I prayed that everyone who’s been having sleepless night due to pain that it’ll get better. I also went through something similar with severe shoulder pain that constantly kept me up at nights. I went chiropractors, physical therapy, acupuncture and for years nothing was helping me but the pain just get worse and worse as month and month goes by. I’m doing better now. My doctor recommended I’d see a physical medicine and surprisingly it help me in way I can’t even imagine. Turn out it was just that my vitamin D was very low. It got low as years goes by but I didn’t realized it. Took a blood work and it was at 10 when it should by at least 30. Starting taking vitamin D supplements and as month goes by, I can finally enjoy my daily activities, can also have peaceful sleep and I pray that everyone who goes through things like these get better.

Don’t rotate your top shoulder internally forward was gold information. That’s exactly what was causing my shoulder pain for months and I didn’t even know it. Neutral position is key. Thank you guys!

I watched this only because it popped up on my feed. Hadn’t had shoulder problems for years. Sure enough, a week or two later my left shoulder, from side hairline down to shoulder blade and upper arm, froze up in pain. At night went to bed, remembered the “channel” trick with two pillows and should was fine in the morning. Thanks!

Suffered shoulder pain in both for months. Cut out carbs and sugar altogether. 2 weeks later pain all gone. It’s inflammation caused by sugar. Try it for yourself for a month and see if it works. You’ll lose some weight too as an added plus.

i used to be a side sleeper, but after working out at the gym for a number of years, side sleeping became painful on my shoulder. i then turned to back sleeping and got all the problems you described in your other video. Thankyou for this side sleeping advice.. i can now go back to sleeping in my side like i did the first 30 years of my life!

I'm glad I found this. My mattress is failing me but teaching me anatomy. My chiropractor helped explain how my serratus anterior is super angry and the referred pain isn't much fun! I hope this helps....new mattress arrives soon

This is so common in people as they age. MDs have no idea about these issues (I'm an MD). I just had a patient whose primary care physician thought the patient's new onset shoulder pain was due to the ventricular -peritoneal shunt that had been placed about a year ago. For those who may be unfamiliar, a VP shunt is a plastic tube that runs from the brain down under the skin that delivers elevated pressure fluid to the abdomen. I asked the patient to sleep on her back for 3 days-- pain went away. I then set her up with a graded exercise program and no more pain. They wanted us to replace the shunt. Amazing. The shoulder is very dependent on the muscle tone for integrity. As we age, if the muscles are not kept in good tone the shoulder becomes unstable and lax and sleeping on the side worsens both the shoulder that is down and the one that is up, the latter because of the lax shoulder is pulling on the tendons, capsule, etc. Bottom line, listen to these guys. You can show the video to your doc who will be appreciative. thx

Pillows are helpful! Had a frozen shoulder and it helped to lessen pain and sleep. I'm trying to train myself to sleep on my back and not on my sides, takes some time.

thats funnny....every technique you gave about sleeping with a bad shoulder I figured out on my own by trial and error..When you said to rest the arm on 2 pillows or roll back I thought "thats rxactly what I do"! lol...good stuff guys..

cdndragongirl - I am going through the same exact thing. My surgery for the first shoulder was one of the most painful things I have ever gone through, so now that my second shoulder is starting up with the same symptoms I am just freaked out. I still have quite a lot of pain in the first shoulder and now I can hardly sleep on either shoulder.

After watching another sleep position video by Bob and Brad I have changed how I sleep. I am a side sleeper. I used to sleep on. A gerd wedge pillow but kept sliding down. Now I use a compression sack from hug sleep. Inside my sack there are three pillows. One pillow to go between my ankles one pillow to go between my knees and the third pillow to support The shoulder I'm not sleeping on. I bought cube pillows because they were supposed to help support your head but they weren't dense enough and I found myself sinking into the down shoulder. So I use the cube pillows between my knees and as the arm support. I've had a really hard time finding pillows that are thick enough to wedge under my shoulder and head.

I tried putting a pillow under my rib cage and one behind me to help me roll back a bit. It felt good to begin with but I awoke with the same pain. I also have tried having a pillow to support my shoulder while on my back. I find stomach sleeping with my arms down at my sides to be most comfortable. When my shoulders really hurt, my arms automatically want to go above my head.

