Yep fully agree with the 50% rule. I was ridiculously lucky and I know this is gonna sound insane but it's thanks to catching COVID that I caught mine super early and saved all my hair down to the last follicle. Basically, I got telogen effluvium in the months after catching COVID and getting a fever of 40+ Celsius. It was a massive shock to my system and my hair suffered. I was losing huge clumps of hair after every shower, it was terrifying. I went to a trichologist to figure out what was happening, she diagnosed me with telogen effluvium and also said I had really early signs of miniaturization on my vertex. It was so early stages that it was only visible under the microscope and you couldn't tell by looking even under direct sunlight. I've been on finastaride since that day and I've basically reversed all the early miniaturization and I've got the condition under control. I don't expect to be losing my hair anytime soon but I still go for check ups occasionally.

WOW! That's a fantastic story (not the catching COVID and getting Telogen Effluvium part, but the fact you caught your genetic balding)! That was definitely a blessing in disguise.
@Ignozi10 ай бұрын
Yea, I was depressed immediately after the diagnosis because I didn't expect it at all but in hindsight it prevented me from losing any ground. Granted, my hair loss is not aggressive or very severe but still, an early diagnosis is still very good.@@TravWhiteStyle

No I don't think so. Natural supplements don't even come close to being as effective as finasteride as DHT blockers. I would never risk my hair by depending on supplements.@@syedshadman07

Yea it's almost scripted that's how unlikely it was to catch it this early. Prevention is the closest thing to a hair loss cure at the moment. Hopefully that changes in the future.@@TravWhiteStyle

This advice is solid. I wish I was more cognizant of this when I was younger. I started balding at 17, and have been able to maintain my Norwood 2 for the 10 years since, but by then it already too late to salvage my temples without a transplant. It still annoys me how early it occurred. If you can get ahead of your hair loss, it is better.

That is a solid advice, it helped me to get rid of that stress of uncertainty, that was bothering me for months. I appointed a visit with a trychologist just now. Thanks man.

In the last 2 years I have noticed a huge difficulty in growing my hair to the point where right now the sides are way longer than the top... Haven't really noticed huge thinning and for some reason I noticed that the short hairs that shed from my front is thicker in diameter than the longer hairs I shed. Propably will check another dermatologist, since the last one I checked with prescribed treatment for androgenic alopecia. Just wanted to share, because I am annoyed that it doesn't look like normal MPB, yet I can't find what my problem is. I wish good luck and a great day to anyone who reads!

There is a way to ween yourself off of the drugs. If you cut it off cold turkey the hair follicles will still be dependent on the medication, but if you slowly decrease the dosage over time and ensure you’re taking vitamins, massaging your scalp to increase blood flow, the hair follicles should become less dependent on the meds. Don’t know for sure but have heard this by a couple of sources!

Hey trav, I have a windows peak, I’m still in my teen years, but the sides of my head have thin hairs mixed with baby hairs(like Ryan Reynolds or David Beckham but with baby hair+thin hair in that area), if I pull it back it looks like if their is no hair due to its thinness and the hairs over it are kinda covering it, I am not saying that their is no hair on the sides of the windows peak but just really thin and spread out on that area , am I just being paranoid or should I just leave it, (by the way, I have short hair and apply shampoo everyday) Thanks🤝🏻

In my opinion, combination oral minoxidil and finasteride has become affordable enough that if you're worried about hair loss at all, and there is a history of hair loss in your family, there is no reason to not use it. It's the most convenient solution to the problem. As explained in the video, before 50% miniturisation, the symptoms are difficult to see, and after 50% minturisation, it is too late to revert to your 16 year old hairline. Imagine a world where every man from the moment they turned 16 started on combination oral minoxidil and finasteride, nobody would be feeling the intense stress and embarassment of hair loss. The world has become more vain, and people are terribly judgemental of those whose hair is thinning. Of course, different men experience side effects to different degrees, and that would be the only limiting factor to my eyes. There is no harm in starting on oral medication, discovering that the side effects are too intense, and then promptly ending treatment. One day, hair loss will be a thing of the past...

I want to tell you a story about my grandfather that never went bald in his 74 years. Grew up in poverty during the great depression, had the worst childhood you could imagine. He also served his country during WW2 . Was married for 50 years and had seven kids, struggled with alcoholism throughout his life. Yet he was proud of holding onto his hair until he died but here's the thing, he had a hairline that would fall betwen II and III on the norwood scale, receded enough that he would've been recommended to go on finasteride or minoxidil in today's standards. With the life he lived, shouldn't he have been bald by 50? He didn't have a very youthful looking hairline but still produced a thick head of hair without any meds that always grew back fast, he was absolutely fine with it.
@ExecutionMods10 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think its really up to personal preference to an extent. Recession can be normal for most people and stop (a "mature hairline"). But there's also a chance that it won't stop, so its really up to you if you want to roll the dice.
@TravWhiteStyle10 ай бұрын
Sometimes people recede to a mature hairline and never go fully bald. Very rarely do people grow old with their juvenile hairline. I made a video on how to tell the difference. It’s pretty old. Maybe I should make an updated one 🤔

@jimih826210 ай бұрын
I wouldn't be too concerned about it just yet. Sure, it's possible that you're losing your hair prematurely, but the more likely explanation is that it's just your "mature" hairline coming in. While technically hair loss, it's really just something that happens to most people once they reach their late teens and early twenties. You're just losing your "baby hairs" so to speak. Monitor it, and if it keeps getting worse then see a professional. But, you should likely be fine, and just because your hairline is receding slightly now doesn't mean it'll keep going. Many people reach their mature hairline and never recede further than that. I hope this gives you a little peace of mind!
