Thank you for showing this American girl how to make dhalpuri roti. My guyanese husband will be thrilled. His mother no longer makes them and his sisters did not learn how to make them. I am a very good baker and I know with what you have provided, I will make my husband proud. Thank you so much!!!

Thank you for the lesson. I was married to a Trinidadian 30 years ago and he would never tell me how to make Dhalpuri roti. I've had to order it at caribean resturants. Now you've given what I need to make my own. Again, Thank you soooo much. Lady WyndWalker

Thank u so much... my father is from Georgetown, Guyana. My grandmother used to make these for me... After she died, I lived in Canada my whole life, it was difficult to find places that make this type of roti. My mom is French so she does not know how. I will try to make this at home and let my son grow to love caribbean food as I do. He is only 22 months and already loves my curry. People in Nova Scotia, where I live now, have not even heard of it

Thanks Chris for sharing. Today I tried this and the buss up shut recipe and they both came out fine. Midway through grinding the peas, my magic bullet stopped working. I used the rolling pin to roll the rest of the peas and they came out close enough to what was expected. Gave me a little more exercise. May God continue to bless you so you can continue to share with others, and keep our Trini cuisine going.

So happy to find this recipe. Been a fan of Dhalpuri rotis for 20 years and never knew how to make them. In my ignorance, I had no idea if the interior was split-pea, chick-pea, or some kind of corn flour. Can't wait to make it at home. Many thanks.

hey, I know this food mill. We used it for meat, as well as doughs and veggies in Poland, but it's been also popular in Germany back in the days (way before people got that lazy, lol). How lovely to find something common in these food cultures - never thought of that :-) btw we also fill up sort of "pancakes" with veggies, mushrooms and cheese; it's almost close to roti, so this caribbean meals always give me a hint of exotic but also homelike feelings. much love

I have eaten much roti around Brooklyn; regular and the dahl...never knew I was missing the real thing-the store bought one was always crunchy and sparsely filled. I took a Caribbean cooking course years ago so learned the plain roti but this filled to the brim roti is superb. This is the real deal right here. Your Curry chicken, a nice green salad and this makes a super meal.
@shirinjoorawon898910 жыл бұрын
These are eaten here in Mauritius too, Infact its sold on every corner here. I put salt, turmeric, a pinch of baking SODAand a 1\2 tsp of ginger garlis paste in the water to boil the split peas and when the dholl is strained the water is kept and used to knead the dough. Try it !!! caribbeanpot !

How does it help to use the water from the peas?
@shirinjoorawon898910 жыл бұрын
Warm water makes it easy to knead the flour and the Dhalpuri dough gets a good olour and taste. Nothing is wasted.

this is great! I've always wanted to make dhalpuri because I love it so, this is very helpful because usually when my family makes it they don't measure because they know it so well. I tried this and my roti came out terrible haha. It was a combination of the dough consistency being off, stuffing too much dhal and not rolling the roti thin enough. Still an excellent recipe, better luck next time!

We have dhal puri roti in Mauritius and it is street food eatwn by rich or poor and most of our compatriots ovrseas crave for it .ours is way smaller and sold by pairs.the street vendors sell it with veggetable pickle ,tomato sauce also know as rougaille and with coriander and tomato chutney . Its the most popular snack.

great cooking , we make the same here in mauritius , it is also the most popular street food available . Only difference , we add a teaspoon of powdered turmeric to the dal while boiling , and we use the dal water after straining to make the dough. On cooking the dhall pooris will be of an appetising golden colour. Good cooking ahead. It's possible that our great grandparents originate from the same state in India. Chandra
