Owning both Harley and Hondas, i do love my Hondas a little more then my Harley, THAT being said, i have to say nothing really beats that sound from a Harley, nothing really matches that. I've heard a few Yamahas that sounded pretty close and REALLY good, but that sound of a Harley is hard to beat. I do love the new Rebel line. I'm not dissing the sound, it does sound good, and this bike is on my list of bikes to buy if i ever won the lotto. To kinda reiterate my point, a new Mustang sounds clean and good, and it's obviously faster then an old one, but nothing beats the sound from a fox body that's been cammed, and modded, although no where NEAR the HP of a newer one, but the old fox body 5.0s just sounded mean.

Had a Buell XB12 for a few years now, paid $3500 about 8 years ago or so. Put 30kmi on it, loved it, got sick of the riding position, want a more sportster riding position, loved the engine on the buell, I bought me a 883 with low mi for $4k, figured I would save my money up and convert it to a 1200 and have fun with the wide variety of customization options out there. I knew the suspension on sportsters was not that good but the more i ride this bike the more bothered by it I am, my buell had really good suspension, plenty adjustable, the price for good suspension on a sportster is up there, for me to do basic upgrades plus 1200kit and suspension on my initial $4k investment we are getting up about $9k area, the more I look at the Rebel 1100 the more I kind of want one! basic exhaust and tuner mod, oh yeah, this bike is looking better and better! and for the price I may have been better off just buying a new Rebel 1100!!!

Add a pair of Burley shocks in the near and it changes the whole feel. If I remember correctly, mine were just over 200 bucks
@justingillette82872 жыл бұрын
@@tylerwalsh7587 thanks for the recommendation. Since this post, i have afforded the 1200 conversion kit. now the bike can half get out of its own way, at least by Harley standards. I have been chopping the bike up and enjoying every minute of it. I am stripping all the parts I do not need, speedometer, mirrors, turn signals, belt shrouding, exhaust heat shielding, I ground the paint off and intend to let it rust over a bit before I attempt to clear coat it, I have also managed a jockey shift/suicide clutch set up that has been a lot of fun, so far I have not crashed but I have had many stalls in crowded intersections!!! I am getting better at it. i also fabricated up two rigid strut bars and replaced my factory rear shocks with them, I lowered the rear almost 4 inches by doing this, I really like the stance now but if it dragged around every corner before I really does now. Compared to the OEM rear shocks, rigid mounting the bike is almost an improvement honestly. I put 1in spacers under the fork springs to add some preload that has really helped but it needs thicker oil to be sure. I also welded on some fittings to the side of the fuel tank and installed a clear hose between them for a fuel level sight glass function. I need to get a chain conversion kit so I can gear the bike up higher, with the OEM ratios its fine up to about 60mph but the bike just screams above that. Be nice to get it to do 70-80mph and not be wrapped out! At this point with all of my maverick mechanic antics and the wide variety of aftermarket support that exists for the Sportster it is hard to want a Honda Rebel 1100. I really like what that bike is but the ability for me to mold my sportster into so many different configurations so easily is really fun! Expensive but fun!

I can't stand any type of low mirror that is out of the way like that. I want to be able to see in my mirrors and who is around me easily at all times, not having to look way down at a mirror. I’ve never owned a Harley myself. I’ve owned almost all Hondas. And I can say that while that aftermarket exhaust makes the bike sound good for a Honda, it definitely doesn’t sound better than a Harley. Not by the sound, the tone and especially the volume. A nice Harley V-twin with an aftermarket exhaust sounds better than any motorcycle to my ears. Honda motorcycles Are a great value, you get more for your dollar. They give you more amenities in the base model making them safer and more comfortable than a base model Harley. You have to pay for upgrades and add-ons for a Harley to have the same extras. That being said, safety and comfort are important, probably more important, but they don’t equal exciting.

@lena19191 Жыл бұрын
Not a silly question , I expect you would get water in the system if left for months . Worst case scenario you may get a cup of water over night in heavy rain . As soon as you start up in the morning the water would blow out on seconds . Most motorcycles are kept in a garage and dry . I feel the worry about water getting in is soon out weighs the cool sound the bikes makes and is stored in your garage anyway . Also you can use a plastic bag to protect the end if your really concerned. Ride safe

@@wrongthinker350 Technically yes because the 1100 has a speed governor which artificially limits the top speed to 100 mph. It's not something Honda advertises but it's there and has been demonstrated by Rebel 1100 owners in a few KZbin videos. It also angers a lot of owners.

@@tinman3586 I'm sure the 1100 accelerates faster though.

Appreciate you being honest about the mirror

The muffler is ok, but that horrible one sided mirror arrangement has to go. The bike looked so much better with the original retro mirrors. It's just tasteless now.

So, Everytime you need to use the side mirror, you have to release your hand from the handle bar? To me, that's a bad location for the mirror, if not the worst. Not to mention, good luck on splitting lanes.

1:37 please watch a video on why "back pressure" is bad and something that you dont want. Because you might just use the wrong terminology for what you actually mean. My recommendation would be the video from Engineering Explained.

I know you guys said the bike ran funny with no muffler how was it with the Vance and Hines in comparison do you think it would still need a tune to run it ?

Sooo is it a cruiser a sport bike / naked sport ??? Im confused? It sounds like a liter bike with a performance exhaust. Any hoot I'm about to pull the trigger on this bike!!

I prefer using a Honda everyday instead of waisting $ on repairs & a "engine soundtrack" ...but tastes are different for everyone, I can understand the appeal etc Stay safe dude ✌

@@mordicus420 no doubt, when it comes to daily, I only trust the Japanese with keeping my ride alive and kicking. Harleys for me are more hobby things, stuff you take out on a relaxed ride on some scenic highway

So what pipe sounds grumbly and still leaves room for some bags? Radiant has a low cost shorty that sounds mean with plenty of room, but to me, it doesn't look very good.

So you overpay for the mirrors and they arent even a plug and play? I know you dont care about bastardizing your bikes, but Im not breaking my angle grinder just to chop up my stock bike just because I want a style change on one unconsequential component.
