Me too. I love that block. First saw it in a restaurant. A lady was hand stitching the opening down. (That is when sewing machines were a no no in quilting) I commented on how beautiful it was . She was so nice as to give me her name and address, so I could come by and she would show me how to piece it.Never made one. Before my busy life with home , job, and children she had passed on . She will be remembered by me untill I’m gone. I think I will try your method. If I get it made I’ll post here. And thank you so much.

As always Laura, just perfect!!! I see I'm very late to the party since this was posted years age. But I just started quilting last year :) This is an awesome way to make the Cathedral pattern. I made a quick bed runner and just love it. I did find that of all my needles they all seem to be just too thick for this project. So, I opted for using a glue stick. It worked like a gem and made even quicker work of it. Thanks for sharing your amazing talents :)

Very nice Laura. The first thing that struck me was how many different sizes you could make with this block to get an almost infinite block pattern. But, the best way I will use it after using it as a quilting block will be to adjust my batting and let it be a potholder. This block is a close runner-up to your cute potholder! Thank you for all your tips and tutorials?!

I know this was posted a while ago and I am hoping I get an answer but can you make a whole blanket out of this pattern? Would you just sew more blocks together? Make a bunch of sets of 4 and then sew them together? And do you quilt it or do you leave it like you do the cathedral window with no quilt batting? Thanks a bunch for your great tutorial I love this!!
@SewVeryEasy6 жыл бұрын
I would batt it and yes you can make it as big as you would like :)

I think this may be a dumb question and apologise if so. I love this idea, thank you but can't work out how you join the blocks together first before stitching around the outside of the four. Do you whip them together by hand? Thanks and good wishes from New Zealand.

@tiptop83027 жыл бұрын
Lovely but how do I sew the block of four to the border, as it already has a 1/4" seam. Confused about how you get beyond this block.
@SewVeryEasy7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. As this was just to show how to make the block, I can see what you mean. The idea is that you can use one or as many blocks as you want to replace something already in the pattern to make you own design. You will need to be sure to leave a 1/4" seam so that it can be used just like any other block. Hope this helps.

Hello , now I know I’m going to make a fool of myself because I just watch but how do you sew them together if you join them will that make the seam to thick ,it’s lovely by the way and I hope you don’t mind me asking .
@SewVeryEasy4 жыл бұрын
I don't mind you asking at all :-) And yes the seams do end up very thick and bulky. This video was more of teaching the technique on how you can add it in your own quilts. However when making these blocks I do recommend not necessarily putting them together but spacing them so you have a plain block in between. This helps keep the seams not so bulky. And you can do some amazing designs this way. Thanks for asking and don't hesitate to ask. I really enjoy hearing from everyone :-)

Ugh, I am not getting how to sew the 4 squares together. I see you have sewn around the edge, but when and how did you sew the 4 squares to each other?
@SewVeryEasy8 жыл бұрын
I just did a row of stitching around the edges just to show you the corners. You will treat the squares the same as any other square...the difference is that the pins will hold the folded fabric on as you sew. hope this helps
