I have been thinking about tasting Christmas Tinner for over a year now, and since it doesn't really exist I had to make my own. 😅 Behold, the 9-layer beast that is Christmas Tinner. Designed to be eaten directly from the top of the can starting with a breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon, the continuing on with mince pie, turkey and potatoes, gravy, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, broccoli, carrots and parsnips, and finally, Christmas pudding. 🥳

Oooh, don’t melt that butter! It’s called “Hard Sauce” because you serve it cold (hard) and it melts into the steamy hot pudding. My sister and I (aged 4 and 6) used to sneak into the dining room and eat it from the serving bowl with teaspoons. Daddy made a killer sauce, and we both took long, dreamy naps afterwards.

Rebecca Lee you can actually make it at home if you want. I have never personally done it but it’s pretty easy. You can google it. And good job on using it the proper way 😁 our scones are very close to American “biscuits”, and traditionally you split one in two, then do jam and then cream (or cream then jam. It’s a whole debate between two counties in England, bc clotted cream is a food native to that area, so “cream teas” are sold all over the place. It’s always a plate of scones with jam and clotted cream.) I actually would recommend looking up an English scone recipe. Try Delia Smith. I think you’ll really like them 😊

I have a 200 year old family recipe for pudding. We put the ingredients together the night before and leave it to prove overnight. We then boil the mixture in a floured calico cloth for three hours. We carefully peel off the cloth whilst it’s still hot. The flour that was on the cloth leaves a light skin on the surface of the pudding. We heat a little brandy and light it as we pour it over the pudding. When we slice it, the inside is luscious. It looks like a rich dark chocolate pudding. Absolutely delicious. Our family Christmas cake sounds much more like your description. In June, the fruit is soaked in rum for 2-3 months. It’s then made into a cake and baked. Whilst still warm, more rum is poured over the cake and then the whole thing is wrapped in layers of paper. In the old days it was then stored in a tin and carefully fed extra rum once a month. Nowdays we wrap it in 3 layers of paper, a layer of plastic wrap and stored in a tin. Once a week, we fill a large syringe with rum and inject it into different parts of the cake, sealing the holes with tape as we go. The cake will last for years without going bad. You do have to be careful though, my father in law got a bit greedy one year and after eating way too much cake, went for a drive. The police booked him for mid range dui. He hadn’t had anything to drink. It was just the cake.

4 minutes, 32 seconds into this video: I'm Irish, my childhood memories of Christmas pudding, is that you douse the pudding in enough alcohol, that the blue / yellow flame, is literally like half a foot...that's not an exaggeration...It's alcohol...we're Irish...we've put our own spin on our eastern neighbours tradition...getting blood alcohol poisoning at age five...I'm joking...the flame burns off the alcohol that we pour on it. 👑 🚼 🍷🌊🌊🌊🏂🏄🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

@@fainitesbarley2245 I've heard that in the USA, they prefer fake candles to real one's because of the fire hazard. Over here, thankfully helped by our damp climate and moderate to semi-cold climate, we regularly leave multiple rows of candles burning in our churches over carpet or timber flooring and it's fine. There is a tradition of having lit candles, with open flames, in the inside part of the window sill, right in front of the, not remotely flame resistant, dry cloth curtains, here in Europe, probably started by the Jews, to welcome in strangers in times of need. Europeans, we're still here...despite our best efforts.

I'm 69, my mom started her Christmas treats marathon the day after Thanksgiving with the preparation of fruitcake. We lived in the U.S. South, she was of Scandinavian descent, an unbelievable array of cookies, cakes, fudge would result. Well after Christmas, I would find fruitcake or bourbon balls in my school lunch, embarrassed because the scent of the booze that kept those "goodies" going wafted out of my lunch box.
