In this video, Tim demonstrates some movements you may be able to use to help your body relieve itself from sciatic pain. Of course, see your doctor first and when he clears you to move, try this.

Windmill stretch helps a lot more than all of the other stretches that Physical Therapists have prescribed over the past several months. Thanks and I wish there was some way to reimburse you for your expertise

Hi Tim! Do you have a movement to stand straight, "open" the rib cage/ the chest when you are stooped, round-shouldered? That's my case and I don't know what exercise to do for that... I hope I'm clear, sorry for my english, I'm french! (Hi from France, and great job!!). Louis

Louis, so sorry for the late reply. Check out the videos on rocking: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWOzXpyvYr5rgJo. Also head nods from the forearms: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnbZg3hoqceSq80. These are great for posture.

Are there rocking movements to work out the back muscles?
@OriginalStrengthSystem
@OriginalStrengthSystem 4 жыл бұрын
Kind of. Holding the head up on the horizon while on all fours helps set the postural curves in our spine as well as reflexively recruit the muscles along our spines to hold this posture. This can certainly help make the back stronger and more resilient.

Thank you for these! Since I've had sciatica for the past 4 months, I'm so missing "rocking" which is my favorite, along with squatting, as they cause the sciatica to flare up. Thinking I can still do them to the "edge" of pain? Off the topic question - I keep alot of tension in my quads & find that my knees are often "locked" when I'm standing for a little while. Any recommendations?

I do think you can still do them to the edge, just don’t cross it! Dissolve it instead, in time. As for your quads, make sure you are breathing deep into your belly when you are standing and use your awareness to check your knees/quads and purposely let go of any tension you may find.

@@OriginalStrengthSystem Pretty crazy, but this is what helped my sciatica greatly - along with alot of self-massage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmXTomN9eMyUqrM. Would love to pick your brain about the whole belly breathing thing. Am a big fan of Katy Bowman, Esther Gokhale, Julie Wiebe (PT), Lauren Ohayon & others who are very specific about rib breathing rather than belly breathing. Still diaphragmatic breathing going on with an emphasis on the movement of the intercostal muscles. Apparently belly breathing is not a great strategy for hernias such as diastasic recti & bladder, etc. prolapse.

Awesome! So glad you found relief! As far as breathing goes, pick away. I can tell you now though, belly breathing is just a term we use in OS to get people to use their diaphragms. We still want them to fill their ribs with the lungs, from the bottom to the top. And, it shouldn’t be forceful, just gentle and natural.

Thanks so much. Makes sense about the breath. Have had a mild case of sciatica in the past but this case has been a doozy... Literally nothing has worked except massage. Finally back to rocking & loaded walking & crawling after 3 1/2 months. Yay! This 55-year-old mother of 6 is working on becoming bulletproof lol! Love all your bodcasts. Thx for your help!!

I'd probably activate the pelvic floor, too, or am I totally wrong?

IF you’re breathing well, you should be activating the pelvic floor.

Hey, Tim. Any problem if i play around wirh the form, specifically, move the upper body toward middle of the legs or towards the back leg?? What you have done in the windmill is move your upper body near the front leg.
