrong in life. We die for it and thus sacrifice ourselves for love. Die for your negative qualities and live for your positive qualities. This is the sacrifice and salvation of the human spirit. Positive and negative imprints in the early days largely determine who we are. Some are positive and some are negative. However, the negative imprints can be overwritten. And how something begins only determines one's own end, the old experience and not the next new beginning of the new experience. We find new ways to leave old ways. This is how we find salvation. The guilt we feel is the one that enslaves us. Only when we also remember our innocence, are we free at the same time. I'm Sorry For many years I carried a deep sense of guilt with me. Which has shifted again and again, as soon as I apologized for something to a person. I carried the guilt with me and tortured myself for many years. Until I realized that the only one I really had to apologize to, was myself. I have tortured myself, the most. So every day I apologize to myself for what I've done to myself. This is how I find my innocence; that I once lost, again. And by apologizing to myself, I release my feelings of guilt. And so I don't do anything to others either. Because I am at peace with myself and therefore with the world. Therefore, apologize to yourself if you feel guilty about yourself. Because you can't torture yourself and apologize to yourself at the same time. Tormenting inflicts sorrow. And apologizing takes away sorrow. Master the guilt and regret by becoming one with it in a way that all resistance to it is accepted and integrated. Because guilt and regret are qualities of a good heart. To finally be free, apologize to yourself and so integrate the guilt and regret. The solution to every problem is the problem itself. It came into existence and it will not leave you. However, the point of view changes, from a different perspective. This is how problems, become solutions. No bad deed will ever be forgotten by the conscience. Treasure those bad deeds. They remind you, that you have not forsaken your humanity. The patterns within us lead us like marionettes, on threads. Patterns are stuck resistances that can bring you a lot of suffering. Because if we fight them, we fight ourselves. The way out of the pattern, is therefore not possible, as a marionette in resistance. We can only become one with the patterns and resistances as a marionette and thus pull ourselves, by the strings. Because in order to overcome something, you have to become one with it. It is the shift from the receiver within, to the creator within. Therefore I am not afraid. I am fear. I'm not in the dark, I am the dark. I don't project evil. I am evil. I am not suffering. I am the suffering. I don't feel guilty. I am guilt. This is the way of overcoming. Become it, overcome it. At the same time, the patterns still exist. We have evil in us, that accuses the other evil in us. Evil accuses the other evil, as evil. And evil, that evil, accused of being evil, does not itself believe to be evil? Isn't the evil that accuses other evils of being evil, not evil in itself? If you really seek good, you will not find it in condemnation. When you realize that the condemned in you, is also the judge, then you can choose to drop the judgement. The important thing is to look within yourself, for if you had the intention to harm someone, before you start blaming yourself, for creating something, that was not even in your control. And you will see that there is nothing to regret. Because the intention counts. To get out of something, you have to go in. This is how you free yourself and at the same time, consciously, keep yourself captive. Because the paradoxical opposites, carry the respective opposites within themselves. This is the way out and the way in. Pain is strength in disguise waiting, to be revealed. The reaction determines the content. Whether something is good or bad is ultimately decided in your own mind. It doesn't live in anything or anywhere, but in your own mind's response to something. When you shift your perception of something in a more lovable way, even the worst on earth can become the best on earth.

Wow. I felt some tears (dunno if it was happiness or sadness or both) during this. I’m a few days away from finishing the Sadness Pack after a break up and between that and hearing this idea that I couldn’t have done something different or I would have is so powerful. It’s hard to actually internalize and lord knows my mind certainly wants to return to the pattern of blaming myself and regretting things I said or didn’t say. But kinda intellectually knowing that I did my best, and using that thought in addition to meditation and practicing a gentle, patient kind of mindfulness has finally helped me get out of that cycle of guilt. It’s like I have an out now and the feeling of not being stuck in self hate is nothing short of amazing.

Tormenting inflicts sorrow and apologizing takes away sorrow.o

Regret and guilt to me are totally understandable. And we probably should feel it, might even deserve it. but if you stay in it you can't make progress or movement forward. If you just sit there thinking "God I'm a pos" even if rightly so even if you deserve to feel that way you can't function moving forward. Also I believe the best way to atone is to do better moving forward. Like to be better. To be stronger. And carrying around 3000 pounds of guilt that's just not possible.

After an experience where I've felt wronged by another person, becoming aware of my own decisions to continue to allow that person to treat me in a way I didn't deserve was a tipping point to let go of resentment. Accepting that some things are out of our control is also liberating from regret.

