I have been playing guitar for 40 + years. These are the best guitar lessons I have ever seen from an absolute master of the art. The very fact he doesn't show his face and is always pointing out he only attempting to show you a representation of his take on a song proves he is natural educator and a genuinely nice person. My sons both in university also use your lessons to improve their playing. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your efforts to share your knowledge.

Andy, been playing this one for years so haven’t looked this up on your channel before. Gratifyingly by some miracle my version is near identical to yours. One trick I do differently is to turn the capo upside down and put it over 5 strings only, leaving the low E string free. This gives the effect of dropped D tuning but in the key of E. A great trick for quite a few songs. You can then choose to let the low E ring at appropriate times which adds an extra dimension when singing along. I know it’s not as per the recording and we are so grateful for you taking the trouble to get all the songs down perfectly. Just thought some of your viewers might like this. Have a great Christmas.

Andy, I first picked up a guitar around 17 years old, played on and off over the years sometimes going a decade or more without touching it. Just life, you know. I'm 53 now and your videos have helped inspire me to keep playing and learn more and more songs. I'm probably a beginning intermediate rhythm player, and getting better everyday thanks to you and a few others elsewhere online. I just wanted to drop you a line thanking you for your hard work and dedication. I've been an avid fan of good music of any genre, but mostly classic rock - I grew up in the 70's after all - and I must tell you what a fantastic, accurate, badass guitar player you are. Thanks man

Hey, Andy. Haven't checked out your tutorials in a while but just dropped-in for a quick look/listen. First impression? The f... awesome production value of your upload. As usual, your tutorials never cease to blow me away when I've been binging on another channel. I'm talking about the sheer quality of your recordings. Then, there's the incredibly precise execution of the songs in your intro demos. Followed by your detailed explanations sprinkled with really interesting trivia related to the song. Man, I only started playing seriously this year and I think your Rain Song tutorial (still haven't opened the file, by the way. Have it as a reference) was the one that made me believe I could get an interesting sound out of my old (and neglected) shitbox of a guitar. Now I play dozens upon dozens of songs, in both standard and alternate tunings, and have at least 2 hours of pure enjoyment to eagerly look forward to at the end of every working day (more on weekends). Can't thank you enough, man!

Today someone told me he thinks it sounds better on the last measure of verse (eg "she once had me) by strumming a C shape with A3, open G, A2, then back to D shape. After looking at this lesson again, I think it's much easier, and sounds perfect, by doing as shown here: keeping the D shape throughout, and plucking A3, open G, A2, and then D shape.

I don't know where you got the quote that Lennon was angry. There's a version of the recording of this song where you hear the lead up to the intro and Lennon has to do it three times because he can't get it right. You can hear him say calmly, "I cannot do it. I cannot do it".

I am also 62 and like Gabriel Adler, I love buying guitars and playing. Try to work on something every day. It gets easier. Watching these tutorials by Andy is actually what got me interested in playing again. Best wishes!

Thank you so much for sharing your talent, you are an extraordinary teacher. However, whenever I try to play the melody along with the strumming, it either comes out garbled and harsh or completely separated. In other words, the melody and strumming don't melt together as when you play. Perhaps you know why? Am I playing wrong or could it just be my guitar/strings?
@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials9 жыл бұрын
Haleema Demir Hey Haleema, well it could be a lot of things, but most likely it's technique. Playing guitar is not easy, but it always comes down to really listening to the sound you're making and trying to play clean. The best way is play really slow, I mean REALLY slow! Only as fast as you can do it perfect, and then gradually speed up, whether that's over a period of an hour, a day, a week, a month, or a year, it really doesn't matter. In fact lets' just leave time out of it entirely, and say to only play anything as fast as you can play it perfectly! Hope that helps. cheers
