I have a 2020 ZR2 Bison diesel and found your video to be really helpful. One thing, it appears that for 2020 (and maybe later) you know longer have to disconnect the dampener as it isn't there! made the job really easy. Now the hardest part is removing the hinge pins. I just pushed on them with my fingers and once there was a neck on the other side I used a key as a lever and the pin came right out. Dealer take my money! Its been almost a year since I bought the truck so I asked them to replace the air filter while they were doing the oil change. The ignored that opportunity to rip me off and claimed to have checked it and it was good to go. When I removed it today it had a line of dust in it. Anyway, I bought a charcoal filter from Amazon, Spearhead Premium Breathe Easy Cabin Filter, Up to 25% Longer Life w/Activated Carbon (BE-966). Thanks again!

A tip for removing those pins, mine didn't budge and didn't wanna break them, I used a bushing with a hole that barely fit over the head of the pin, shoved it on and it compresses the pin heads making it way easier. Maybe overkill, but mine were not budging, I use the bushing trick on all of those push in plastic panel and body part pins that always break when removing.

It’s ok. It’s more a reference for when you are checking the filter and reinstalling the same one. But if you flip it over while it’s been used it will blow all the dust on the filter into the hvac system. But if you swapped in a new filter it will start to gather dust on the one side and be ok. Great video and very helpful. I'm trying to get a clear picture of how to disconnect the infotainment/Intellilink connection and re-seat it back in its port. I've seen a couple other videos that show the removal of a glove box to get to this connection (blue cord and plug). Unfortunately, they aren't using a GMC Canyon so I'm not sure the location of this connection exists in the same place as their examples (Silverado, Tahoe, etc.). When I remove the glove box on a 2017 Canyon, do you know if I will have immediate access to this connection? The reason I ask is because you're familiar with the removal of the glove box so I thought you might know.
@fondupot3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I can’t say that I remember what’s behind the glove box. But I know you can also pop the bezel off the infotainment and then remove the screws that hold in the screen. Then you can remove the screen. And get access the backside of it.

Question when I changed mine the arrow was pointing up. Was the previous installed incorrect or what?
@fondupot3 жыл бұрын
Yes. It was installed backwards. You can tell the airflow of the system by looking at the dirty side of the filter. In this case the dirty side of the filter is on top. That means the air is flowing downwards. So you want the arrows to point down.

In complete 100% honesty, it shouldn't really matter. But, if you open up the filter box after 1 year, and remove the filter, and decide to keep using the same filter, its very important to put it back in the same way. Otherwise, whatever debris was accumulated on the one side, will now get blown into the system. Hopefully you just installed a new filter and didn't flip the existing filter around. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for posting this. I changed mine today in my 2016 Canyon. Would you believe the original factory filter was upside down? Air flow arrow was pointing up. (It was a Mann brand filter with GM part #23135671. Tell me that's not annoying.
@fondupot7 жыл бұрын
Damn, that's weird. But I suppose if it was installed like that from the factory it would still theoretically work just fine. The reason why air filters have a flow arrow, is so that if you remove it to check how dirty it is, you put it back in the same way. Otherwise if you put a filter in backwards, that has been used for a while, all that dirt trapped in the filter will now be on the clean side, and blow right into the hvac system. Glad the video got you straightened out!
@allanlamberti7 жыл бұрын
fondupot I'm not sure the issue is settled. Fram has a video posted which says the arrow should be up for a 2016 Canyon. But the instructions that come with the filter say the arrow should go down. A Colorado/Canyon discussion site has a thread on this and they say down. So I went back to my truck to assess this. There is no clue embossed on any of the housing to tell you which way the air flows. But there is a fan below the filter. That might be a clue that the fan blows air up through the filter. What do you think?

My filter was pointing down when I opened it up. You can also look and see which side is dirtier on the filter. That will give you a clue of the where the air flows from...

Allan Lamberti if you turn the fan on with the air filter cover off you will see the fan draws air downwards. For this reason I think it makes more sense that the arrow should point down.

Mine was pointing down, however the air blows down, so that is the proper direction.

How about a 2004 Chevy Colorado?
@fondupot7 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, unfortunately, the 2004 Colorado does not have a cabin air filter. Thanks for watching. Please Like, Subscribe and Share!

Lmao watching this in the dealership after they asked me. They recommend doing this once a YEAR?? That's a bit overkill isn't it? Anyways, thanks a ton!
@fondupot5 жыл бұрын
I think once a year is just fine. It’s a cheap filter if you do it yourself it’s and easy maintenance item.
@datawrangler815 жыл бұрын
Depends on where you live and drive. I always think once a year is plenty, but whenever I get in there it's always filthy. Lots of pollen and dust, lots of dirt roads and dusty work sites.

Dealer price $99. Part costs $29 shipped. And takes 3 minutes to install.
