I remember when I was 11 years old and I started working out, back in Cuba. Many people used to say that weight lifting was bad for you. They also said that too much protein was bad, fat was bad, sugar was good. I used to eat a lot of sugar 😂😂😂however I never stop working out. Now at 49 I love working out. I’m happy to hear all this information. So glad I found Gabrielle videos and this one with Lewis.

I'm a 62 year old female in great shape; strong, good muscle tone, low fat, healthy, tireless and never ill. Today I've had 104 grams of protein: 2.2 grams of Isoleucine; 4.1 grams of leucine; 2.6 grams of valine. I don't eat beef or pork; today I've had mackerel, eggs and chicken as well as field peas, okra, tomatoes, summer squash, onions, etc from my garden. I'm told so very often that I look like I'm in my 40's and I can wear really awesome clothes. Love having my arms out!

@Delphine Kirkland Glad to hear that, it is very easy to ascribe all one's good fortune to our own talents and abilities. This is a delusion on our part as the totality of our being has a source and unless we are claiming that we created ourselves (a contradiction in terms) it isn't us. In this age of materialism and its natural ally egotism people seem to think they are authors of their destiny, masters of their fate.

@Atiph Wyne Everything in my life is a co-creation between me and my source, that I take care to connect with moment by moment. The source of my vitality and wellbeing is clear to me. The difference between a dead body and a living, thriving being is clearly that spark that some call God. I don't need schooling on that. I know well where my abundant life force comes from. My life has been filled with blessings . I appreciate the wisdom I receive and give thanks for it before my feet hit the ground every day.

Great advice from Dr Lyon 👍 My great grandmother lived to be over 100 and was mobile and living independently up until the last year of her life. I loved listening to this lady !! Thank you, finally someone not demonising meat. Having a auto immune disease I have been on a roller coaster ride of unlearning and relearning how to eat. Got to the point where I did not want to eat as was so confused and fed up. Her passion and information is amazing. I have always eaten meat. never red meat though until this year. It is about time people stop feeling guilty for being meat eaters. I love animals and do feel bad but my meat comes from local farms or butchers which keeps those family/ small independent businesses going. Seeing celebs now pushing the bug agenda and fake meat agenda is awful and so depressing. I live in Italy and there is no way I see this catching on.....fingers crossed.

This is something that you simply feel as truth when you compare how you feel when you eat certain foods and when you train in a certain way.. Trying out things brings you to the truth so no trends or people can manipulate you really if you just listen to your own truth (some can speak your truth so you can relate) ..Muscle training via resistance training and cardio trainings for cardio vascular harmony, nutrition protein and plant based.. Eat what you feel is right and real.. That doesn't make you feel heavy and bad, and its also about the size of portions.. Move and have energy filled life.. Also other habits need to be in harmony with these eating habits next to training: training your mind, your spiritual soul level awareness, knowing who you are, having a true and healthy self image, setting intentions when eating and training and doing other habits and actions that move you toward your life goals with flow and ease as is in your vortex.

My instinct is that over long periods of time humans living under various conditions and regions adapted diets and lifestyles fitted for life as they found it. Through family and group structures passed down and adapted through feedback loops. So in India, let's say they ate a lot of dairy with vegetables and grains and spices. Let's say in Italy it was a lot of wine, olive oil veggies pasta and cheese with some meat. In Arctic regions, whole sea mammals who ate sea plants. Etc.. also, probably groups adapted genetically able to live healthily on these different food systems. Also, let's not forget the group or family and social belonging in sharing food and rituals. Enjoying the dining experience. I will even throw out there, in cooking, love out into the food. I can remember the days when mother's were in charge of all of this. People sat down for at least two meals a day and talked. This gives a sense of well-being that when it's missing, might be difficult to diagnose as a loss. I have relative who regularly pick up fast food and pizza for there kids every day. They never knew regular family cooked meals. They were raised with fast food themselves. Let's say sitting down with family kind of tends to slow down how quickly we consume food, it has more time to digest. Also, mother's tended to understand what foods should be in the table. Always had fermented foods. Fresh vegetable, meat, a starch. There were three meals, no real snacking. Even more than the food issue alone, the whole time regulation for many aspects of life. Bedtime was pretty set. No TV, no Telefone, reading etc after certain hours. Everybody was on the same page then for seasons and holidays. Now, it's like we each carry our own little oxygen tanks of supplies, like bottled water, vitamins and snacks like we are astronauts in the moon.

Yes I agree, there is no One size fits all diet. According to where you live, humans adapted with what they had handy, Indians are mostly vegetarians and Inuits are mostly carnivores... but what they have in common is that they were physically involved to get their food, for fruit picking, harvesting, raising animals and/or fishing/hunting etc. And that is what she is right about, we need to move more to be healthier in general. And eat REAL food, plant or animal, not processed food.

