Funny I never thought about this, but it's definitely an issue. Details matter so nice job Tony for bringing it up. I find that if you lightly palm the spool just before the rig hits the water, it holds the weight back while projecting the cut bait or live bait forward, thus allowing the rig to sink as intended, less tangles. Love the Carolina Rig. Great vid!

How about a mono above the swivel with a double uni knot to the braid. I think this helps with tangles

I USE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WIITH MY LINE TWISTING ON MY CAROLINA RIG.I STARTED USING A SHORTER LEADER NO MORE THAN 6-10 INCHES LONG, which took care of the problem. The fish can still pick up the bait with no problem with a sliding sinker,you get longer casts also without alot of leader line.

What size sinker weight do you use?
@Saltstrong6 ай бұрын
This will depend on current speed and depth.

How about a main line to leader knot and put the lead by the hook? So your casting the lead and bait closer so there’s little to no chance of the line doing a helicopter

the problem with this method is that the weight could end up right up on the hook/bait, which isn't a good thing. Thats why the carolina rig has the swivel to make sure the weight doesn't go down all the way. Its really hard to know what really happens under water right at your bait. The rig you described is called the knocker rig, and if the knocker rig could always have the weight a good bit away from the hook, then it would be perfect, but I'm sure this isn't the case. Fish aren't as dumb as we like to think and many will intentionally eat the bait around the hook, and you know having that big ass weight right next to the hook will be sending off 'does not compute' signals to them.
