Thank you for the excellent video and audio that explained clearly how I can replace the spark plugs in my 2018 Chevrolet Equinox with the optional 2.0L engine. I didn't know that they needed to be replaced after 60,000 miles (I confirmed that mileage by looking at the owners manual), so thank you for giving us the mileage. I also appreciate that you gave us the torque spec.

Very thorough. Good job. I've heard other places that GM recommends to not use anti-seize compound on the spark plugs. Just fyi.

Thank you🙂..yea it has to do with how it affects the torque value and how it may tighten down further into the head...but if u dont use it, it can also cause spark plug to stick to threads and in turn damage threads

My Cadillac just hit 90k and was having misfires, trouble accelerating and the dealership wasted 4 times of coming in and paying diagnostic fees for nothing saying there wasn’t an issue, after my own research I thought maybe it was the spark plugs, led me to your video and did my own replacement, thank you!

Were you getting a check engine light with your misfire ? I have misfire happen on my #1 cylinder, but get no check engine light. I have 72k miles on mine. Going to change the plugs this weekend.

@@prototypekev1347 are u getting a misfire the whole time or randomly? Usually the check engine light comes on if its a constant misfire through 3 drive cycles

@@backyardchevy328 Its weird. It shows on my scanner only on cylinder 1. If you stand outside the car while it’s running you can definitely hear it in the exhaust tone. It is also most noticeable when it is in drive and you are at a stop. Sometimes I feel it stumbling a little bit on a light acceleration.

@@prototypekev1347 yea that does sound like a random misfire..thats probably why the lights not on..cause computer notices that it happens and it stops..hopefully just ends up being the spark plug needing replacement or maybe coil starting to go bad.

Thank you for this video, the check engine light on my 2018 ATS 2.0 came on the other day and went away the next day. It’s been burning a lot more gas and it’s almost at 60K miles so I’m guessing it’s time to change the spark plugs.

@@backyardchevy328 I believe it was the catalytic converter, I took it to a Cadillac dealership and the guy said sometimes he’s seen it in rare cases the converter need replacement by 50k miles

@@whips8 well the first thing would be a dirty or clogged fuel filter..after that id check for a dirty maf sensor since it could be misreading airflow and injects more fuel cause its thinking its not getting much air..or what i fixed recently on a cadillac ats was the pcv hoses they were making the car run rich cause of it causing a vacuum leak..but yea possibly plugs but if its running rich youll notice it on the plugs theyll be fouled up

I remember doing this and the 3rd from front ignition coil boot wouldn't budge and was stuck in the cylinder. I had to tear it to get it out... just my luck. I heard blowing air into the cylinder can help but didn't have any tools to do so.

Pre-set gap: 0.032 is good or you definitely need to get 0.035. I was looking at some spark plugs for my car. I was looking at ngk ruthenium hx high ignitability there pre gap set for 0.032

You dont have to, since ur not touching any battery cable...only concern would be if someone cranks the car while doing em ..but if it makes you feel safer to do em with battery disconnected..then i would

Good video. Just FYI, your coolant overflow tank (the smaller tank on the top) should be filled all the way up to the bottom of the fill neck.

I did everything you did in the video. Step by step. Once I finished, my car ran normal for about 10 minutes and then the idle became rough, my traction control & stabilitrak keeps turning off, and my engine light is on because of misfire. Also engine is shaking really hard and has smoke coming out when I push the gas. Do you have any idea what’s causing all of this?

Well the traction and stabilitrak is on because of check engine light..the shaking and smoking most likely from misfire too..so lets start with the what spark plugs did u use? Did u verify that theyre the right ones for the car? If they are..did u check the spark plug gap on all of em? Sometimes they do come badly gapped or with closed gaps

Yes they work on em, its just a hotter plug, so cadillac revised their plug to a colder plug which the 41-125 is..its used to prevent any possible detonation under heavy load driving

Thanks for all the great ATS videos! Question, do you know the cylinder order? I assumed it was closest to the bumper was 1 then cylinder 4 was closest to the cock pit. Any idea if that’s correct?

@@backyardchevy328 thanks for replying so quickly! So I’m trying to troubleshoot a P0352 code. I swapped the coil packs in cylinders 2 and 3. Cleared the code and it came back up. I’m trying to think of what the next steps would be. Any ideas? I’m going to check the wiring to make sure that’s all in order but I’m pretty sure it looked fine last time I was under the hood.

@@zafett good start...did u also swap the spark plugs? If its got a bad spark plug it could trigger that code...yea check the wiring to that ignition coil look for any frayed wires or places that wiring contacts anything hot or even if some rodent may have got to it..other than that the signal would be coming from the ecu

@@backyardchevy328 I think I’m going to replace the plugs this weekend. We bought the car with 50k miles and it has ~74k miles now. We’re not sure when the plugs were last changed but they’re probably due for a change.

Since the coil boot provides a good seal up top u dont really need it, but it can be used, just add a lil to the inside of the rubber boot so it prevents it from sticking to the spark plug

I was debating between buying an ATS coupe or a similar year Mercedes C350. This has made my decision. To change the plugs in the Mercedes is a six hour job of removing the entire intake or pay the dealer $1200 to do it. F#@! that!

Well so far our ats has been great..knock on wood .everything we've had to do was preventative maintenance or regular maintenance..my friends ats as well only has had an issue with a pcv tubing..both are the 2.0t engine

Have you done any mods on yours? I've seen postings from people who've had them tuned or changed the exhaust. Any tips?

Where are the rpm's do they move up towards the red and the truck doesnt go faster or is it like jerking or engine sputtering type of feeling struggling to go up to that speed but rpms still around 3k-4k?

The Rpms stay around 3-4 and won't go any farther I would have to let go of the pedal and wait till its around 40 mph

Its would also jerk around 35 - 40 just to reach 40 mph but as soon as it reaches 50 it will be sputtering
