there's a fourth option for when a player gets eliminated- the player continues playing, but they can't win so they either act as a force of chaos or towards a draw. than a fifth option of the player that eliminated the other player taking over the eliminated players pieces.

"Pawns not being able to going backwards" means that the two diagonal arimies can only go towards white or to the other diagonal army, so only 2 directions to move with their pawns. Going the third direction is going backwards, technically. White doesn't have that issue and has more movement options then the other two, making it unfair.

what if the pawn went to the left of the red pawn. there were 2 pathes to go there. would red still be able to capture?

All jokes aside, the graphic design on the back of the box is really something else. It's completely wrong by most design standards, but the nostalgic factor is too strong to deny.
