Thanks for the video. I'm over 50 and trying to make sure I don't injure myself. I've been doing a slow week to week progression of adding minutes and decreasing rest. Your set of videos is really helping, and I'm considering getting the basic set of handles and 1/4 lb rope, and then going from there.

I’m 71. Have been active most of my life. Wanted to incorporate a cardio with my bowflex routine. Something other than running. Have broken both ankles and have had both knees scoped so wanted something a little more moderate for my cardio. Watched some jrd videos and was hooked. First just cut a length of rope at 9 fr., and started. About a month in bought a 1 lb. cross rope and have been using it on an old throw rug for about 2 months. This last week, after a workout session one knee started bothering me and within an hour I couldn’t put any weight on it. Almost back pain free but not going to start again until I get an adequate pad. I’ve learned over the years, pain is not fun so I’m experiencing a little set back.

Very helpful advice. Just started jumping and watched you beginners tutorial. Jumping 5 minutes every other day getting the basic bounce down and the feel of 1/2 pound rope. My goal is 30 minutes but not rushing it. Enjoying the journey.

Hi Dave, Thank you. Has anyone told you that you certainly are brilliant :-) of course they have. Thank you. I am just going to convey to all my (old) friends, that I am getting into my 'second childhood' and am therefore training to skip rope again:-) Sincerely hope I can get into a more strenuous mode soon. I will keep a record of my starting HR and note same at various stages, FitBit Blaze which will be useful. Thanks again. It is 5.21 pm here in Bangkok, which part of the US are you in? btw I do have 'Gel Inner Soles' in my Li-Ning shoes.

I think I went too fast too quick too ..and developed a tight quad that keeps going into spasm...can you give me any tips please on how to resolve this so I can get back to jumping rope again
@Crossrope6 жыл бұрын
If you're new to jumping, limit yourself so you don't strain your legs or back. Foam rolling and stretching should help, and jumping on a mat will protect your joints. See more tips here: blog.crossrope.com/how-to-avoid-injury-when-jumping-rope/

Thanks a lot I’m not new to jumping but unfortunately have a bad habit of not stretching beforehand and that coupled with going too hard too quick without any other cross training was not a good combo...but I’m feeling better can’t wait to get back to it !!

The best thing to do is to let your body recover completely from your injury. I had the same problem and had to spend a month without running and jumping, after that I started again from 0 and slowly

Hi, I have a question am been doing this for almost 2 months and my left foot and knee get swelled every time I do alterne foot and is a shooting pain am been checking a lot of videos to see if what am doing is correct and it looks like my technique is fine, I Bee check my self and a mirror, change diferente shoes and jumping in a soft areas like gym mates. my question is how long will take me to get used to is my leg to weak or this is normal, if any body can help me to answer this question, thank you
@Crossrope7 жыл бұрын
Hi sapomecanico, you may want to check with your doctor at this point. We always recommend jumping n mats as it's easier on your joints and you've already switched shoes. 2 months is a good amount of time to get used to jumping, so we highly recommend you to ask your doctor and see what he says. Also, stretching before and after could help and offer some relief.

Exactly the same happened to me, my advice: take 1 week off, no jumping or running at all. After that; start jumping again but at a maximum of 20 mins per day and don't push much your feet, once you finish your workout put your feet in a big bowl of hot water for 5 mins, it helped me a lot seriously. Be gentle with your feet and take at least 2 days off per week once you are fully recovered.

Hi, Kurugodu. I'm sorry to hear that. Jumping can actually help strengthen your bones. Here's some more info on this: (scenario 2 is most helpful for this): blog.crossrope.com/jumping-rope-vs-running/ As with everything else, please consult with your physician before adding this to your fitness regimen. Best wishes, and hopefully you find something that is beneficial and safe for you to do.

I started jump rope maybe a week now and I don't feel any pain in my ankles/knees/shins but just muscle soreness on my calves and my thighs. Normal?
@Crossrope7 жыл бұрын
Hi SnakeyXT, it's normal for beginners to experience some discomfort. If you haven't jumped rope before, there may be a learning curve. Try jumping for short amounts of time initially and gradually start jumping for longer stretches of time. Also, remember to stretch (get a roller to really stretch out your legs) to minimize the pain. See how to here: blog.crossrope.com/how-to-avoid-injury-when-jumping-rope/. Jumping on a good surface (a mat) will reduce the absorb the shock. Check out our mat here: www.crossrope.com/products/accessories/crossrope-jump-rope-mat/. Lastly, make sure you are jumping with good form. Watching the videos is a great start. Try checking out this post for more help: blog.crossrope.com/how-to-jump-rope/. If the pain persists, you may want to consult your physician for help. Hope that help!

Are those ropes that tough, you're always jumping on cement?
@Crossrope6 жыл бұрын
Yup! Though we recommend jumping on a mat to protect your joints and your ropes.

Hey Dave, I've got this worry, I started jumping like one week ago, I'm literally learning from 0. I've got the "right" shoes, I've watched several (many many) videos for beginners even before starting and I've tried to follow all the recommendations. But now I've got this pain on the sides of my knees (external side of each one), I had to stop because I can't even walk like a normal person due the pain lol. I'm not sure whether it's normal or I'm doing something wrong honestly. But kinda demotivated me to think I have to stop. So I'm taking a rest hoping it the pain vanishes. But I'd like to know from an expert if this is actually normal for a beginner. Great video btw!
