We have some stuff in our body and mind to release and let go. We are thinking a lot. We cannot release our thinking. We have a lot of emotions, fear, anxieties and stress. Something that stucks in our mind that we can not let it go. This Theme, this exercise can help you to letting go. Every out-breath is to let it go. All exhalation are opportunity for you to let it go. That is our practice. Release or Letting go is the Source of Happiness

Yes we all take in so much information and images into our minds and most don't even realize what this does to us on all levels, especially energetically. Release as you call it in my understanding is an air "kata" that like you said helps to release excessive chi or negative/bad chi, such as excitement, traumas like fear, unwanted emotions like anger, etc. It can be thought of as the bull or kettle letting off steam. The unwanted chi can be "released" or let go of. dispersed into and as the air. Thus it is primarily accomplished through three modes of action. 1. movement, fine movements or gross ones 2. respiration, whether it be through inhalation or skin and 3. attaining some level of clarity or clear headedness where you focus onto movements or your enviroment rather than internally. Access to good clean air is also beneficial because of this and it helps to be outside in nature, around trees and flora, and away from harsh winds or wind shielding (essentially keeping all 4 directions of wind open to you). The opposing "kata" is an Earth kata naturally. this is used for the opposite reason. When we want to hold onto positive chi to "charge" or when we want to process our grief into a positive thing. and channel our losses into strength. We do this through grounding. Which again has 3 primary modes of accomplishment. 1. Internal reflection and understanding our struggles from truthful place, sorting through whatever emotions and attachments we have. Which do we want to confirm, and engrain into? and which do we want to release to let pass? 2. earth grounding, skin contact with mother nature and the material world around us, especially the natural or living. And 3. Blood circulation. exercise. hearty foods and good meals can help too; while fasting can help for air or releasing. I like to incorporate appropriate mantra mudra and dances into practices too! Namaste
