I always get swing weight first. You probably didn’t need to put too much lead tape on patrick’s racquet. Just enough to match swing weight. Then add silicone for balance. Then match weight add lead tape to the top of the grip or handle. Adding lead tape to grip or throat will affect your swingweight minimally.

Still cant understand how: Weight is the same Balance is the same but the swing weight is different. This would mean that the weight is distributed differently. It would be cool to place both rackets in the airport scanner to see how they look on the screen. It could be the lead strips are more on the sides than on the top. Should play around with the lead strips by moving them around the racket.

Hi Harry. In the Federer racket´s video you showed us that your actual Federer´s racket is (nowadays) a bit shorter and wider in the head. That´s because gut mains didn´t lose much tension as the Luxilon Poly on the crosses (after some years). So you are using the specs of a racket that is not really the racket that Roger uses, because his rackets aren´t shorter (he changes strings everyday). So balance, swingweight on the old Federer racket are different from the ones that he uses. Slightly different, but definitely not the same.

This entire video is questionable. Right from the start 12 point head light i.e 305 mm was measured with plastic wrap on the handle. Weight of the racquet without plastic wrap 339.5 gm. Now lead tape weight was not mentioned let's call it x gm. Now normally over-grip weighs 6 gm and strings around 18 gm. Now it all adds up to 363.5 gm plus weight of lead tape x gm but when this racquet was measured the weight turned out to be 363.5gm, where the weight of the lead tape go? How'd you concluded 1/2 gm of silicone to be added? Where's the maths?

For some reason you always apply a specific amount of lead (in the case of RF it's always a couple 1/4" strips from 10-2) rather than applying whatever you need to get up to a certain swingweight. You try to make an instructional video but fail at the simplest basic of specing according to a desired swingweight, which is probably the most important thing there is when specing up a racquet. So dumb.

@jerome_morrow

This is not how one does proper customisation, and an epic fail on so many levels. For a start, we do not simplistically apply lead tape by arbitrary length and location since every hairpin has a degree of variation in weight, balance point and swingweight. The required weight and precise location of added weight can be simply determined using one of several available online calculators. One does not always get to make excuses and say “he wasn’t fussed about swingweight and wanted a little heavier anyway”. Until we actually see you take two new frames which are within manufacturers variable tolerances and get them perfectly matched with proper and accurate weighing to get identical weight, balance point and swingweight, I’m afraid your “customisation” videos are just misinformation for the inexperienced or less knowledgable with tennis gear. Stick to what you’re good at, but please no more “customisation” videos until you learn how to do it properly.

He did the same thing in all his other “customisation” videos. Not once has he ever weighed the lead tape applied, nor has it ever been done with a pre-calculated specific intention to attain a target spec. It’s not even difficult to do this the right way. Always just arbitrary strips based on length and location. If you think I’m being too critical, you’re entitled to your opinion and I’m perfectly comfortable with it. Equally, I’m within my right to call out misinformation in his videos, no matter if it was deliberate or unintended. You think it’s better that people watch this blindly and end up placing lead arbitrarily from this grommet to that on their RF97s trying to replicate Fed’s specs? Would you let Harry match your racquets up for you, based on what skills he has demonstrated thus far in this area? I wouldn’t let him near my sticks even if he offered to do it for free! I’ll happily take his advice on many other areas of tennis gear that he has amply demonstrated his knowledge and experience. But as far as customisation and matching work goes, I’m going to have to pass.
@bengray5013
@bengray5013 3 жыл бұрын
@@jerome_morrow it’s simple math to figure out the weight of the tape, but the point is both racquets were the same balance and static weight starting out so applying identical tape will give near identical results, but as his customer is probably not gonna notice it that much then I don’t see the issue here, it’s not like he’s P1 or Ringroll, etc... no I wouldn’t let him customise my racquets, I’m capable of doing that myself...

If you watch how he made that first “Roger racquet” in the first place (2 previous vids), you’d realise that it was just pure luck that it even got as close as he did with his arbitrary method. And all he said about the balance point and swingweight being off (346 vs 350) was something along the lines that “I’m not sure that’s fixable”. LMAO. Happy for you that you’re able to customise your own sticks rather than have to rely on “experts” like him. However, spare a thought for the poor sod paying him money for such an inept service. Also the Wilson Pro Staff that Roger Federer is using in Roland Garros 2021 has the Wilson logo on the grip in white and version 13 has the logo in black this means he is using V11 or a special version.
