I was on an antibiotic for 3 days due to a tooth infection. Got a really terrible case of C-Diff- scared the hell out of me. Had 4-5 different types of antibiotics to cure the C-Diff. Was the worst 4 months of my life. I am so paranoid about taking antibiotics now. Dread the day I need them. Take the gut biome seriously- doctors should do more to warn all patients..

Ever since I learned about the microbiome, I’m reluctant to take anything at all. Every once in a while, I need some Claritin for my severe allergies, Neproxin for period cramps or an NSAID for a bad headache, but I will suffer to some extent beforehand and see if I can get through without anything. I just went through a sinus infection with as little meds as I could muster, but it’s tough to avoid relief sometimes.

Mayo Clinic study found that having patients take kefir at least 3x/day while on antibiotics (but not at same time of day) reduced the incidence of C-Diff. I am currently on 12-hour augmentin and taking it a 8a and 8p. So I drink kefir when I wake up at about 3:30a, again about 11a, then again about 3p. Will also drink kefir if I'm still up at 10p. Following what the infectious specialist doctor advised.

When I was in my early 30s, various doctors put my on three weeks of antibiotics. My doctor put me on a week of antibiotics. Then he went on holiday, and I was referred to another doctor. The medicin didn't cure during that week, and the second put me on the same antibiotics for one more week. I was still not cured. The second doctor had also gone on vacation now, so I was referred to a third doctor, who said I shouldn't have gotten more of the first AB, when it didn't work in the first place. She gave me another AB which helped somewhat ... or was it my body that took care of things after three weeks? Before that, I was sick like every two or three years, and I had taken no ABs for at least two decades. I never got back to that level of illness resistance again. Now, I'm in my late 40s.

@@gtm5650 🙂I'm in no way against doctors going on vacation. I do feel the second doctor may have just rushed me through the office instead of actually treating me, though.

No one talks about thrush. Or fermented foods and obviously you want to avoid sugar because that feeds yeast which often fills in for the microbiome goodies that we lose doctors

Antibiotics do not kill of *everything*. Most are targeted to aerobic and anaerobic and some more targeted. But I would expect all impact the gut to some extent. Take a good low-sugar, high-protein yogurt while taking any antibiotics.

Good pushback. Eat "less fat" lacks any nuance. Attia and Lugavere both in my feed this morning discussing gut health - 2 days before the most unhealthy I eat all year! Definitely going to try and incorporate some fermented foods into my diet soon though.

I have to take them every time I go to the dentist
@heidikamrath1951
@heidikamrath1951 4 ай бұрын
Probably not. Please revisit this. If you are taking them for MVP prophylaxis, they are no longer required. Even if taking for artificial joints: no longer required. Still required if you’ve had a surgical repair of your heart. Check the ADA (American Dental Association) guidelines. This is old news, but sooooo many physicians and dentists play the CYA card not realizing the effects all these antibiotics can have on the gut micro biome. If my patients tell me they need to prophylax with an antibiotic, I print out the ADA guidelines for them and ask them to take that to their physician to have the physician prescribe the antibiotics if he/she insists. I’m a dentist licensed in the US.

@MrStreetninja007 bugger! Your other comment, being a 'body builder' in the gym scene, potentially other things are exacerbating the acne flare ups 🤔🤷‍♀️ Definitely when you feel ready, intermittent, long fasts, carnivore or paleo/keto to clear and reset the gut after years of it being out of whack, would be a good path to look into 👌

Eat WFPB, high fiber foods, fruit, veg, whole grains, NOT deer jerky. Look at the research yourself Attia. It’s out there. Or interview Drs. Klaper, Greger, Bulsiewicz, Barnard, or Davis. Stop promoting things you don’t know about (diet/nutrition); you’re misleading people.
