Hey Sped! Practicing repetitiously has been helping me with the lead solo. Also, breaking it into sections helps keep it in perspective for me, just like you shared. Thanks for your perfectionism in all your lessons. You’re exceptionally good at what you do. Cheers, Aloha!!
@Frankincensedjb1235 жыл бұрын
I’m glad you say this is the way you play it. I think people get too caught up on playing it right to the lead in the album. Even Jimmy doesn’t play it the same as the album in concert. I play it mostly as you do, slightly different, but that’s rock ‘n roll. Good job teaching.

Geez Sped, talk about Whoppers, this solo is one helluva wham-bam and pop to the jaw! You describe Jimmy as being angular, and this one is absolutely an angular solo. It makes you take the solo bit by bit, and maintain a level of concentration and "hold on tight, this is a bumpy ride"! Super lesson Sped, you took it very patiently and spoke in a calming tone , while givin sage advice and reminders of other Zep tunes , etc. Gotta take this one in 3 stages as far as I see it. Once again , you gave a great tutorial. Peace brother.

actually, I can't even play the guitar except of the e minor chord...I play piano. But this video helped me a lot. I also try to cover, learn and play songs that aren't using or consisting of piano playing. Basically, I often cover guitar rock songs because I have the freedom to reinvent and jam the piece through because no one can say that it doesn't sound similar. I am learning In my Time Of Dying right now, and Black Dog as well, both are pure guitar songs. The problem is that I so can't rely really on notes, and also don't like to read them. so I look up such guitar tutorials to learn the song. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks!

I’ve got a Led Zeppelin lyric and chord songbook and it shows a slightly different way of playing the beginning part of the riff on the A and D strings as 0-2 3x, then 0-4 2x, then 02 1x then 0-5 1x. Instead of 0-4 3x then the 0-5. I play it like you play it but was curious which is the way Jimmy actually played it?
@wolfendoom72695 жыл бұрын
How do you get a tone that close?
@hapahapahappy2 жыл бұрын
Damn, you are a godsend dude. It's always been my dream to play this solo and you seriously teach it perfectly! I do wanna ask something that's been troubling me though: I've been practicing the solo for many weeks now but every single time i practice it, my entire left hand (my hand on the fret) aches with incredible pain. I notice it gets a lot worse when I'm doing the bends in the solo, like the pain starts on the finger doing the bend and then spreads throughout my whole hand. This will happen after practicing it for like 5 or 10 minutes and gets so bad that I literally can't play. This kind of worries me and makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong with my fret hand or worst case scenario, I have some kind of carpel tunnel syndrome in my left hand that is causing this pain (I *really* hope it's not the latter). Or is it normal to feel intense pain like this even though I've been practicing it for weeks?
@SpedSpedding2 жыл бұрын
I have similar issues. I mention in my Tea For One video recently. There’s a lot of bends in this one so too much practice might fatigue. You wanna lay off and recover for a while. Also, what guitar and string gauge are you using? I’ve dropped down to 9s across everything pretty much. I don’t care for anything other than comfort now. ❤️
@hapahapahappy2 жыл бұрын
@@SpedSpedding thanks for the advice man! I'm not entirely sure what my guitar is, it's a crappy cheap hollowbody that says "Delta King" and "Oscar Schmidt by Washburg" on the top of it. And as far as the string gauge goes, I'm not entirely sure either, (I've never really changed them, it was given to me by a friend a couple years ago) I'd say they're not really light but not heavy either, if I were to guess I'd say it's somewhere in between but a little more on the heavy side gauge-wise. Sorry I'm not very knowledgeable about this kind of stuff I'm kind of an amateur when it comes to guitar tech or stuff like that. So, in regards to practicing, would you recommend taking a break as soon as my fret hand starts aching or just keep going through the pain for about 10 minutes and then take a break? Edit: just wanted to say, I practiced this solo for about an hour today and there's barely, if any, aching in my fret hand!! If this continues to be the case this will be a *huge* deal because I've been playing guitar for 12 years and every single time I practiced any song with bending my fret hand would ache like hell.

5:57 I always played it 10 x10,10,10,10. It sounds more "junkier" to me :) But you need to hit that chord precise. Hard to explain but it's like ZZ-Top's Manic Mechanic intro chord. You just have to play around with it until you get it right. But that's just my two cents :) And yes, you grab that low E with your thumb.
