You know, I have watched this entire series probably 20 times... I have it playing when I am crafting my tiles and terrain. And everytime I pick up on something new, or get inspired from another youtubers idea and how I can incorporate it into this system. *DMG style combined with Wyloch style make some real great pieces for my table...* Anyways, thanks for jumping into the youtube scene.... All you guys have great ideas and really inspired me to get back into crafting. Im up to 60 tiles now (dungeon) and just finished 15 doors last night. Going to make 10 more of each basic tile and then need to roll them percentiles to see what I am going to start making next... castle set or a cavern set..... :)

I ended up here thanks to someone on DM Scotty's facebook group. I just binge-watched all of your videos, liked, subbed, and decided that I need to start over on my tile sets! I look forward to seeing more. :D

After watching Black Magic Craft for so long I kinda realized how hard his method of tiles are to make. These look easier to make and look incredible. I love seeing different styles of how different people make / have their own style of dungeon tiles.

Cool stuff. I also do paper minis basically the same way you do, but noticed in this video that yours are very refelctive. Is that because they are printed on a glossy photo paper or do you do a gloss varnish of some sort? I print mine on card stock so the are very matte and I've been thinking about coating them with something to stiffen them up more and give them a bit of gloss.

These cavern floor tiles look like veins or roots. With some different colors, you could have some "inside the beast" tiles!
@loganthrasher47025 жыл бұрын
The tiles honestly look more like limestone than anything and whith the varnish they look wet so these tiles really look like an aquifer. This would especially so if you use lighter colors and keep the varnish and loose the jems. Just something to keep in mind.

Wyloch, to cover the "open" space on the tiles. Have you though about some "fog of war techniques. Possibly just placing some black or sepia painted cotton balls on the tiles... thoughts???

I love your tiles. They look much faster and lighter than the casting molds I use now. Have you done a video on Syfy / industrial tiles?

The texture of the foil and glue almost makes me think of vines, like an ancient temple covered in jungle growth. Is there a way you could paint the raised surfaces with green, like lightly drybrushing them or using a flat, rigid surface like a piece of cardboard or block of wood to "stamp" the paint on?
@usncahill9 жыл бұрын
The resulting surface looks almost like forest/woodland roots. Wonder if you could you that concept, aligning or creating the otherwise erratic ridges in the foil to show roots/twigs.

I know this is an older video, so I hope you'll have a chance to answer... How would you use (or adapt) these for multi-level caverns such as Cragmaw Hideout?

If you add a drop of floor polish to the wash ,the ink will gravitate into the recesses to.

+Darren Urquhart I found that it already sunk in very well with just water, but certainly for more skilled painters and even better effect, great tip.

Very cool. Did your painting experiment include light gray base coat with brown washes?
@MrJoshuakirk859 жыл бұрын
Very cool. Do you think a dry brush of a light tan (after the final wash dried) would have added anything?
@WylochsArmory9 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Kirk I did experiment with that, and it made things too bright and contrast-y. The washes pretty much flow down, leaving the peaks the original base color, but slightly darkened.
@AnarchyDice9 жыл бұрын
Have you tried experimenting with a matte clear spraypaint sealer to top up the tiles after the glossy varnish coat? I did this for some of my miniatures to tone down the shine and give them a tad more protection. For 'wet' bits I wanted to keep shiny I touched them up after with a spot of mod podge.
@WylochsArmory9 жыл бұрын
+AnarchyDice I generally just use a satin varnish, it's right in the middle of gloss and matte. But yes you're right these tiles, with acrylic paint, should have a varnish...and matte looks really good.

Hello, everyone! I"m having a hard time finding any double corrugated cardboard, any hints as to where to find some or places that sell it?
@aspektx7 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but I can't quite hear what you are using to edge the cardboard base with. Also, glad I found another good channel to sub to, thank you.
@WylochsArmory7 жыл бұрын
It's just a very thin cardstock or even printer paper will work.
@58Kym8 жыл бұрын
painting with pva glue and pressing down with crumpled tissue paper would give you the same effect without the issue of paint on foil. Modpodge over the tissue and then paint as usual. Cheers
@mr.c75227 жыл бұрын
you use many standard sizes be easy enough to make a small wood stamp line the edge with a old school dubble sided razor blade cut in half the glue it together to make a sharp v blade give it a good handle to press you be able quickly stamp out most common tiles
@ignaciogallarati72879 жыл бұрын
Have you tried using masking tape to cover the corrugation? (instead of black strips) I saw the dmg using it once, i'll like to know your opinion. (sorry for the lousy english :P )
@WylochsArmory9 жыл бұрын
I am not a fan. I like cardstock and hot glue because it gives an extra axis of rigidity to the tile, making it far stronger. Also, masking tape is easy to puncture. Lastly, having that hot glue entrained in the corrugation adds meaningful weight, which definitely helps when tiles are as small as mine.

Ive got the prep work done to do 60 of these tiles, 20 of each type. Does that sound about right? Or is there one type that needs more/less? Also, is there any reason why i shouldn't wrap the walls in foil also? So they have the same texture as the floor.
@WylochsArmory8 жыл бұрын
That should be plenty. Wrapping in foil is extra work. And I like having it be a different texture.
@msmith14378 жыл бұрын
Master Wyloch - how many of each tile 'type' do you recommend to be able to create a nice set up?
@WylochsArmory8 жыл бұрын
+DM Misha That completely depends on what you're building. My usual answer to this is: draw your next adventure's map, and then build only the tiles needed for that map. My caves might be a LOT smaller than yours, so I need different or less tiles.
@msmith14378 жыл бұрын
+Wyloch's Crafting Vids Ahhhh gotcha! I'll be doing the Caves of Chaos from the Keep on the Borderlands module. Have already decided to make some 4x4 'field' tiles and possibly larger to help with larger rooms!

Do you have any way to implement some of your "clip on" accessories onto these? I was just considering if i needed to build a custom tile or two for a trapped wall.
@WylochsArmory8 жыл бұрын
+Dustin Gonzales I do have an idea, it's slated for upcoming episode. Basically, the clip on is very small...instead of being an inch wide, it's only about 1/4" wide. This allows it fit on pretty much any curved segment of wall.
