Hi, can you enter the Vatican, and St. Peter’s wearing sandals? . Thank you ✨
@Romewise3 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely! You can and should wear the most comfortable shoes you have, because you will do a lot more walking than you might think. Sandals are fine, but I suggest you wear sturdy, comfortable sandals. Jeans, t-shirts are all fine. Modesty is key.

Quick question on Backpacks. Would you recommend having a backpack? Concerns that come to mind: Will you be spotted and checked before entering a building? Could you be denied entrance into a building with a backpack? Do thieves target people who have backpacks? As always, Thank you for all that you do. I have been watching a lot of your videos.
@Romewise7 ай бұрын
Actually, the only way I go around Rome (I live here) is with a backpack. First of all, a backpack is better for my back. Second of all, it allows me to have both hands free for picture taking, drinking water, etc. I wear a normal-sized backpack, and I don't have any that are cross-body or specifically pickpocket-proof. I just close them up completely before putting them on. Regarding monuments - you are allowed in with "normal-sized backpacks - the size students wear to school is probably the maximum size allowed. Regarding pickpockets - There is way more hype and fear online than what exists in real life. Certainly for anyone who has been pickpocketed, it's traumatic. But if you use common sense and are vigilant and not distracted, you will likely not become a target. I've lived here since 2001 and I've never once been pickpocketed. Hope that helps!

weird question - not doubting - just wondering do you wrap the scarf around your shoulders... seems like you'd need a long scarf.
@Romewise Жыл бұрын
It's not a weird question. I am talking about a fairly normal scarf that you can wrap around your neck but yes, also around your shoulders in a shawl-type fashion. This is not an unusually-sized scarf. I have scarves of varying size but with pretty much all of them, I can use wrap them around my shoulders. Or at least drape them, which is all you really need if you are entering a church.

Do you throw your water bottle in a bag? Or do you just hold the water bottle?
@Romewise7 ай бұрын
I walk around Rome with a backpack and I keep my bottle there most of the time. I like to keep hands free. But if I am somewhere and find myself super thirsty or really hot, I might keep it in my hands for a bit. It really depends.

Low ac in places so it doesn’t feel like winter indoors? Sign me up!! I hate how high the ac is in the US!
@Romewise7 ай бұрын
Since moving here in 2001, I've grown so accustomed to low-level a/c and now when I am in the US, I can't stand how cold places are inside - I also feel like it's a huge waste for the environment - it only needs to be cold enough to not be hot. But I think that's just the way it is and I know to bring sweaters with me when I visit the US in summer!

Great video. DONT WEAR FLIP FLOPS! Here is why: 1 - you’re telling people you’re American, and will get ripped off. 2 - it’s bad for your feet and knees, don’t wreck your feet in these European cobblestones. 3 - you’re in a city with the richest culture. Show some respect. 4 - why wear flip flops in a country known for their shoe craftsmanship? That’s like wearing shorts in a church. Don’t do it.
@Romewise3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and for your comments. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree it is not a good idea to wear flip flops, at least not flimsy ones. My main reason for this is simply because they are not sturdy enough for the kind of walking one tends to do in Rome. I've seen quite a few flip-flop carcasses around Rome in hot months...which means someone was walking around with a bare foot. Definitely a way to put a damper on your sight-seeing day! Sturdy, comfortable shoes, no matter the season, are the way to go!
