Hey Will! I would like to thank you for the hard work of making these tutorials! Your help is much appreciated, I am finally getting to understand the Material Graph properly. And that is on you! I believe the length is necessary for you to explain all the relevant steps, so do not worry much about that. Thanks again, I always look forward for the MGM (or any video from your channel in reality) to pop in my notifications!

WOW nice tutorial, I normally don't use this much detail in my boxes, but surely the suggestions presented here make rendering much more realistic. Thank you!

So helpful thank you also really appreciate the displacement maps provided. My client only did lifestyle final photography of multiple shippers and regular slotted cartons I designed that have a second life and now I can develop more realistic renderings to show the designs clearly and how they work to submit for awards and to use in my portfolio. Looking forward to week 4 of RW Keyshot month!

Thanks for the awesome comment! Yeah, I know my KZbin channel has been a tad quiet lately as I've been over-committed with projects. Hoping to deliver something good for the collaboration with Render Weekly.

Hi Will great tutorial as always, you're getting closer to full feature-length youtube tutorials ;) longer the better I say! Im not sure if I will need to know how to make a cardboard material, but there are so many nuggets of knowledge in this one, even just understanding your thought process and workflow in creating/replicating a material and of course I love the levels of details throughout and your explanations are ace.

Hi David, Thanks for the comment! I'm glad to bring some value even if the exact example isn't something you'll have to render. I find that learning techniques can come from all sorts of different explorations.

Thank you for this, Will. Any tips on how to make it look worn & torn?
@WillGibbons2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Not really. You could make it look dirty and such, but crumpled or wrinkled or damaged, not so much. That would really require deforming the mesh and having a texture to match. Afraid that's beyond KeyShot's capabilities.

Cool! Had to learn how to UV unwrap... Did you draw the displacement textures in Photoshop or elsewhere by yourself? It's difficult to find textures for edges, for example, laser cuts, metal tumbling and so on.
@WillGibbons5 жыл бұрын
I started with a photo for the displacement texture, then cleaned it up and adjusted it a bit in Photoshop to optimize it a bit. I hear you. Not the most ideal workflow. There are other software that helps with this like substance, pixplant or crazybump.

This is very informative tutorial and definitely help me to level up my skill , but i want to know one thing about edges in model with pink and blue colour , means what does it means and how can i define in my model .!

I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to answer this.

Does this still work I’m the new versions on blender?
@WillGibbons Жыл бұрын
I would imagine so. This model was created in blender, but rendered in KeyShot. I made it in Blender because I had to UV unwrap the model. Technically, UV unwrapping can be done in KeyShot, but the tools can be a little bit hard to use. So, in theory, you could/should be able to make this work on a CAD model as long as you UV unwrap it in KeyShot first.
@Karo4734 жыл бұрын
the detail is incredible and your way of teaching/talkin is really informative. Still i just think i am to dumb to understand how this works. I've downloaded your box and tried to place the Edge material on one of my models. The direction is always the wrong way =(. I have a Model, it's like a really big CD, and wanted to add the edge but the waves wond go around. Tried it also on a simple box: same thing. the pattern always goes the wrong direktion (modelling with Creo 2.0 and exporting Stp AP214 files)
@WillGibbons4 жыл бұрын
You're not too dumb! Stick with it. The only issue is that you're missing one crucial step. Your model hasn't been prepped with proper UVs. You can't do this in Creo. This model was made in Blender and I did so specifically so I could edit the UVs. If you're using KeyShot 9.1, you should be able to get around this using KeyShot's UV unwrap tool, which was released yesterday. I'm uploading a new video on how to do it right now. Stay tuned!
@Karo4734 жыл бұрын
@@WillGibbons thank you. i will watch the new video within the next few days. I've also tried the edge again and managed to get it "right". it's not 100% correct, because the waves are not how they really are. They go to the center like cutting a cake (hope this makes sense) but the waves show up and they do look not wrong if you don't look to close. i've used your normal cardboard material and then added the displacement afterwards in the Material Diagram and played around with the different options.
@WillGibbons4 жыл бұрын
@@Karo473 To your point, there's a good chance my textures and UV prep is probably not perfect for close-up shots.
