it would be awesome if you did a video on all the attachments and different feet you can use on the 1541. i know things are a little more limited with the unison feeds, but I think a lot of people would find it really helpful.

I am not sure what you mean by spring feed. Do you mean take-up spring? My first impression when I hear your bottom stitch looks odd is that you need to tighten the upper tension. Here is my video on tension adjustment kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpLbYYWKeNaMis0

Odd, when I got mine there was no tension at all on the take up spring either. A little fiddling and got it working where the thread tugs at it just enough.

For winding the bobbin you can have the thread come-out of the back of the bobbin and have it pinched between the bobbin and the plastic guard on the body of the sewing machine. This is how I learned to do-it. Saves the hassle of having to hold the thread or use a clip at the front. Great video - I just ordered a long-spout oiler and will now take my machine apart - something I've never done as I didn't know what to look-for.

Gary, I have the same machine and sew leather primarily. As soon as I got it, I ordered & installed (rather my hubby did😉) a box style speed reducer pulley from Toledo Sewing Co. He had to buy different belts at the auto store and return a few to get the right ones though. We chose the box style because you don’t have to modify the table to install it. Works amazing now!! So MUCH control. Stitch by stitch if you want. Highly recommend!

Hello. Do you by any chance know the name of the little rod that you threaded first? It had two holes on it. We bought a juki dnu-1541s probably about 10 years ago brand new so we could expand our Auto body business and offer upholstery work. We never have got that thing threaded. We have had four or five different people with one lady being someone who did upholstery work in California for many years and none of them could get it threaded. After watching your video I can see that the little rod that you've threaded first is gone. Thank you so much for such an informative video! From time to time I would get online trying to find something like this and never could find it so finally I became tired of putting forth effort and never getting anywhere so I haven't done it for about 3 years until now. THANK YOU!!!

Can you elaborate on the take up spring? Specifically, what effect adjusting clockwise and counter clockwise will have as well as adjusting the pretension of the spring its self? I have this machine and the manual. While the manual does cover how to adjust the check spring, it doesn't offer much understanding on what effect it has on the stitch or what kind of problems might indicate that an adjustment of this component is needed. Thank you for your videos!

Alex, according to the manual the bobbin should spin counter clockwise when you load it into the casing. If I understand correctly that is opposite of your instruction. Do you know if it really matters which way you load it? Either way seems to be fine to me. I have this machine and love it. I really appreciate you sharing all your knowledge.

I think the way that I show it is correct although I have done it wrong before and still had good results. Funny, right? I have gone back and looked at the document included in the description of this video and it simply gives an indicative arrow "B" showing the correct direction and so I can confirm that at least this time what I show in the video is correct. Thank you for your very polite question and I hope this helps.

I am in the process of finding a 1541s. Do you have any sewing videos showing what the backside of the stick looks like? I purchased a Boss Tippman because I was doing everything by hand, and wanted to cut down on sewing time. However, the backside of the stick with the Boss never looks that good, especially on finished products. Would love to see what the Juki looks like in comparison.
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 2 жыл бұрын
Several things can effect this look. Needle condition, 'leather' needle shape or pattern, thread tension, foot pressure. Then there are just those folks who prefer the look and accuracy of hand stitch's. It that is you then no machine will satisfy if this does not describe you then this machine is tops.
@mw3designs
@mw3designs 2 жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderDyer no doubt it’s tough going from the hand stitched look to a machine. For a while I was using way too large of a needle and way too thick of a thread. Had much better results with the right needle/thread, but still couldn’t get over that backside stitch.

I really appreciate your videos. . . . I was curious (and I know virtually nothing about sewing and machines), about something you said in your Consew Video. You said that the manual lube might be a better option because you can operate at something other than full speed. This seems like it would need some "velocity" to pick up the lube, but I'm not sure if it qualifies as a "manual" lube or auto. I'd really appreciate some education on this. I'm hoping to building backpacks and some other outdoor gear (eventually). Thanks!
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 4 жыл бұрын
Well, maybe not better but perfectly adequate. I would not let the fact that a machine had automatic lubrication stop me from getting it. When machines run slower they need less lubrication and so it all has a way of working out. Loading a bobbin at full speed can get it all lubed up too.

I just inherited a Juki DNU1541. I understand that this is an industrial machine but if I went with a finer needle and finer thread could regular sewing be done on it? I mainly quilt and do other sewing projects using basic cotton fabrics. Thanks.
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 4 жыл бұрын
There are in fact "industrial" machines for clothing and quilting but not the 1541. It would be overkill for the finer fabrics and threads. My advice would be to either use the 1541 for more robust projects or sell it and use the proceeds to buy a machine that is better suited to your needs. The 1541 is a very desirable machine and so you will be able to get a handsome amount of money without waiting very long.

Not sure where you got your machine but usually that is a good place to start. If not then try hendersonsewing.com

Just set up my machine. It seems the machine is sitting low and the door on top is level with the table so I'm unable to slide it out to the side. Do you think this is going to cause any issues?

There are shims in the corners that your machine sit on. These are usually rubber or felt. They are available in different thicknesses and I have made my own too. Low tech and effective.

@@AlexanderDyer Thanks, we used the ones that came with it. We'll probably add more to it to make it a little higher if it seems to be an issue when changing the bobbin.

You dont need weight to start winding just put thread in the bobin holder cut and push it inside with bobin

Any suggestions Why would I have a big drag on my hand wheel , just to bring my the wheel forward and backwards is hard to do , I have servo motor , with the belt off there is a drag but worst with the belt on
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 4 жыл бұрын
The motor has a brake. A slight press of the pedal will release it. Not sure why your machine alone would drag, again check with your dealer.

MelodyAnn, that’s exactly what I thought when I first brought mine home! Didn’t realize just a slight depression on the pedal released it like Alex said. You’d think the sales people would tell you such things, lol.

Why is my Juki DNU-1541S not catching the bobbin thread. Top thread is fine but does not catch the bobbin thread at all. I got the bobbin thread to come up thru the needle plate but when I see it’s not catching the bobbin thread 😢

Change the needle and make sure it is threaded in the correct direction. A new needle can do wonders.

Can I load a bobbin while I am NOT sewing?

Yep yep. Unthread the needle and lift the foot first.

Shit, I pretty much figured the assembly out. Now to figure out where to line up those frigging dots to smoothly change bobbins. The dots on the wheel. Hint hint? …lol… I’m almost ready to sew. Christ, I had a choice, upgrade my machine or buy a new drum set. Well, the drums are gonna have to wait. The machine is more important now. The first thing I noticed was this head is way heavier than the typical Consew’s. I slid my hand under the foot assembly and you can’t do that with a Consew.