Because you can't torture yourself and apologize to yourself at the same time. Tormenting inflicts sorrow and apologizing takes away sorrow.p

Wow, super job. Much gratitude! I’d love to see people, (normal people) not celebs, who have these questions doing these small journeys with you. A first hand experience by those who use Headspace, walking through nature, meditating with them and answering their questions and sharing a life changing journey.

I'm Sorry For many years, I carried deep feelings of guilt with me. Which have shifted again and again, as soon as I apologized to a person, for something. I carried the guilt with me and tortured myself, for many years. Until I realized that the One I really needed to apologize to was myself. I tortured myself the most. So I apologize to myself for what I did to myself. And the intention to apologize is everything. So I find my innocence; which I had once lost. And by apologizing to myself, I release my guilt. And thus I do no harm to others. Because I am at peace with myself and thereby with the world. Therefore, apologize to yourself if you carry feelings of guilt with you. Because you can't torture yourself and apologize to yourself at the same time. Tormenting inflicts suffering and apologizing takes away suffering. "Anyway" and "yes" are the words that enable me to apologize to myself. Because I get impulses to get back into the hamster wheel of apologizing or torturing myself for certain things. But I say, "Yes, I'm apologizing to myself anyway." And I apologize to others when it's my free choice. And I use these two methods to do that. By either apologizing to people personally or apologizing to people within myself, if I don't want to make it personal. Because the honest intention is enough.I

I’d constantly play over my mistake (which I bet in comparison is laughable to what some of you guys have on) “I’d do anything of this this or this would happen, the truth is it can’t, it’s over. It’s been, it’s gone, forget about it move on” is the mantra I’d say to myself everytime thought thoughts came up over the months, it’s become easier to live with..but it still stings. I hope you all find solace x much love everyone

My issue is u forget your past but for some reason u meet your friend and they constantly remind you. example would be why arent you married and start having kids u know you're old and ill find myself automatically reverting to the past again. how do u deal with that.advice i ot is as follow Dealing with friends or acquaintances who constantly bring up your past and make comments about your current life choices can be challenging. Here are some strategies to help you navigate such situations: Set boundaries: Clearly communicate your boundaries and let your friends know that certain topics are off-limits. Politely but assertively express that you prefer not to discuss your personal life or past choices. It's important to advocate for yourself and establish boundaries that protect your emotional well-being. Redirect the conversation: When faced with intrusive questions or comments, redirect the conversation to more positive or neutral topics. Shift the focus to subjects that you are comfortable discussing or that interest both parties. This can help steer the conversation away from sensitive areas and maintain a more positive atmosphere. Choose your response: Instead of feeling defensive or getting caught up in justifying your choices, choose how you respond. Recognize that you have the power to decide how much weight you give to their comments. Respond calmly and confidently, and if needed, politely decline to engage in further discussion on the topic. Surround yourself with supportive people: Seek out relationships with individuals who respect and support your choices. Surrounding yourself with positive influences can help counterbalance the negative impact of those who constantly remind you of your past. Cultivate friendships with people who encourage your personal growth and accept you for who you are in the present. Practice self-compassion: Remind yourself that your past does not define you and that you have the power to shape your present and future. Be kind to yourself and practice self-compassion. Focus on your personal growth, achievements, and the positive choices you have made. Embrace the journey you are on and appreciate the progress you have made thus far. Seek professional support: If dealing with reminders of your past becomes overwhelming or affects your well-being, consider seeking support from a therapist or counselor. They can provide guidance, help you develop coping strategies, and assist in processing any unresolved emotions or experiences related to your past. Remember, your past does not have to dictate your present or future. You have the power to choose how you respond to reminders from others and how you shape your own narrative. Focus on your personal growth, surround yourself with positive influences, and prioritize your own well-being as you move forward in life.

Thank you. 🙏 Life brought me here because during a psychology lecture, I wanted to tell some one a fun fact but they started to talk about trauma and stuff. I did not know how to react and anyways, we said some things, she made a complaint about me and I was SO hard on myself even after I tried to apologise several times over Email. Thankfully, I found this video shortly after.

I'm too bad of a man to not live without guilt, I've done a lot of bad things and I feel that I deserve every little accidents that happen to me as I think of it as punishment for what I did. I don't want to live with it but it's hard for me to accept and forgive myself. I'm trying but it's hard to fully let it go.

Because you can't torture yourself and apologize to yourself at the same time. Tormenting inflicts sorrow and apologizing takes away sorrow.q
