I have suspected that my high doses of Omega 3 DHA and EPA was causing my increasing lipid peroxidation. This discussion may have confirmed my suspicions. And yea my AA is also low and AA/EPA is low. I tried taking E in the form of tocopherol but it wasn’t lowering my lipid peroxidation. Now I am realizing I am not taking enough. I need to stop supplementing with fish oil as well as other pro oxidant supplements and beef up on my antioxidants and hopefully lipid peroxidation will finally start declining. This came to me at the right time!

I really can’t tolerate EPA so this is great info. I think I’ve been focusing too much on the need for pge1 and forgetting that PGE2 is also important.
@aniefro2403 Жыл бұрын
I just read this: “By inhibiting the release of arachidonic acid from cells, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI's) inhibit PGE2 synthesis.” So this means that riboflavin and copper (via adequate vitamin A) are already increasing my arachidonic acid levels by increasing MAO A levels. This in turn makes me more tolerant of calcium and fatty acids. Dumb question - is GLA a source of arachidonic acid? Or is that strictly from meat and eggs and dairy?

As someone with epilepsy, I was diagnosed with hippocampal sclerosis which made me worried about the permanent scarring in my brain. I supplemented up to 3 grams of wild salmon oil every night for two years straight until I finally stopped having seizures 8 months ago. But at that time I also made the switch from oil supplements to a cod liver instead. I think the cod liver has been key in my recovery from epilepsy!! I take it after dinner. The cod liver helps tremendously with hunger-satiation in the evening, allowing me to fast through the night-- key for seizure prevention! Thank you Iris for your awesome question BTW..

I am curious why low arachidonic acid made her intolerant to calcium citrate. I have had to drop acetyl carnitine again as it makes my calcium too low and my fingernails and hair start getting funny along with muscle pain. When kids with autism took Respen A which increases MAO A activity they suddenly had to take large doses of Calcium where previously they could not tolerate even a little bit of calcium or fatty acids. MAO A is a copper riboflavin dependant enzyme and now that I have riboflavin in place everything points to needing more calcium. But Calcium interferes with iron. Learning when and how to space everything.

I've read some people claiming that EPA is easily converted to DHA in the body. But still I'm assuming it's better to just consume DHA if that's what is needed especially when pregnant. I've taken fish oil between 2 to 5 g for 22 years. Sometimes my diet has been low on arachidonic acid. I don't think I've had problems but now that I've cut dairy out for a few months I'm thinking about adding it back or getting some other consistent source of arachidonic acid.

Is anyone still talking about orthorexia? It damages so many people who get fixated on "eating right," which is espoused by the trillion dollar supplement and nutrition industries. I nearly fell prey to it myself in the 2010s, so I know. I was obsessed with what I put in my mouth and had a cabinet full of expensive supplements. I hope Iris can find her way back from that nightmare of disordered eating and not just re-fixate on balancing her fat intakes. After that it will be something else. Please, let's just listen to our bodies that we're so much out of touch with, eat real foods, and enjoy our lives.
@JoshPhoenix11 Жыл бұрын
I haven't seen anyone talking about it. Im sure most people dont know it exists only having heard of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa as the eating disorders. I always use Orthorexia Nervosa as a supporting argument in my Veganism argument. The 2 active/functional forms of B12 being my main argument because its not widely know the B12 blood serum test doesnt test the functional B12 levels and it can even show normal levels of B12 but the functional B12 levels actually be depleted. And the dangers of prolonged B12 deficiency is irreparable brain damage and cognitive impairment. And to make it an unarguable argument I say when you have cognitive impairment in Executive Functioning, depending on the extent you will be unable to even cognize the how serious the issue is of how Veganism is effecting your brain because its been damaged.
