Stefi has access to the best equipment and still uses 15 dollar harbinger straps. You don’t need any crazy good equipment to get strong💪🏼

I love these pointers! The break down really helps and when I put it together for the lift it comes right off the floor. When I go to my heels it’s hard not to squat the bar up

Stefi hits on a super important point about programming. The day to day fluctuations can get into your head and kill your motivation. SO true that as you start lifting heavy one workout to the next will be different in how you feel depending on your level of fatigue, motivation, mood, emotional state, etc. Stefi that’s a good point you give and a good alternative that I experience as well. If you cant do heavy on a given day then do more reps at lower weights. THANK YOU!! And awesome videos girl!

Ive been thinking of trying to switch to sumo for such a long time but never really understood the hows and the whys on the technique and idea of it. Not until i saw this vid and got me thinking yes ofc THAT is how it is. Awesome info in this vid and like with other vids u break it down so so incredibly well. Great vid, more like this please! also some follow up on how to expand and improve the lifts by training as well as apropriate complementary excersises for both max as well as endurance. Great stuff....

Thank you Stefi!! I've been watching nothing but Stefi Cohen videos in the gym recently while warming up and today I suddenly find myself doing deadlifts properly for the first time in twenty five years or more. Haven't done them since high school. I did make a meagre attempt a few months ago when first hitting the gym again and managed a single set of empty bar deadlifts before almost passing out from horrendously poor cardio fitness. Today I'm proud to say I knocked off 5 sets (might have been 6 I lost count) of 7-10 reps (strict form) with 37.5 kgs of weight not including the bar!! And I could've done more sets easily but I wanted to be able to walk tomorrow lol. I even stomped all over a set of squats to absolute failure and maximum burn and then I walked out of the gym like nothing had happened! Unbelievable transformation in just a few months!! All the swimming and yoga and gym has really paid dividends. But special thanks to the beautiful and lovely Stefi Cohen, if not for you Stefi I would not have been hitting those deadlifts this morning, watching you has really got to me. And I loved it! I'd forgotten the joy of the simplicity and feel of simply moving that heavy weight with my own power. I feel absolutely fkn knackered now, my whole body is like jelly and I reckon I'm gonna sleep particularly soon and well. But I just feel really good about it!! Definitely am instantly hooked and will be dead-lifting (and squatting) at least twice a week from now on. Love you Stefi, keep up the great work in everything you do!

This is really a perfect video by you, Stefi. You do the lift, showing proper form for your body type. And you also teach basic mechanics all the way to nuance. It is just the right balance of your intelligence and your strength. And then you explain how your work out in relation to how you feel. Good questions from your friend, too. Really awesome video. Thank you! 😊😊

Re: tears at extremes, FWIW, my experience is that this increases with age. It's probably due to the glycosylation of collagen creating cross-links. That makes tendons and ligaments less resilient. My last serious tear was in my left shoulder. I was doing dips with 100 lbs, and some 20-something guys had started competing with me because they couldn't do it. After a month they were there and going really deep which I hadn't done in a long time, just to and a bit past 90 degrees. So, I thought I'd show what I had, went all the way down touched the rail, and ... pop-squish is the sound of that. I'm back to weighted dips, although I'm taking it real slow building past 60. And I'm leaving the deep stuff to them. I'm thinking about doing yoga again, but it's well, the gumby girls make it look so easy.

omg why did it cut off at 21:34. i think that bits the most important for me as im exactly the same. i just started training powerlifting with a coach and hes having a hard time figuring trying to write a program for me because my capacity and energy fluctuates like crazy day to day.

Stefi, could you do a video or something about how you program for yourself when your energy levels vary like they do? I feel the exact same especially with squats and deadlifts. Generally speaking, how do you build a program that accounts for progress on an elite level when your power output/energy levels vary so much? I really struggle with this myself so it would be great to hear more about it! Thanks in advance :)

Just keep in mind, anyone who has success with it has been doing it 5+ years before the find out how to be successful. You don't just instantly get 100k subscribers, and you don't just instantly get a 500 lb bench press. It takes many years of developing the skills and subskills necessary. I'm not saying don't do it. I'm just saying be prepared to fail over and over again if you try. In one of Stefi's older videos she said someone told her the job she wants doesn't exist and she would have to create it. And that's exactly what she did.

20:14 That's exactly me. Everyone recommends and swears by the 5-3-1 method of training but i despise it. I'll feel like I can put up a PR or even more on a "scheduled" light high rep day. And when it comes to my heavy days I don't feel like I have the strength to put up any more weight. Just like Stephi I'm always feeling different.

Bart can train for sumo for hams & hips but he is mechanically built for conventional with his long a** arms in respect to his torso. Asians generally have long torsos and short arms and short legs. Some can do both if they can keep the hips in and center of gravity low.