You guys are great. I have watched your videos on neck pain. I have radiculopathy and boy does it cause me horrible pain. I'm a side sleeper and I hope these techniques work for me. I try to sleep on my back but It's terribly uncomfortable even with my legs elevated. I am like the princess and the pea. I have an excellent mattress that cost me $4000. It better last me awhile.

I just got some shoulder pain this morning in my right shoulder. The way I sleep is a bit different. What I do is sleep pretty much sitting at an angle with my back against the wall on my bed. I've got a pillow of course behind my back. That's mainly due to an injury I sustained a while back, that causes me to have cramps in my feet. I went to look up videos on how to deal with shoulder pain and this came up. So far I've taken Ibuprofen and I've got a pillow right now between my arm and body while I'm sitting on my computer chair. I don't cope with pain all that well so hopefully this helps for me.

I'm 53, 4 years out of shoulder reconstruction, full ROM, very little pain, a few clicks & pops when the shoulder is not warmed up. Other shoulder is jealous and threatening to be next on the surgical table. I've stumbled into all of the above mentioned methods, and they all work. I switched from 2-3x daily turmeric with black pepper to 2-3x daily curcumin phytosome by Thorne (500mg.) Starts relieving pain in 20 minutes, lasts 6 hours. I've reduced the inflammation so much that I only take it once a day now. I also developed a special pillow that I use in front of me for sleep (side sleeper.) It addresses the issue of where/how to support my upper shoulder. Working on further dev.

I've always slept on my shoulders and it's been hard, I wake up in pain because I still do it in my sleep. When I sleep on my good shoulder I still get pain because the other arm hangs down and doesn't stay in place when I just leave the sore arm across the side of my body. I will try the pillows on the side as you have suggested should help. I already lay a pillow on my my side for laying flat on my back, it elevates the arm just enough to ease the stress on the shoulder, I can also bend the arm over my chest, (often folding both arms over my chest) as the pillow provides a brace for the elbow. Thanks guys!

I sleep on my with the pillow under my arm and my shoulder pain is diminished. I got a small pillow from Amazon which works great for me as I am 5 feet tall.

Interesting. A few weeks ago I noticed my right shoulder was quite painful in the morning. (I don't know about after I fall asleep, but until I fall asleep I roll from side to side.) So I somehow figured that if I added a pillow at my waist maybe it would keep me from rolling as much. I am now considering using a 3rd pillow after watching this video, but will try the " alternate " 2 pillow arrangements first.

What about when both shoulders hurt??? My problem is both shoulders have lots of pain. I haven't seen any mention of what to do when that is the problem in all the videos I've seen so far. Had shoulder pain in bed for years on both sides, and 2 months ago injured both shoulders. Ultrasound said bursitis on both sides. Very slow recovery. So far improved from 5% use to 15% use of my arms. Had tennis elbow start a couple weeks ago from favoring shoulders.

I think sleeping on your back using 2 pillows (one for your right shoulder and one for your left shoulder) works the best

I had shoulder pain for months that was only noticable when i slept or tightened my shoulders. It took a few weeks of supporting my shoulder while sleeping to finally get a pain free sleep. I stopped doing it and the pain is back. Time to buy me some more pillows and start taking time at night and put all my pillows in the correct position to support my shoulder. I toss and turn all night looking for pain releif so my pillows have to get repositioned quite often.

I have been sleeping in my recliner for almost two years, due to left shoulder replacement surgery and both knees being replaced,too. My right shoulder is scheduled for total replacement in less than three weeks. I would love to be able to sleep in my bed again, but will be confined to the recliner after surgery for 6 weeks, minimum. My problem is not nay the shoulder pain, but extreme lower back pain also, when I sleep in bed! I normally am not a back sleeper, & always have been more of a combination side/stomach sleeper in the past. I had major back surgery in 2004, and most of the time, I have no back pain…except for when I try to sleep in a bed! I am wondering if sleeping with a back brace would alleviate this problem? Between the shoulders and the back, I have been pretty miserable when trying to sleep!

3:37 As someone who is often constipated (to this day, my family is stumped because I drink lots of water and eat lots of fiber), that 2-pillow-"canal" method somehow just unlocked something for my GI tract 🤣At first it was uncomfortable how I woke up with slight stomach pains, but I got used to it knowing that it's my body telling me it's time to go number 2. This saved my life in more ways than one.
