This is what people in the old day called a remnant blanket. They collected all the yarn remnants during the year and then when they had enough they would crochet or knit a blanket or a shawl or a scarf and so on

I knit and crochet. I always pull from the center because I dislike chasing my yarn around the room and yarn that doesn't move around is less of a "fun toy" for the doggo. Also, just started a temperature blanket as an anniversary gift for my husband, I'm 9 months behind and need to be done in 3 months! Wish me luck!

I learned to Knit when I was younger from my grandma, I started to pick that back up. And now after watching this video I’ve been starting to learn how to Crochet now. To the I feel like I’ve got the single stitch, to the point I’ve planned out a Temp Blanket myself. And prepared to start it soon.
@jojunker7002 жыл бұрын
Because of you, I started learning to crochet. My fist project, of course was inspired by you. I'm making a 2013 Temp Blanket for my daughter using the garter/linen stich. I started with 200 chains but because the garter stich skips, I'm really only stitching 100. The first two months my ends didn't line up, but I figured it out and now that I'm into April, the ends are looking fantastic. I also let my daughter pick out the 12 colors and did a 5 degree's (Celsius) for color change. I also wanted to see more of the change in colors, so for Spring and Fall I'm using the average, for Summer I'm using the high and winter(Canada) I'm using the lowest temp. This has been a great learning and fun project. I recommend it for a beginner and to not be afraid.

😂I agree, we can forge ahead with what skills we have. Don’t give up, learn from our mistakes. I made the same neophyte move with my 1st ever crochet blanket, only I was doing 2 rows per day for high and low! I calculated it was going to measure 10 feet by 19 feet if I kept going. Day 5 I ripped it out and started a new pattern. After 3 attempt sof this new wave design, with one 4“ x 1” wave for the each high & low per day I am happy with a good plan I am sure I can keep up with! I am doing two 35”x52” panels 6 months each side by side making 70” x 52” blanket! The hardest part is now waiting for the day temps to add up! I plan to add some silver threads on top of rain days as our 2023 weather is a doozie here in California!

I knitted before I ever started crocheting so I always do my slip knot as if I started the first row knitting and I always hold my yarn as if I was knitting, too. I do this because it's the most comfortable for me. If the way you hold your yarn is comfortable for you, then it is the right way for you! 🙃

I am starting a temperature blanket to give a child for their first birthday. This means I am going for birthday to birthday instead of starting Jan 1st. I am using yarn I bought for a project that I never ended up starting. (It was going to be a gift for a friend who ended up moving away and cutting all ties). I think I will be using multiple different styles of yarn as long as they fit the color range for that temperature. I am going to be using one strand for the high and another for the low in each row. This is going to be a twin size blanket (hopefully). I have made blankets before, but this will be my first temperature blanket. I am charting the temperatures, but I haven't dug through my massive collection of yarn to finalize colors yet. I want this to be like a remnant style, but with more structure.

I'm going to start a temperature blanket for my significant other's birth year and birth city as soon as my yarn is delivered from joann's! Thought about doing one for 2023 and my hometown, but there's so little temperature variation I didn't think it would be as fun. I'm only doing 7 colors, along with white for stripes between months, and maybe a border. I'm also thinking about getting something like metallic embroidery thread to make their birth date stand out. So excited to get started, thank you for inspiring me!! 🥰💙

If the average temp in your area only varies by 21°, you could do the scale in 3° increments rather than 10° increments like some of us will use (Fahrenheit, Celsius scale maybe only use 1 or 2° increments?) so that you get a bit of variation throughout the year.

@KourtneyFangirl2 жыл бұрын
And I prefer to pull from the outside. I hate the knot too. I do a wide gauge loom usually like “loom a hat” you tuber. So I usually need 2 strands of medium-weight yarn if I'm doing an e-wrap for the loom. Or I use one strand if I do a u wrap stitch. That being said it gets tangled if I use the outside and the middle at the same time. So I use 2 skeins.

I did 269 chains for it to hang off my queen bed by about six inches on each side. Looking back I think I made it too big because each row takes me almost 30 minutes. I recommend making a swatch to measure how big your blanket will be based on your yarn and your tension you crochet with. I hope this helps!
