@Scrallex 2 stroke motocross bikes have wet clutches, this is the proper way to use the clutch on a small capacity 2stroke so that it stays in the peak power range, it doesnt burn out like a normal dry clutch does

That's what I said. You have to keep the RPM's up on a 2 stroke. So professionals do that by feathering the clutch so the engine is always in the powerband. I have a 1994 yz 125, a 1983 yz 490, a cr 250, and a yz450f. I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 7.

@GrindcoreDaniel yes - incredible,shame about the 2nd race . He should have been on the podium.

not to start shit but your comment got me...for 1. 2strokes have no engine brakes due to no valves except the power valve.. 2) 2 strokes are ment to run on top end..especially 125s they need to be run hard in order to stay clean and not fatten up. 3 find one fast guy on a 2 stoke who dont use a clutch..95% of the time you will be on the clutch due to low bottom end you need to keep the rpms up in order to make power on a premix bike.
@asambi6913 жыл бұрын
Its to try keep the revs as high as possiable cos these kinda bike make no low torque what so ever. So by slipping the clutch he can let the bike rev out a little bit and keep it 'on the pipe' as it were.

can someone explain his clutch/throttle technique in the corners to stay in the power band?
@jacobingot99975 жыл бұрын
Casey Sumner so when you engage the clutch, feathering it basically, while letting off a little bit but pulling in the clutch to basically engage neutral. It’s hard to explain but when he taps it he’s just keeping the rpms high as hell
@thomasvaughan68464 жыл бұрын
It's not hard to explain at all. All he is doing is applying clutch to disengage the crank from the output shaft. Essentially allowing the bike the rev freely without drag from the wheels/gearbox ect to keep the bike in the power band without effecting cornering speed due to the clutch being applied. This keeps the revs in the "powerband" to allow maximum exit speed as there isn't that lag there that there would be if you were winding the power up from the bottom of the rev range. Essentially you can do this many different ways but the best technique is to apply just enough clutch to completely disengage drive and chop the throttle to keep them revs up and then on corner exiting release clutch and apply throttle accordingly to kep traction aswell as put as much power to ground as possible

@ErMermer I've never ridden a dirt bike before but I have driven road bikes and I drive a manual car - is that sort of clutch engagement/disengagement regular for these guys? It's almost like kicking the clutch to engage a powerslide in a car.

No I meant if if you are redlining your bike while coming through a turn without feathering the clutch it probably means your in too low of a gear.
@ChristopherGuilday12 жыл бұрын
Not really, if you're keeping your revs up on a 2 stroke constantly it either means your coming into the turn too fast, or your a gear too low. You want to be in a gear higher then required for the turn so you can come out of it fast. So to stop it from bogging they feather the clutch.

so when you ae in the corners, are you shifting when you favour the clutch? or are you just trying to get it into the power band?

@iHeartKawasaki 2 stroke motors never once have i ever had to time cams,adjust valves etc you need a clutch unless you have an auto clutch. please tell me where to find valves on a 2stroke because ive never found them.a175 yamaha hmmm must be one off. expkain what a jay brake is? and an e brake..emergency brake really? do you even know what 2 stroke means? please inform me mr pro mx rider

I wonder how quick he goes through clutch discs
@Scrallex12 жыл бұрын
And you're wrong. You dont ride a 125 in the lower RPMs because the lack of displacement results in them having little bottom end power. You ride them on high RPMs because that's where the powerband kicks in.

@robertfoeli1 Wow, easy there 2 stroke instructor. I know what clutch all race bikes have, and I also race a 125 2 stroke (you can see in my videos). And, a 125, with its lack of bottom, is required to be riddin at high RPMs, so if you're running it at the top, you shouldn't need to feather the clutch in every corner and straight just to keep the bike pulling.
@sunkan88813 жыл бұрын
You are definitely driving a 4 stroke, to lazy for touching the clutch :)

@Scrallex13 жыл бұрын
@robertfoeli1 If you have to feather the clutch like that, then you are a shitty rider. If you have it revved up high like a 125 should be ran, you shouldn't have to feather the clutch all the damn time. And if you think that I am a shitty rider just because I know how to ride a 125 without using the clutch to bring up RPMs all the time, keep in mind that I can school you any day of the week on my 125.
