Hope you enjoyed this weeks video! Let me know below if you have a different method than those mentioned in the video to make your scene lighter. If you're considering taking your animation skills to the next level, and master Blender's animation tools at the same time, check out our Ultimate Animation Course: toanimate.ca/?

Most likely pretty late for those getting into blender, but for those of you who have not gotten courses, or the like, a very BIG note on the whole Link Duplication thing. What Brian is talking about here, is not the render output but the working on the scene. You Link Dup 100x trees, and the render will still work on each of them as if they're really there. They'll just be super easy to work with within the scene, and thus allow you to set everything up faster, smoother, and with fewer issues. (Also, a linked duplication can be rotated apart from the source, so give those 100x trees a random rotation on the Z axis for something to brake up the uniformity.)

Very useful, I rediscover Blender after 3 years use ago. 👍

Working with Max just in the personality walk chapter, I still can't get past 10fps. But this seems to be a Blender problem since I get real-time playback in Maya on heavy rigs and my hardware specs are overkill (plus, it isn't like you can lighten that scene any further). It's just frustrating because the Foundation won't address it and hardly anyone mentions it because there's only a handful of professional animators doing production-level work in the software.

quick question, when i have my character with a few dfferemt outfits already made for various situations. What is the best way to put them into an easy to use toggle on off switch. Because when i link the character into a new blender scene every outfit collection is visivble always and i have to turn the off manually .
@BrianKouhi7 ай бұрын
I'm not sure exactly how to achieve this, but usually the rigger of the character creates controllers that allow you to swap clothing, by automatically hiding all but the one you turned on in the Rig UI.

Damn, this video was really useful! I didn't know that linking the files gives better performance than appending them and about the ALT+D instead of Shift+D. Thanks man!

Does Blender have many free rigs compatible with 4.0? I've been having issues trying to find rigs with FK/IK Switch. I think it's because bone layers were removed. But I've just been in several spaces trying to make my own rig and using rigify, which I don't know if it's more wasting my time than being worth it.

That's a good question, Blender 4 definitely did mess up our rigs, so we had to revamp all of our rigs to be compatible with Blender 4+. If a rig is free and doesn't have constant support, it may not be worth it for the creator to update everything. Over time however, all new free rigs will be for Blender 4 and above.

This is not new we could link or append in blender 2.7b but now we have eevee render. Thanks for noticing

Yep, nothing is exactly a "new" feature here, just compiling all of the different methods of speeding up my scene that I use, into one video.

I knew some things but others are difficult to remember. I have to practice linkin and scening. (My computer it's new, and still suffers ^^U) Great video ^^

does your course ever go on sale? I really want to take it, I'm just going to have to watch for a sale if it does. The work y'all put in is really impressive and I really really hope there is a sale...

Nice one Brian, but please make a video where you go through all the aspects of linking and overrides, if you haven't already? How does it work and what does it even mean? As this part is still eluding me and I'm sure many others as well. I have tons of rigs but very few of them works as they should in linked mode. So cleary I'm doing something wrong. Regarding performance though. I had terrible speeds om my 12+ year old PC with 32 Gb ram and a GPU GTX 660 Ti, CPU Intel i7 4790 K. But then I saw a video on YT on how to set up my rig in Bios and it turned out my CPU had NEVER run at the speed it should of so I got it up to I think 4100Ghz and now Blender was running faster than ever 30 FPS and no high CPU temps at all, a modest 45-55 ish degrees C. However right now I can't use my PC at all unfortunately. I swapped out my CMOS battery recently as I got tired of going into BIOS to set date/time all the time. But after that it will not even start. It's like it cannot find a boot sector on my drive or something? I get into BIOS, so it looks like the new battery does store the new settings. But no windows boot. So as a result I can't animate at all. 😢 So if you have any tips regarding what to do I'm all ears. Cheers.

Hiiii!! I have been following your channel for a long time. I want to ask a question and get your opinion on it. You know, as someone who loves learning, I want to learn animation, but I'm very hesitant about which program to start with. Which is better for beginners or easier, in your opinion? Blender or Maya 🥲?
