Wow this is such a simple set up tip, thanks for explaining this every coach I’ve seen has said to strengthen my right hand grip to fix similar error but never picked up rotation position of forearm, cheers

Brilliant video. Helps explain how to "skip a stone" as well as getting club shaft in front of of you on the downswing for improved contact on a shallower plane. Must watch. Love the analogy of being about to throw a dart with your right hand on how to set up properly. That analogy is a new one for me and a good one if only for ease of remembrance.. Get ready to throw that dart!

The right shoulder, upper arm, and elbow externally rotated at address is definitely ideal, and the position we see the majority of tour pros in. I however don't think Woods flared open clubface is one to advocate, and is bundled with compensations and is inconsistent. If you look at Rory Mcilroy, or Adam Scott when they are swinging well they have the elbow externally rotated at address, but still swing into a position where the clubface matches their spine angle and faces the ball when the hands reach hip high back, and through much if the backswing.

Excellent explanation. I struggled with an ott swing in my youth and, despite years of experiment as a pro, could not correct it. Only now, aged 72, with the aid of modern cameras and studying videos of all the greats, have I realised that my wrists and elbows would not flex enough to get into a good position at the top and P5 without strain. My R elbow would fly and the R wrist would push the club steep. I no longer teach, is this common amongst those who don't start playing very young? My answer has been to open the face quickly on the bs, short swing with a loose R grip so the palm comes away from the grip. I can now play a high draw for the first time in 55 years.

Is this only for golfers hooking the ball? Most videos show the club face in line with the spine angle at 45 degree position or am i misinterpreting this and at 90 degree it should be straight up?

Yeah it’s confusing . Just about every instruction recommends a face square to the arc .

I have a very steep swing resulting in fat, heavy divots and inconsistent shots. I've never paid close attention to my elbow at setup, but will put this into practice. This should shallow my downswing!
