Beaver's Hobby , Yours videos are awesome & extremely detailed. Perfect for newbies like me. I want to increase the acceleration. As I drive it indoor, I don’t need much speed. Which gear ratio should I use for a better acceleration? (Using the gears that comes with it) Doesn’t increasing the gear ratio stress out the motor? What’s the maximum safe upper limit of this setup. Thanks a lot.
@BeaversHobby4 жыл бұрын
To get acceleration you can use 15T on the motor and 29T on the pinion without buying anything new (motor spins 1.93 turn for the shaft to spin 1 turn). Higher ratio (motor has to spin more for the wheels to turn hence slower speed) is actually safer than lower gear ratio because the engine/motor doesn't have to work hard to get the car running. There's also another way to call this which is low-gear and hi-gear which can be confusing (at least to me) because low gear means hi ratio where the car is slow (motor has to spin more for the wheels to turn hence slower speed). And hi gear means lower motor to wheel ratio so the speed is higher but with less acceleration. In this car the safest you can do is around 19T motor and 27T spur which is low ratio/hi-gear (motor spins 1.42 turn for the shaft to spin 1 turn). Still, this ratio is not good to go full throttle for too long.

How do you attach the pinion to the motor? My motor overheated on my stock k989 and started melting the plastic housing above it. It melted the 17t pinion attached to it as well. I'm trying to put on a 15t pinion but the hole is way too small for the engine rod to go through. I can't even hammer it on. How did you slide one on so easily?
@BeaversHobby4 жыл бұрын
It's tight fit on the motor. Optional gears that come with the car sometimes have too small hole so you'll have to use hand drill to widen it. Use 1.5mm drill bit and move around. If that doesn't work you can get some small plastic gears for small robots 0.5 mod.

Hello, where can I find the pinion gears you are using? I saw the link in the description but it looks like they aren‘t the right ones. Can you help me?
@BeaversHobby4 жыл бұрын
The one in the link is a whole bag with many types, there are a few in that you'll be able to use. Unfortunately they usually come like that. You can also search for 0.5 mod pinion with 2mm bore (it's the gear for motor pinion) but this mostly end up being more expensive than buying a whole bag though. You can also search for "plastic gear small robot".
@mattdamaster27974 жыл бұрын
which one of these would be the most ideal for drifting?
@BeaversHobby4 жыл бұрын
It depends on many things, how much torque you need, what's surface you are driving on, etc. Basically you would want the highest gear ratio possible. With standard parts that come with the car you can use 15T on the motor and standard 29T spur gear.

@BeaversHobby4 жыл бұрын
Check the tyres contact first to see if you got all 4 tyres on the ground. Also due to the suspension geometry it can be difficult to go straight once the car looses the grip so another way to keep it pointing in straight line is to mod the front steering linkages on both lower and upper bars so you can create toe out. Here are the photos. You don't have to do this much because it'll eat up the tyres. I make this to show what a toe out means. imgur.com/EpSmkxk Adjustable linkage. imgur.com/5cGBBcx Use rods with ball ends for 3.5mm ball head.

Has anyone else noticed that the newer version of this car is using a metal pinion without adjustment in the stock mount? If I use a gear puller to remove the pinion so I can modify the mount as described here, can I re-use the metal pinion or am I better off tracking down the plastic pinions?

@BeaversHobby4 жыл бұрын
I use 15T on the rear pinion giving it 1.875 CS ratio. I find it the best ratio to for the steering angle it has without doing monoshock mod to get more angle. CS will make the car slower because you won't be able to control it properly if you go fast. Once you increase rear pinion, you'll have to reduce motor pinion to keep the torque up and make it controllable. If you want to go fast I suggest sticking with 50:50. CS is for holding opposite lock.

@@BeaversHobby Hello, thanks! Maybe this is a stupid question for the experts, but what is the best method to understand how far to screw the wheel bolts in order not to lock them or not to leave them too loose? I rotate one wheel in one direction and look to see if the other rotates simultaneously in the opposite direction and I stop to screw to the limit to make it rotate like this ... is that correct?
@BeaversHobby4 жыл бұрын
@@CiroZeno Yes, checking if it can turn the other wheel in opposite direction is also an option but it won't work if the drivetrain is sticky, you'll be able to turn it anyway in that case. There are many ways to check if a wheel is too tight. Mine is tighten it fully first and try to nudge the wheel lightly and feel if it can turn without resistance. There will be a small area that allows a wheel to move before it turns the diff so I use that area to test if the wheel isn't too tight.
@CiroZeno4 жыл бұрын
@@BeaversHobby Now my differentials are very smooth so yes, my method could be fine even if in fact it is not 100% reliable because I could leave the wheel slightly unscrewed. Ultimately, by any method, the wheel must have a little back and forth play without the differential cup spinning ... right? Is that the area you are referring to? Thanks again!!!
@BeaversHobby4 жыл бұрын
@@CiroZeno Yes, that's the area I was talking about. There's a small gap between the diff and the pin so I use that. Ultimately it all comes down to what works for you.
