Showing this one to my wife right now because she's always asking me to massage her upper back! On a separate topic, when I stand for even a few minutes, my lower back gets tight and my knees feel stiff. This goes away quickly with any movement, but are there any tips to alleviate that issue?

This massage therapist is super grateful for all your videos in this recent series (hence an earlier donation) even if massage gets a ‘bad rap’ haha. Have sent links post massage to many clients as it’s a perfect for them to understand and follow - I prefer to educate, empower and encourage rather than have clients rely only on me. Thanks this is perfect! I had scapular dyskinesis on my right shoulder (diagnosed) from what I believe to be caused by an under utilized rhomboid and bad computer posture. It got so bad to the point I got tingles down my back. I went to physical therapy and they focused on a lot of exercises to work out this very muscle group you're showing and THIS IS THE FIX. I don't do rhomboid (these shoulder) exercises as much as I should so I develop dozens of knots behind my shoulder blades. Great video!!! 10/10 more exercises and motivation!

THIS IS THE GREATEST VIDEO EVER!!!!! I’ve had really bad plantar fasciitis for the past 3 years. 1.5 years ago I went to a sports chiropractor who did active release techniques on my calves rather than focusing on my feet like the other unsuccessful podiatrists. It got rid of 90% of my pain, but I still have some nagging pain. I started rolling my back out with a racquetball on the wall and after 4 days of soreness from doing this, I finally noticed woke up feeling some relief😭. Now I’m spending some time doing this on my back, glutes and hips. I’m hopeful to get rid of that last 10% of pain. And I don’t have to pay for $120 appointments! Thank you!

Thanks for this. I signed up to your Back Pain Fix programme a bit over a week ago, and it's really helpful to have these explainer videos about why particular exercise work (initial results are promising) Another exercise for sore between the shoulders that's helped me a lot is holding onto an overhead bar and doing what my teacher called shoulder shrugs (pulling your shoulder blades down to make more space between your arms and your ears.)

@@DaisyNinjaGirl ah.. i see. so, you are pulling against a stationary overhead bar, will definitely give that a try at the gym. meanwhile, i was just playing around with a broom stick, holding it behind my head, varying the angle. wow it really activates the traps and the rhomboids. i think there a similar exercise called "angle wings", in which you move your arms up and down against the wall. but using a bar takes it to a whole different level.
@DaisyNinjaGirl2 жыл бұрын
@@gskyle4822 Yes, like a trapeze or monkey bar (I literally learned this in a circus aerials class, where they were big on shoulder strength and mobility, for obvious reasons.) If you're hands aren't ready to hold your body weight (I wasn't at first), you can partially support yourself with your feet, and when you're ready move to a full body hang. But another warm up they taught us, was hold onto a light stick or theraband with your hands wide, and move it over your head from front to back and back again a few times. They helped me out a lot, when osteopathy and pilates weren't cutting it. ;-)

Sometimes I get a cramp below/next to one shoulder blade, and it can get so bad that when I try to get up after lying down, I black out for a second, like the change in pressure on my spine or something going from horizontal to vertical causes it. @@siddharthraghuwanshi3457 as I alluded to in my comment, I worked on all the main movement patterns for the scapula… so yes the movements in the video but also other stuff. It’s easy just to say “retract your shoulder blades” but unless they’re moving correctly you’re not going to get the same results. So for me, where my scapulae weren’t moving correctly, I’ve had to focus on all the movement patterns (not just retraction) so that I can get everything moving properly on my back… only then will the muscles activate properly and the knots can be resolved, as the video’s exercises are trying to do

@@siddharthraghuwanshi3457 it’s impossible for me to comment on your condition really, and I’m not a personal trainer or anything… all I would say is it’s still possible to do push-ups without stable scapula - I did for 25years. Use mirrors/videorecorder to watch what’s happening on your back; regress the exercise until you can do it with your scapula sliding FLAT against your back - muscles contracting, not just ‘folding over’; be able to do every exercise as slow as possible; once that regression is easy, move to next progression etc etc. This can take months/years. Good luck with it 💪

I don't feel knots between my shoulder blades but there's a point right between the edge of my left shoulder blade and the spine that, when pressed by my doc, feels quite unpleasent. He says that this might be the nerve that's causing periodic pain in my left chest (since my cardiologist says the heart is fine). So I hope this helps. Though, I rarely have pain in my back for the past 10 years but when I have back issues then it's mostly with blocked rib joints that are causing milde to bad intercostal neuralgias and typically they only get better with time passing. Attempts to reset them hardly ever worked.

It feels like maybe something *under* the rhomboid but I have a hard time correlating anatomy drawings to what I'm experiencing. Are there other muscles besides the rhomboids that are worth focusing on for this area? Do you have other videos you would suggest besides this one and the recent two rhomboid videos?
