great video. I am looking to paint a single rad which has never been painted, It has the original factory paint on it. Do I need to put undercoat on it first, after rubbing down?
@PaintingandDecorating9 жыл бұрын
+Mick Jones Yes always undercoat even put a metal primer on any metal or rust first. One coat stuff is no good. Thanks Mick.

You didn't paint the fins between the front and back panels? Any reason? Too tricky? Any suggestions?
@PaintingandDecorating3 жыл бұрын
All depends how bad they look but you can paint what you can see. Have painted them before and it takes time. Thanks

I first cleaned radiator then sanded all visible areas including underneath edge I then painted all areas with hammerite radiator paint My question is I can switch off individual radiators using thermal control knob but the hallway small radiator nearest to boiler just has a small manual knob which when turned off seems to cut all radiators off which being in midf of winter I don't need nd obviously you can't run radiators when you have just put a layer of gloss on a radiator just have to hope heating doesn't come on in night
@PaintingandDecorating5 жыл бұрын
As long as you apply your paint when the rad is cool should not be a problem. Give it half an hour should be ok to turn on your heating low to dry it off fast.

Keep the videos coming. I am not a fan of water based glosses either. How long are u finding the dulux trade pure brilliant white gloss is staying white for these days?
@PaintingandDecorating9 жыл бұрын
+Stuart McIntosh It's a lot better at present find it very good. And things need painting nearly every 5 years to be hygienic.

+Painting and Decorating I must give it a go. I have been back and forth recently from Crown Trade and Johnstones Professional oil based gloss but used Dulux Trade recently and liked it a lot . What is your favourite primer for painting over stained/varnished woodwork ?
@PaintingandDecorating9 жыл бұрын
Stuart McIntosh Zinsser Bin primer is very good.

I am looking to paint some radiators with rust on top...what's the best tips ...primer ? if so what sort ?...thanks ..good vid
@PaintingandDecorating8 жыл бұрын
Sand the rad down and then you can use a white metal primer made for the use on ferrous metals.

+Painting and Decorating great stuff ta for that ...ive been looking online and is it worth/easier to spray paint them?..as you can get radiator spray cans online ...?
@PaintingandDecorating8 жыл бұрын
Personally I've never sprayed one. Spray is hard to get a good finish and really you have to mask up the whole area unless you take the rad off. You can get a great finish with a brush and cutting in the parts where you don't what to get paint is easy. Nothing ever blocks up with a brush unlike spraying, even when I was an apprentice I never saw a radiator sprayed. We had spray equipment but was hardly used unless something special was being applied e.g. portaflex or fire protection products. It's cheaper to buy a tin of radiator paint and a brush.

+Painting and Decorating ok ill take that on board...thanks again ...just the stupid bloke who had the house before us has painted the radiators BLACK... yes black so need to paint them quickly and asap...

its got to be cheaper to buy a new radiator .
@Engineer97367 жыл бұрын
One can of paint is 20 euros. I think one radiator exceeds that price 5 times. Then you have to disconnect the radiator, and be careful not to spill the very dirty water on the floor since you will not get it off again. Then reconnect the new one, hoping the couplings don't need to be changed, and fill it up again, bleeding the air out. I don't think your comment has much chance of being true.
@madeinuk686 жыл бұрын
grunter1000 Are you a millennial by any chance. I am guessing so,from your ridiculous suggestion. The radiator obviously still works fine. Would you take your car to the scrap yard if you got a puncture also.
@jamesm5296 жыл бұрын
Just buy a new radiator... it's much easier and cheaper.
