It's not a clash of cultures, this is censored history, most of the arab speaking countries that claim to be the origin of this salad were parts of iran, and this salad is just shirazi salad with the added addition of bell peppers and substitution of lemon juice instead of sour grape juice. With all due respect, Enjoy your shirazi salads 😁

This is shirazi salad, and they've just added bell pepper to make seem "new". It's just like "turkish" bread and baqlava which are parts of iranian multicultural heritage. It's important who made it, it's a lart of our cultural identity, and you don't simply go around and steal people's cultural identity. How would you feel if someone stole your identity or a sentimental photograph from you!
@kimquinn77284 жыл бұрын
Isn't it a matter of how you choose to look at it? Its a compliment when someone enjoys a food and chooses to make it. Its not stealing. To have that view is like a whole new set of bars being placed up to keep people separate, stranded and ostracized. Food is a labor of love. Cooking or consuming. Do it with joy. I never trust a person who claims they would love to 'share' their recipe and then deliberately leave out ingredients. Its feels stingy and small hearted. To me, anyway.

In Israel, and amongst Jews, it's called Israeli salad because since the Jews were forcibly evicted from every single Arab country (how many Jews in Iraq now? Fun fact, no one in Israel calls this Israeli salad, it's just "salat katsutz" (Chopped Salad) or even "salat aravi" (Arab salad). This type of salad is common throughout the Middle East and Mediterranean. Everyone there has some variation of it that is practically almost the same. Turkish: Shepherd Salad, Persian: Shirazi Salad, Palestinian: Salatat Banadura, Egyptian: Salata Baladi, Saudi: Salata, Indian: Kachumber, etc. What we know for sure is that tomatoes weren't even introduced and cultivated in the Middle East until around the 18th - 19th century in the Levant which was part of the Ottoman Empire. Nevertheless, almost every cuisine in the region has a form of it and it isn't a big deal that this is called Israeli Salad outside of Israel.
