Sugar is what helps the yeast to activate. Salt should be added after the activation of the yeast. She is doing this backwards.

@Robert Linn - That's how My Late-Mother made bread the way You describe. I don't really care to watch COLON:Eyezers cook, they get a lot wrong and many _(not all)_ are dirty or too undercooked at cooking when I do take time and watch them. Her long fur is dangling too close to the food, need to be tied back & covered.
