Video Transcripts:
Okay so, our two cups of water is almost boiling. I'm going to add a heaping half teaspoon ground turmeric to that and stir it around and cover and reduce the heat to a simmer, and we'll just let that simmer for 10 minutes.
Okay, I like turmeric tea plain, unsweetened and I like it cold, very refreshing in the summer. You can add ginger to it if you want, its fine adding other spices to it but it's got a pretty distinctive taste,
I like it as it is. So I'm going to turn off the heat and it might be best to let this settle for a bit because you don't want the residue, but I’m going to use the following tea strainer here and I’m just going to pour this, and if you find that the strength of it is too strong for you, you can just dilute it with water. That's good, that's filtering out all the residue. Let me get a spoon.
And that’s turmeric tea!

I make a turmeric paste with distilled water. This is stored in my fridge as a concentrate and is used 1 teaspoon at a time. I like to mix a teaspoon into a cup of warmed almond or soy milk and just a drop or 2 of honey, during the cold winter months. This is know as "Golden Milk". It's especially good right before bedtime, it's so soothing and comforting.

So glad that I read the comments. Just read something relating to the question I was going to ask so my post will be shorter :). I'm using turmeric root, the root, and fresh ground black peppercorns and wondering if I should simmer the pepper with the turmeric root or add after. Anyone have experience with his? Also, I think Dr. Weil does know about the efficacy of the black pepper with turmeric, but is keeping it simple for all generic turmeric tea uses, therapeutic as well as casual tea drinking enjoyment.

Thank you for showing me that I need a strainer! Because I tried to make it on my own, and I never had no one tell me or any book or video show me. I love the way it naturally taste, one day I tried to drink it so fast because it tastes so good, and it wasn't the best results I'll just say😷. But now that you describe the residue that make perfect sense, now I am man enough to try it again tomorrow. Because it does taste and smell pretty great, I never knew that it tastes like that and smell that great by itself. I brought it originally to mix it with honey and lemon to fight off my third case of pneumonia in 20 years, this was my first time ever using it and it really helps suppress my cough. I just happened to fall in love with the smell of the turmeric and taste itself😊.

Im led to believe that an oil component(my choice is coconut oil)slows down the digestive properties to get maximum benefit adding the cracked black pepper improves the bioavailability, and heating it as you do destroys some of the positive effects.I use grated organic when is available with the black pepper and fresh grated ginger into a pineapple smoothy, works better than the pain pills for my arthritis.

Dark6star We prefer it cold as we generally have hot Do-Matcha tea in the mornings. Another interesting point is how long this stays good in the refrigerator. Some time ago our turmeric/ginger/pepper tea mixture got pushed to the back and forgotten for months as we have two containers usually. Opened it up and it was as good as the day we made it. Consuming this with an anti-inflammatory diet and, of course, home-made sauerkraut and we may just see 120 or so.

matteo4m Agreed. Interestingly enough, the added ground pepper doesn't make the tea a total pepper extravaganza. And I add at least six good twists of course ground. It all balances out very tastily. It has such a clean and refreshing aftertaste.

I heard that black pepper helps the absorption of some of the compounds in turmeric by up to 2000%! That is an incredible number. When I make this tea I put in some freshly ground black pepper and it was very spicy! I put some honey in it to mellow out the spice but it is still very bold! I would say it's almost on par with a weak jalapeno

I was perplexed when Dr. Weil Boiled the water, added the Turmeric & COOKED the nutrients! I have never seen RED turmeric and I have been cooking w/ it for years. Only recently my Facial Sponge turned this color AFTER I removed Baking Soda from my face AFTER having previously removed Turmeric from my face (which Dyed my sponge). Could the Discoloration have been caused by the Acid from the "Pot" he was using?

I am concerned that the turmeric has been oxidized because it has been overheated which is why it turns dark brown from oxidation heat exposure which likely damaged its nutrient values. Do you know if there's any truth to this? Evidence otherwise?

+Leila Békélé yes, i usually add some sweetener...not too much though... my recipe is 2 cups water or milk or combination of these 1 tea spoon of curcuma 1 pinch crashed black pepper corns a few slices of ginger or grated ginger and 1 table spoon of sweetener i don't boil it for that much... not even a minute...usually i just boil water and add the ingredients and let it soak for 10 minuts without fire.

Nikos, did you know that artificial sweetner affects your brain? It is dangerous and can have a long lasting negative effect on your memory, can eventually cause you to develop many psychological problems Do your research! One of my dear friends used to drink diet pop and she ended up in a wheel chair. Doctors couldn't figure out what the problem was. Eventually she stopped drinking diet pops, etc. After a few years, she began to walk again and was able to think clearly, her memory improved. She swears that she will never use sweetner again. Please do not use any form of artificial sweetner and like I said, do the research. I just found out that Pepsi is starting to put Aspertame back in the Diet Pepsi regardless of U.S. FDA laws. (July 13/16).