I'd be interested on her perspective on how much protein the body can absorb on OMAD. Currently on OMAD with a red meat focus. Can the body absorb and use 200 g of protein if eaten in one sitting?
@sirwalksoftly
@sirwalksoftly 2 жыл бұрын
There’s a study out there that shows upwards of 35-40g at one sitting is excess and the body doesn’t utilize it. Search “ncbi brad schoenfeld protein 35g”

I think the muscle sparing factors of fasting and the satiation factors of high protein are in your favour. I wouldn't worry about how much can be absorbed if your trying to lose weight which I'm guessing you are? You do need to keep lifting heavy and intense though.

Fasting does protect muscle. Autophagy and ketogenic energy substantially protects lean muscle, utilizes fat for energy and cleans up damaged or disfunctional cells also for energy. Muscle is the bodies last call for energy whilst fasting.

I've come to this conclusion myself recently. As I age I concentrate most on maintaining muscle mass. Muscle sometimes it seems gets a bad rap. People say things like " I don't want to be muscle bound " and the like but when you look at older people in general what's the first thing you notice is how frail they look. You need to maintain physical strength first and foremost just to "exist" in a physical world. So I concentrate on muscle mass, blood flow and reducing inflammation most.

Dr Gundry mentioned on a episode that meat from beef, lamb, and pork has a different sugar molecule that our bodies don’t carry and cancer cells/genes use that specific sugar molecule from those meats to hide from our immune system. Pastured raised chicken is a better alternative along with wild caught fish shrimp, mussel, scallops, etc. As far as protein amounts there was another study showing that 20-30 grams of protein was all we need for protein synthesis. Any more than that the body will turn the extra protein into glucose and store as fat.

I had not completely viewed this podcast to the end. However from what i have deduced you speaker is saying we need muscles to live a good quality of life. I am 70 years old and i weight 80kg ans is on the heavy side. I mostly eat carbohydrates once a day. I have always been what people call plum or shapey. I have tethered on the edge of having diabetes and it on both sides of my heritage. I am flexible and can always push my weight. I also had a very bad injury and pulled out my right thigh bone. This resulted in making the right thigh heaving as it was not being well supported because of the injury. My dr did listen to me when i told her i needed a chiropractor. However i never kept still and walked even for short spurts and would have to rest. I felt off a 8ft ladder in my garden and not do any injury to self with the exception of a strained left shoulder. This was painful for a few nights. I did not tell my husband until the day after. I also fell off my steps on the back of the verandah . There are no rails and i was changing out of my dirty shoes into a clean one before going into the house. I forgot that the step was thst broad. Felt backwards and felt there was nothing i could do to stop so i went with the flow. I found myself sliding down as if on a slide. I got to the bottom on my stomach with both hands out stretched. I had i grazed inside my wrist a small scrape on the same hand further up. It ached for a few days nd i came to realize that i had grazed the palm and it was scraped leaving a little flesh. This i only realized when i washed my hand with rubbing alcohol. First was last 1/4 of last year and the other not long after. My view is i managed both because of the muscle/fat i have on my body. If not i might have already died from either as might gave broken a none or 2. I walk most days even when i have pain and rest in between if and when i need to. I dance. do a manner of leg lift etc. Community say there is nothing wrong with me. Some young one say ms g. Is 20 years old. Thanks very much for this video.

I'm on 18/6 basically skipping breakfast, eat 12pm, 3pm, 5:30pm. L: 3 eggs in butter, handful walnuts + small square dark choc, natto (29g protein). Snack: Can sardines, sauerkraut, milk (22g protein), D: varies - meat + veg, yogurt & berries (protein 40g?). I would find it tough to raise my protein above my current consumption yet I'm not even meeting her minimum. Of course whey would help, but I prefer whole foods. Whey just seems so processed.

Before blindly following what anybody is promoting I do my own research, I went to 1st Phorm website and saw a lot of fluffy words with no real content, I then emailed and asked if their whey protein comes from grass fed cows and they responded “no” I also asked if they a plain flavor because there’s so many weird flavors on their site and again they said “no”so I’m gonna pass on this protein.

Also interesting she’s going by 1940s studies. I’ve read a lot of books and listen to a lot of people say that the human body is evolving so that we process protein differently as we’ve been evolving so you can’t really go by the past. And that we don’t need as much protein as we once thought we did because the human body is changing.

I love building muscles and it's giving me the most balanced and beautiful body I've ever had. But I feel so much better on a plant-based diet, it has helped me achieve my best state of health Every Time and now it's helping to clean up my arteries. I'm currently doing a flexitarian thing, where I'll strive to give myself whey protein, but the rest is a plant-based diet. Hopefully it will help continue to power my bodybuilding. Because I need both healthy arteries and muscle to achieve my desired outcomes.

Dear Dr Lyon , you compared chicken vs quinua. America ( the continent) never knew of chicken , eggs, beef, milk , etc for a loooong time until Europeans arrived and their people were highly intelligent, strong and developed kingdoms. The diet in the Andes used to be basically quinua and potatoes and some animal protein. Quinua is said to have all aminoacids as far as I know. So how come 6 cups of quinua equals some grams of chicken? thanks for the great info.
