I'm sorry to say this now:-When you make this out of white flour: we call "TATA". Original Chippi Sogi in Jaffna Or Sri Lankan Tamils make out of roasted rice flour. Some they mix a little steam white flour even they mix Orid flour(Ullunthu). Making out of white flour normally Sri Lankan Tamils won't use.

Wimala Perera .....Thanks for sharing your versions and more about sriLankan way or Indian Tamil way...Does it matter ? There are many versions .Living in USA,of Indian origin..from the state of Karnataka...we have three different versions. Some making it out of rice flour and coconut milk.But do admire her preciseness..and hygienic way of showing how to make a dish. Hats off to her. This dish is made by the Mangalore Christians during Easter and Xmas.and during Diwali in many homes in the same state. Tamilnadu,and Kerala use it as offering.for any festival. Thanks for hearing me out.in India we call this kal kale in many languages of the south .

Hi Gowri, after making this chippi sohee following the recipe , it did not turnout as expected. The chippi turn out being dense and soft after the sugar caramel was added. It was not crunchy. The size and shape of chippi looked like yours . Not sure what went wrong. After a day, was your chippi still crunchy.
